[Bug 1726519] Re: Unable to handle kernel NULL pointer dereference at isci_task_abort_task

2018-01-20 Thread Abelardo Jara-Berrocal
Thanks a lot to Joseph to find this bug.

I dont understand well the flow how you upstream this patches into LTS
kernels (like 4.14, 4.9, etc).

I checked on Torvald's git repository and 4.14.14 still doesnt have this
patch.

So I applied the patch mentioned by Joseph by myself and rebuilt the
4.14.14 kernel.

You can find the .deb files here:

2018-01-18 Thread Abelardo
In which kernel is fix present? do you know please if it will be
backported to 4.14 since it is the LTS kernel?

I dont see this patch in 4.14.13

do you know when it will be out in 4.14 or which 4.15.x (x=?) will this
come out?

2018-01-08 Thread Abelardo
I have same issue. I hoped it was fixed on kernel 4.14.12 (since it is
the LTS kernel which patches spectre & meltdown); but it is also broken.

I also do get the error mentioned about.

Can this please be fixed for good? please?

[Bug 1447808] Re: Access denied for user 'root'@'localhost' after upgrading to Ubuntu 15.04

2015-04-27 Thread Jesús Abelardo Saldívar Aguilar
I think, this problem is because the root mysql account is now setup to
aunthenticate via unix_socket instead of a password:

https://mariadb.com/kb/en/mariadb/unix_socket-authentication-plugin/

So, you can enter to mysql as root user if you are logged in to the
system using the root unix user (or using sudo) and you don't need to
type the mysql password:

sudo mysql -u root

(this only will ask you for your root's system password, not your root's
mysql password

This is the output from mysql when I query for the root account grants
(SHOW GRANTS FOR 'root'@'localhost';):

GRANT ALL PRIVILEGES ON *.* TO 'root'@'localhost' IDENTIFIED VIA
unix_socket WITH GRANT OPTION

So, if you want to connect to mysql using a password, I suggest to
create another mysql user, and identify it using a password

[Bug 1447808] Re: Access denied for user 'root'@'localhost' after upgrading to Ubuntu 15.04

2015-04-26 Thread Jesús Abelardo Saldívar Aguilar
I found that the root user are now set up to login using unix_socket
authentication plugin instead of a password, so one can login as root
when using sudo command:

sudo mysql -u root

Also, what I did to solve my problem was to create another user, with
log in via password and grant all permissions to that user.

That response from Brian Murray is very much PATHETIC.. Ubuntu 12.04 is
the LTS and is supposed to be challenging Mountain Lion 10.8, how you
expect people to use Ubuntu as main OS, if the answer is this has to be
fixed first in 13.04?? this is pretty much a lazy and pathetic answer.
BTw I have a PhD in Computer Eng so I know what I am talking about. This
attitude is bad.

Sorry if you got offended, but sometimes we need to talk straight.

[Bug 237443] Re: Crash during playback with CPU time limit error

2009-05-13 Thread Abelardo Jara-Berrocal
I sincerely dont know why these bug is being completely and
systematically ignored by bug trackers in Ubuntu. It is pretty annoying
bug. Hardy has it, Intrepid much much better, Jaunty has it again. Can
somebody has mercy and backport it to Hardy?

I just keep looking developers completely ignoring solving this problem
for Hardy too. I have actively motivating using Ubuntu at my university
(U of Florida) but when people keep seeing this bug.

Also importance is not low, it is audio, we have audio in all multimedia
applications. So with all respect, i think this is does not make sense.

[Bug 237443] Re: Crash during playback with CPU time limit error

2009-04-09 Thread Abelardo Jara-Berrocal
Fixed, I switched to OSS4, and I dont have any word, it is so awesome,
sorry guys, but it is much superior than Pulseaudio and Alsa, I just can
play sounds and it does not have any trouble and even Skype, works out
of the box (static OSS version).

OSS4 was the solution to my problems. Pulse is always breaking up, locking up.
With Pulse, ALSA or just OSS I've never been able to get Voice (VoIP) inside
Second Life.
I've been running OSS4 for a couple of weeks now with any glitches.. superb...
100%. Faster and lighter than pulse, it made possible to use Voice in Second
Life (usually won't work without hardware mixing in the audio chip/board) and I
can run VLC, Firefox, Amarok, Second Life (and streaming and Voice inside SL)
all at the same time with impecable quality.

To everybody with this problem I suggest you strongly, change to OSS4
(now it is GPLed).

https://help.ubuntu.com/community/OpenSound

I suggest you to use the mercurial way (download source code and compile
it), after this, no more problems with Skype not working, Quake
crashing, Wine crashing, everything crashed pulseaudio with the error
reported above.

Backported to Hardy this is a great problem I am trying to install
Ubuntu Hardy (because it is LONG TIME SUPPORT) and in all machines with
Intel sound cards there is this problem, everything else works great,
and I am trying to promote Ubuntu as much as possible between my
friends, but this thing is bad.

Pulseaudio keeps dying with this message of this bug.

My asoundrc is: (I modified to have software microphone gain because if
not it is not possible to record, volume is super low.

/home/abelardo/.asoundrc.asoundconf

pcm.!default { type pulse }
ctl.!default { type pulse }

card 0
}
max_dB 45.0

}
ctl.pulse { type pulse }

Other files are not modified, but pulseaudio keeps dying from time to
time with that message. Please helppp
