2009-10-07 Thread Adam Spain
As you say this is still present in Karmic. I *think* it's not working
because the appropriate default settings are not in the
kglobalshortcutsrc and khotkeysrc files in the kubuntu-default-settings
package, so I've changed the source package for the bug.

[Bug 401504] Re: needs-packaging latest version of valac

2009-07-20 Thread Adam Spain
Version 0.7.4 is already in Karmic (the next release of Ubuntu). It's
unlikely the latest version will go into 9.04 unless it can meet the
criteria for a Stable Release Update:

[Bug 246625] Re: libc6-xen not used by dynamic linker

2008-10-23 Thread Adam Spain
On my Hardy server I find the output of ldd /bin/bash is different
depending on which kernel I use, so I think it might be an issue with
linux-image-xen. Booting the kernel provided by linux-image-xen I get:

ldd /bin/bash
linux-gate.so.1 = (0xf57fe000)
libncurses.so.5 = /lib/libncurses.so.5 (0xb7f5a000)
libdl.so.2 = /lib/tls/i686/cmov/libdl.so.2 (0xb7f56000)
libc.so.6 = /lib/tls/i686/cmov/libc.so.6 (0xb7e06000)
/lib/ld-linux.so.2 (0xb7f9)

However if I run the Xen kernel from Debain Etch (linux-
image-2.6.18-6-xen-686) I get:

ldd /bin/bash
linux-gate.so.1 = (0xb7ef8000)
libncurses.so.5 = /lib/libncurses.so.5 (0xb7ec2000)
libdl.so.2 = /lib/tls/i686/nosegneg/libdl.so.2 (0xb7ebe000)
libc.so.6 = /lib/tls/i686/nosegneg/libc.so.6 (0xb7d6b000)
/lib/ld-linux.so.2 (0xb7ef9000)

I don't really understand what's going on, but maybe this will help to
figure it out.

[Bug 260647] Re: Pashto keyboard layout can not be added

2008-10-20 Thread Adam Spain
Attached is a debdiff to fix the syntax errors which cause the error
message. The debdiff is against the version of xkeyboard-config
currently in hardy-proposed, as I'm assuming that will eventually get
approved. Intrepid and Gutsy don't have these same syntax errors in
their packages, so I assume they do not have this bug.

I believe the impact of this bug is pretty big as it causes all of the
Afghanistan keyboard layouts to be unusable (not just Pashto), as they
cannot be selected (using the Gnome or KDE interfaces for setting the
keyboard layout). The patch is really pretty minor, just changing a
full stop to a comma in three places in the keyboard layout file. I
don't see how this change could cause any regressions, but my knowledge
of this package is very limited (I only found the syntax errors because
the full stops look out of place and like a typo).

TEST CASE:
In Gnome on Hardy go System - Preferences - Keyboard, select the Layouts tab
and click the Add button. From the Layouts drop down select Afghanistan
and select any of the variants from the Variants drop down. Click the Add
button and notice the Error activating XKB configuration error comes up
in a box. When the bug is fixed, there should be no error and you should be
able to use the Afghanistan keyboard layouts.

[Bug 260647] Re: Pashto keyboard layout can not be added

2008-10-16 Thread Adam Spain
I think I've found the problem. There appears to be some syntax errors
in /usr/share/X11/xkb/symbols/af, with full stops being in three places
where there should be a comma. I've attached a fixed version of the
file. If you download it and overwrite the file in
/usr/share/X11/xkb/symbols (you'll need to be root), you can try
removing and adding the Pashto keyboard layout again to see if it fixed
it for you. It looks to be working to me, but if you could confirm that
would be helpful.

I don't think this problem is present in Intrepid because the file
doesn't have these syntax errors, although I haven't tested to check.
It would be nice to get this fixed in Hardy as it's pretty broken
currently.

[Bug 199393] Re: servicemenu for amarok has an invalid menu entry addAsPodcast

2008-07-30 Thread Adam Spain
MikeCalder I agree it's taking a long time to get the fix published. I
guess the current holdup is waiting for the SRU verification team to
test the update (which is very simple and shouldn't need that much
testing). I don't know if the SRU verification team have a backlog or
this is just the normal amount of time it takes, but this process
doesn't seem very good at getting annoying bugs that affect a lot of

It's not been fixed in Intrepid because according to Riddell we don't

Attached is a debdiff that should fix this in Intrepid. I've also
uploaded packages with this fix for Hardy to my PPA, which people can
test/use to fix this bug:

https://launchpad.net/~adamspain/+archive

I think it would be good if this could be fixed in a Stable Release
Update for Hardy as it is pretty annoying. My understanding of the
process is that it would need to be fixed in Intrepid first though, so
that's what this debdiff does. I'm pretty new to fixing packages, so
please point out any mistakes.

[Bug 209831] [NEW] Unable to pass parameters with spaces in

2008-03-31 Thread Adam Spain
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: kdesudo

I can't find any way to pass a parameter that has spaces in. With sudo
and kdesu.distrib I can do this, and it works to open a file in a folder
that has spaces in the name:

kdesu.distrib kate test folder/test.txt
sudo kate test folder/test.txt

But if I do that same command with kdesudo, Kate says it's opening the
file /home/user/'test folder/test.txt' (note the single quotes around
the file name that was passed in double quotes). Certainly kdesudo
isn't behaving like sudo or kdesu.distrib here. I've come across this
issue attempting to fix bugs 152856 (1) and 162279 (2), which are both
issues running a process as root where a parameter has a space in it.
I'm running Kubuntu Hardy KDE3 (kdesudo 2.5.1).

I have no idea what URL you're pointing to above.

It's the link to the bug at SourceForge in the table of related bugs at
the top of the Launchpad page, where it says sf #1266858.

I've tried this patch on hardy alpha 5 and it doesn't fix it for me.
Does it fix it for anyone else?

[Bug 133927] Re: mountconfig.py crashed with ImportError: No module named pyqtconfig

2008-02-28 Thread Adam Spain
The pyqtconfig module imports without error from the python interpreter
on a Gutsy live CD, so I think this was fixed at some time. Probably by
this new release of python-qt3 11 days after this bug was reported which
has in the changelog Move pyqtconfig.py to python-qt3, it is needed for
mountconfig from kde-guidance:

[Bug 163666] Re: mirror.list needs update to hardy

2007-11-26 Thread Adam Spain
Attached debdiff to hopefully fix this. It's my first debdiff, so
please point out any problems.

I left Brandon Holtsclaw as the maintainer (instead of changing to MOTU)
as he's left himself as maintainer with previous updates for Ubuntu, and
he's also the maintainer in Debian so it seems more appropriate.
Hopefully I'm right about that.

[Bug 150302] Re: LiveCD puts monitor into standby mode

I get the same problem on the Kubuntu 7.10 RC live CD. I hear the start

it always has without the nvidia driver). When I move the mouse it
comes out of standby and everything works fine. I don't have this
problem with the Kubuntu 7.04 live CD.

[Bug 109734] Re: Verdana Bold rendering problems

2007-05-03 Thread Adam Spain
After looking on the Freetype mailing list it looks like this is a known
problem with rendering Verdana bold in anti-aliased mode:

http://lists.gnu.org/archive/html/freetype/2006-11/msg00011.html

In particular in this post one of the Freetype authors says certain
sizes of Verdana bold cannot be rendered properly in anti-aliased mode:

http://lists.gnu.org/archive/html/freetype/2006-11/msg00042.html

It's damn annoying Linux still has these basic problems rendering the
Microsoft fonts which are used so extensively on the web. As a work
around I've added this rule to my .fonts.conf file in my home directory
which (I think) disables anti-aliasing for bold Verdana at some font
sizes:

!-- Disable antialiasing for Verdana Bold at some font sizes--
match target=font
  test compare=more name=weight
   constmedium/const
  /test
 test name=family qual=any
   stringVerdana/string
  /test
  !-- check font size --
  test compare=more_eq name=pixelsize qual=any
   double11/double
  /test
  test compare=less_eq name=pixelsize qual=any
   double18/double
  /test
  edit mode=assign name=antialias

[Bug 64224] Re: [Edgy] Bad vertical scroll-bar's look in Firefox 2.0b2

2007-04-30 Thread Adam Spain
I think this is a bug in the GTK-QT engine. This bug in SUSU Linux
reports the same problem and has a patch:

https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=143263

I don't know if their patch could be adapted for use in the current
code. Also I think their patch causes the slider to be about 2 pixels
too narrow when compared to the slider arrow buttons, which is kind of
fixing one bug and creating another. I'll change this bug to be against
the gtk-qt-engine package (if I can).

[Bug 109734] Verdana Bold rendering problems

2007-04-24 Thread Adam Spain
Public bug reported:

The middle part of the capital N in Verdana bold (and bold italic) is
rendered too wide for me on Kubuntu Feisty at some font sizes. I don't
remember this problem being present on Kubuntu Dapper. The whole of
capitals V and W also appear to be too wide. The only customisation
to my font setup I've done is changing my .fonts.conf in my home
directory, and the problem still exists when I remove that.

The problem with the capital N can be seen in the Science/Nature heading on

In this image you can see the font preview from font installer in system

can clearly see on the third line the N, V and W are too bold, and
the middle part of the N is too wide in Verdana bold italic on line 6.
