[Bug 2066920] Re: Exceptions raised if UA_CONFIG_FILE is bad
Hello Nathan, thanks for raising this issue. tl;dr yes docs are wrong. The thing it should express is that this endpoint raises no *specific* exceptions, but at any time unexpected exceptions may happen and will be raised as UbuntuProError instances. There is ongoing work to update this on the docs as part of [1]. More specifically, there will be a message like [2] for all endpoints, which reflects the truth. [Bug 2066945] [NEW] Scrolling page with arrow keys no longer works
Public bug reported: I have updated Kubuntu to 24.04 yesterday and since then, I can't scroll webpages with Arrow up/down anymore. Normally, pressing those keys would just move the page up and down, now the arrow keys for some reason behave like the tab key, i.e. the jump from one link (or clickable element) to the next. I also have a strange mouse issue since the update: When I scroll down a page, occasionally it automatically scrolls back up. But I'm not 100% sure that is specific to Firefox, it may have happened in an electron app, too. [Bug 2066926] [NEW] docker3-python=5.0.3-1ubuntu1 is useless
Public bug reported: `docker3-python=5.0.3-1ubuntu1` is useless because of the issue described [here](https://github.com/docker/docker-py/issues/3113) and fixed in version [6.1.0](https://github.com/docker/docker- py/releases/tag/6.1.0) with PR [3116](https://github.com/docker/docker- py/pull/3116). as `Ubuntu 24.04` have following versions of `python3-requests`, `python3-urllib3` and `python3-docker` packages: ``` $ apt list --installed | grep python3-urllib3 python3-urllib3/noble,now 2.0.7-1 all [installed, automatic] $ apt list --installed | grep python3-requests python3-requests/noble,now 2.31.0+dfsg-1ubuntu1 all [installed, automatic] intel@gramine2404:~/docker-7.0.0$ apt list --installed | grep python3-docker python3-docker/noble,now 5.0.3-1ubuntu1 all [installed] $ lsb_release -a Distributor ID: Ubuntu Description:Ubuntu 24.04 LTS Release:24.04 Codename: noble ``` Installing `docker` using `pip` is not the option on `Ubuntu 24.04`: ``` $ pip3 install docker error: externally-managed-environment × This environment is externally managed ╰─> To install Python packages system-wide, try apt install python3-xyz, where xyz is the package you are trying to install. If you wish to install a non-Debian-packaged Python package, create a virtual environment using python3 -m venv path/to/venv. Then use path/to/venv/bin/python and path/to/venv/bin/pip. Make sure you have python3-full installed. If you wish to install a non-Debian packaged Python application, it may be easiest to use pipx install xyz, which will manage a virtual environment for you. Make sure you have pipx installed. See /usr/share/doc/python3.12/README.venv for more information. note: If you believe this is a mistake, please contact your Python installation or OS distribution provider. You can override this, at the risk of breaking your Python installation or OS, by passing --break-system-packages. hint: See PEP 668 for the detailed specification. ``` Hence Ubuntu 24.04 must upgrade `python3-docker=5.0.3` to `python3-docker>=6.1.0` where the compatibility issue with `requests` and `urllib3` is fixed. [Bug 2064211] Re: /usr/bin/update-manager:AttributeError::available:start_available:refresh_cache:_get_ua_security_status
** Description changed: + Impact + -- + + This bug was is a regression of the bug fix LP:2058133; It held back the + phasing of the package. + + The symptom is that update-manager crashes right at start, doesn't + launch. + + The ua.updates() and current_news() end-points are documented to throw + no exceptions, but actually they might, in which case this bug is + encountered. [Bug 2065349] Re: [SRU] Default user created by cloud-init confuses WSLg
Your question means that I didn't clarify enough the test I followed and how it related to the original test plan proposed. The gap in understanding is more due WSL specifics than cloud-init itself. The fundamental difference between what is proposed in the bug report and what I applied manually is: the availability of the Ubuntu-24.04 Windows application with the latest rootfs containing the patched version of this package (wsl-setup), which drastically simplifies the test setup. Of course that can only happen once this patch is merged and a new build of both the rootfs image and the Windows application submitted to the MS Store. So, the proposed test plan is complete and correct, but requires artifacts not available by the time this SRU bug is processed. It's rather applicable as a quality gate prior to the release of Windows app itself and a means of detecting future regression (our CI is capable of performing exactly that test case to detect regressions). The test I reported in https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/wsl- setup/+bug/2065349/comments/6 is a manual workflow that behaves as if we had such up-to-date Windows app. It can be described in a high level structure as: 1. Set up a rootfs containing the latest version of this package (wsl-setup): - We create a new instance, update wsl-setup and export a snapshot with the minimum changes possible. Thus, cloud-init must be disabled (otherwise it would run automatically - as a systemd service - and cause more changes to the instance). Also. no other users are created as part of that set up. 2. Import that rootfs image emulating the behavior the Windows application would have (i.e. as if we run `ubuntu2404.exe`) - All the steps related to ensuring there is no cloud-init user-data files to be found, `wsl --import`, `adduser` and wait on cloud-init steps. Also the instance shutdown is needed to make the changes in `/etc/wsl.conf` to take effect. 3. Finally, perform the actual test, which is: ensure there is no `ubuntu` user pre-created and Wayland apps work. I'll edit that comment to clarify that structure, so others, not familiar with WSL specifics, may reason about what that procedure actually achieves. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2065349 Title: [SRU] Default user created by cloud-init confuses WSLg To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/wsl-setup/+bug/2065349/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 2066902] [NEW] Night Light occasionally gets stuck
Public bug reported: Since installing Ubuntu 24.04, every now and then Night Light gets stuck when my screen is locked at night and I unlock it in the morning. The screen is then very orange (more so than normally is the case with Night Light), and disabling it with the button in in the top bar menu does nothing. The only ways to restore the screen to normal are disabling and enabling the colour profile or running `gdbus call -e -o /org/gnome/SettingsDaemon/Color -d org.gnome.SettingsDaemon.Color -m org.gnome.SettingsDaemon.Color.NightLightPreview 1` I have never been able to find anything remotely relevant in any system logs regarding this issue. It also does not happen every day, but probably once every seven to ten days or so. My PC has an AMD RX550 GPU using the amdgpu driver. I'm not sure if it makes a difference, but so far I've not seen this problem on my other machines with Intel IGPs.
