[Bug 1899848] Re: Broken WiFi Install on Ubuntu (MATE) 21.10 for BCM4306 (rev 03)

2021-09-27 Thread Aaron Pickett
Bug has recurred after beta installation of 21.10 (Impish). b43 firmware
reverted to version 784.2, causing significant degradation of WiFi
performance. using b43-fwcutter to load firmware version 5.100.138
(666.2) resolved the issue.

[Bug 1899848] Re: Broken WiFi Install on Ubuntu (MATE) 20.10 for BCM4306 (rev 03)

2020-10-19 Thread Aaron Pickett
I manually installed firmware version 5.100.138 using the b43-fwcutter
tool, and my throughput has returned to normal. I recommend that the b43
installer package default to this firmware for the BCM4306 (rev 03).

I still get the "swiotlb buffer" spamming my logs, but that might have
been happening before.

[Bug 1899848] [NEW] Broken WiFi Install on Ubuntu (MATE) 20.10 for BCM4306 (rev 03)

2020-10-14 Thread Aaron Pickett
Public bug reported:

Device ID:
Network controller [0280]: Broadcom Inc. and subsidiaries BCM4306 802.11b/g
Wireless LAN Controller [14e4:4320] (rev 03)

WiFi worked correctly in Ubuntu MATE 20.04. Now I'm getting very slow
throughput and constant error messages like the following:

b43-pci-bridge :03:02.0: swiotlb buffer is full (sz: 2390 bytes),
total 0 (slots), used 0 (slots)

It sounds like this may be related to errors introduced in b43-fwcutter
1:019-5 with installing the wrong firmware, as reported in Debian bugs
#958566 and #960279.

2020-10-14 Thread Aaron Pickett
Similar problem, same hardware. Really low throughput, and my logs are
getting spammed with the following error since upgrading from Ubuntu
MATE 20.04 to 20.10 beta. It worked fine in 20.04:

b43-pci-bridge :03:02.0: swiotlb buffer is full (sz: 2390 bytes),
total 0 (slots), used 0 (slots)

According to the bcm43xx Ubunti Wiki, my hardware isn't supported by
"bcmwl-kernel-source".

[Bug 1450448] Re: kinfocenter crash

@spear: How are you determining KDE compositor OpenGL version apart from
kinfocenter?

After some research, my OpenGL 2.x issue may be due to the fact that r300
doesn't fully support GL_ARB_texture_non_power_of_two:

Possibly related: KDE Plasma doesn't seem to detect that my r300 is
OpenGL 2.x compatible. I'm basing this on the lack of an Invert
Desktop Effect, as described here:

Can we also backport 331.20 to 13.10 / Saucy? The current nvidia

[Bug 1250449] Re: Include the 331 driver in Ubuntu

2013-11-12 Thread Aaron Pickett
@Alberto: The stock 319.60 from Saucy nvidia-319-updates. While power
users can patch, I think we need a repository update for everyone else.

319.72 includes the 3.11 fix, and it's in Debian unstable:
http://packages.qa.debian.org/n/nvidia-graphics-drivers/news/20131109T134942Z.html

However, it might make more sense to update to the 331 branch since it's now
the current long-lived branch from nvidia, and 331.20 has the 3.11 fix:
https://devtalk.nvidia.com/default/topic/533434/linux/current-graphics-driver-releases/

[Bug 1250449] Re: Include the 331 driver in Ubuntu

2013-11-12 Thread Aaron Pickett
319.49-0ubuntu2 pre-dates the following issue with the 3.11 kernel:
https://devtalk.nvidia.com/default/topic/628864/unix-graphics-announcements-and-news/num_physpages-and-support-for-3-11-and-later-kernels
http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=news_itempx=MTUwMTk

Nvidia provided a hotfix patch for 319.60, and fixed the issue in the
319.72 (http://ftp-master.metadata.debian.org/changelogs/non-free/n
/nvidia-graphics-drivers/unstable_changelog) and 331.20 releases
(http://packages.qa.debian.org/n/nvidia-graphics-
drivers/news/20131108T193429Z.html).

To my knowledge, this issue doesn't prevent a build of the kernel
module. Sorry for the confusion.

To clarify, my request is that either 319.72 (bug fix) or 331.20
(current long-lived branch with shiny features) be pushed to Saucy, so
that users don't have to apply the hotfix patch and deviate from the
repository. I have an AMD64 system with a GeForce GT 610 that has been
highly unstable since upgrading from 13.04 to 13.10, and the most likely
culprit I can find is the nvidia binary driver.

Thanks for the replies. :)

[Bug 752493] [NEW] 11.04 Beta: Screen flicker and horizontal bands every 30 seconds

2011-04-06 Thread Aaron Pickett
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

The flickering occurs continuously in both the login screen and after
login. This problem occurred under 10.10 (see
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/666441), but it was every 8-10
seconds. This problem does not occur in a dual-booted Windows
environment. Changing resolution and refresh rate does not appear to
affect the bug.

The monitor is a Samsung 763MB CRT.

[Bug 407652] Re: kernel BUG at /build/buildd/linux-2.6.28/arch/x86/mm/pat.c:298!

2009-10-15 Thread Aaron Pickett
I just confirmed that the kernel bug and crash on shutdown disappeared
after turning off UMA memory (option UMA+SidePort).

Specifically, I set the BIOS option for Video Graphic Mode to
SidePort, and the bug did not occur.

I am using BIOS version F.1C, the newest version available from HP.

[Bug 291878] Re: Notebook Volume Up/Down Buttons Misbehaving

2008-11-05 Thread Aaron Pickett
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 268949 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/268949

I'm not convinced that this bug is a duplicate of #268949, for two
reasons:

1. 268949 describes the volume not responding at all to keyboard/button
input. In this bug, the volume does respond to input, but does so
continuously. I have verified that the GUI slider in the panel app does
move up/down (and continues to move to max/min volume) when the volume
buttons are pushed.

2. 268949 does not report the additional problems with mouse input after
trying to use the volume up/down button.

These two bugs may be related, but they are not the same behaviors.

[Bug 291878] Re: Notebook Volume Up/Down Buttons Misbehaving

2008-11-01 Thread Aaron Pickett
They are related. The second problem (loss of right-click and menu
functions) occurs only after pressing the sound buttons.

[Bug 291878] [NEW] Notebook Volume Up/Down Buttons Misbehaving

2008-10-31 Thread Aaron Pickett
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu 8.10 64-bit (clean install of release version)
HP Pavilion zv6130us Notebook

When I press the volume up or down buttons on my notebook, the following events
occur:
1. The volume indicator appears on the screen. It shows the volume
increase/decrease incrementally, then a pause, then it continues to
increase/decrease all the way to max/min volume. The actual volume changes
accordingly. I am not holding down the button, simply pressing it once.
2. The mouse no longer performs the right-click function and is unable to open
menus (including top panel and window menus). I can still left-click on icons
to activate them. This problem occurs with both the synaptics touchpad and a
USB mouse. Logging out and back in resolves this problem.

I can successfully change volume levels by using the volume icon in the
top panel.
