This is still a problem in Firefox 44 on a stock install of 15.10. When Unity's menu bar is opened, Firefox's menu bar is opened as well, but it only shows up as a two pixel-tall line. If you go to the customize screen the thin line is visible there; you can even add icons and whatnot to it. [Bug 1376862] [NEW] Muting sound effects no longer changes event-sounds setting

[Bug 1337926] [NEW] Switching workspaces: launcher stays grey panel does not update
Public bug reported: When switching workspaces, occasionally (1 out of 10 times, sometimes more frequently) the launcher and panel do not update. This means that although a worskpace is opened with a focused window, the panel still reads Ubuntu Desktop and the launcher is gray (as it is when selecting workspaces). The launcher is still functional and can bring other windows forward, but it stays gray and the panel still says Ubuntu Desktop. They only update properly whenl the user either switches desktops again or activates a window spread. See the attached screenshot. In it, Firefox is actually focused, so the panel should read New Tab - Mozilla Firefox. And, of course, the launcher should not be gray. I wonder if it is related to showing menus in the window's title bar setting, since I can't seem to reproduce it with the old global menu. Not sure about that though. I applied your fix, Jeff, and it did make everything consistent and prevent Gedit from changing. However, all the fonts look slightly thinner. [Bug 1290691] [NEW] gThumb has no window decorations
Public bug reported: Version 3.3.1 of gThumb (the one currently packaged for Trusty) uses the new GNOME header bars. It does this in every environment, meaning that when using Unity there are no window decorations save when the window is maximized, and then there are two window titles. This is inconsistent with any other application in Ubuntu. There is some talk from the developers about adding an option for desktop environments other than GNOME shell (see: https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=724238), but this certainly will not be ready for Trusty's release. This version should therefore be patched if possible (as has been done with Nautilus/Files and a few other programs I believe) or, more simply, the version used in Saucy (3.0.2) should be used as default. The later option would make sense considering Trusty is an LTS release. To reproduce with gedit, open a text file (say, by double clicking on it), but make sure another window is focused by the time it starts up. The result is that the text displayed by gedit will be a lighter, harder to see, shade of gray. If the window is dragged around the text actually turns darker (i.e. the proper shade of gray) temporarily, then reverts back to the lighter color once the dragging is complete. If the file opens in gedit while it is focused, the text is darker (i.e. the proper shade) and everything is fine. See attachments for the text color comparison. This is certainly a theme or unico theme engine problem (not sure which though), since it occurs with at least two programs when using the Ambiance and Radiance themes, while it does not occur using the high contrast or Awaita themes. I'm using Ubuntu 13.10, though the problem has been there for a quite some time, definitely since 12.04, but maybe longer; I just couldn't figure out how to reproduce it until now. ** Affects: ubuntu-themes (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Attachment added: Lighter text. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1256162/+attachment/3919465/+files/Screenshot%20from%202013-11-28%2020%3A24%3A46.png -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1256162 Title: If certain programs are opened unfocused, text is a lighter shade To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubuntu-themes/+bug/1256162/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1018718] Re: columns width redrawn by multiple events
Ah, I see Alberto. I've narrowed down the problem down to two lines in the Ambiance theme. If lines 66 and 68 in /usr/share/themes/Ambiance/gtk-3.0/gtk-widgets.css are deleted, the columns are perfectly stable. The two lines are: -unico-focus-border-color: alpha (@selected_bg_color, 0.5); -unico-focus-fill-color: alpha (@selected_bg_color, 0.1); But that has a nasty side effect, namely an ugly pink color that appears when selecting tabs and files in list view. [Bug 1172573] [NEW] Nautilus 3.6 list view adjusts size of columns frequently
Public bug reported: When viewing files in list view with Nautilus, the columns change their width back and forth when: -switching to another window -switching back to Nautilus -moving the Nautilus window -Alt-tabing between windows -right clicking to bring up the context menu -clicking on the global menu -clicking on any of the options buttons -and more! Basically doing anything but clicking on a folder or file will cause the columns to resize themselves. But this does not happen all the time... it seems like only when viewing a directory with a substantial number of files and folders, though I have folders with hundreds of images in them and it does not happen, so it's tough to pin down when it occurs. [Bug 1054776] Re: Don't include remote searches in the home lens
In addition to the privacy concerns stated above, I'd just like to add that this causes a *huge* hit to usability. There is already a lot of information presented in the dash home, and adding a stream of information that is probably totally irrelevant to a given search goes against the whole point of having the dash - namely to find stuff more easily. Example: I keep a journal on my computer. It is a file named journal.odt. If I type in journal, I just want to see that journal (and maybe some relevant programs, like Gnome Activity Journal). I don't want to see icons for: Hand - Deadroom Journal [2008] $7.77; Taylor Dupree - Journal [2011] $2.79; Bridge 61 - Journal [2006] $8.99; Jully - Journal Intime [2008] $9.99; Arabica - Journal [2010] $9.99; Dday One - Journal [2011] $2.79... and that's just one line. That this turns every desktop search in to an advertisement threatens to make Ubuntu seem like adware itself, as vexorian mentions above, but even if one finds these options useful, the amount of clutter added to the dash home is a problem. Making this a separate lens would solve both these issues to an extent, since if the user went specifically to the shopping lens there would at least be the assumption that the user wants to actually buy something. Integrating it with the home lens makes no sense since the vast, vast majority of times a user types something into the dash they don't want to buy something new, but rather want find something that is already on their computer. This, coupled with the privacy concerns mentioned above (which are really, really serious), ultimately means that even a separate lens should be an *opt-in* feature - especially considering the vast majority of users will have no clue how to disable it. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1054776 Title: Don't include remote searches in the home lens To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unity-lens-shopping/+bug/1054776/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1026426] [NEW] LibreOffice Calc and Draw launcher integration broken
Public bug reported: LibreOffice Calc and Draw are not coming up on the launcher properly as of a few weeks ago (can't remember exactly when). If Calc or Draw is locked to launcher, all is normal. Opening just Calc or Draw via the dash works as normal too. However, problems arise if you open a document directly (from the dash or double clicking in Nautilus) when there is no icon pinned to the launcher: Case #1 A white generic Liberoffice icon appears - not the proper application icon (eg a green one for Calc, a yellow one for Draw). If more documents are opened, no more wee triangles appear and the icon becomes useless: it cannot be clicked to switch to any open instance. There is no way to switch to it if the window is minimized, as now LibreOffice no longer appears in the alt-tab switcher. Close LibreOffice. Open a file directly again. Case #2 Now the proper icon appears - but with an empty hole in between launcher and icon. If more documents are opened the white triangles appear and alt-tab still works, but the hole remains. Sometimes the hole is two icons wide. Close LibreOffice. Repeat. Case #1 now reapers, and it will go back and forth ad infinitum. Note that I don't get this problem with Writer or Impress, which is pretty werid. I've tried this with LibreOffice 3.5.3.2 and the PPA version (currently 3.5.5.3). I've also tested using lo-menubar and not, but it makes no difference. I've also tested it on two separate computers using Precise and purged all of LibreOffice and reinstalled... all to no avail. [Bug 994754] Re: Xscreensaver locks when it should not
I managed to figure out a workaround, though I imagine there's a better solution out there. I looked at what was happening when my lid was closed and opened in /etc/acpi/lid.sh and found that xscreensaver was being called upon automatically. I tried to make it simply obey its config file and not lock, but couldn't figure it out, so I ended up simply deleting the lines that involved xscreensaver. Now everything works great: no locking, and if the lid is closed passed the amount of time which you have set for xscreensaver to start, it'll start normally (and not lock). I'm still not sure why xscreensaver is set up to be called automatically when the lid is closed or why it ignores it's settings and locks when the lid is opened. I also don't get why on one laptop (Thinkpad T60) the problem always occurs, whereas on another (Vaio SZ-450) it happens in spurts (sometimes it locks every time, sometimes not at all), despite them having the same lid.sh file and both using Ubuntu 12.04. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/994754 Title: Xscreensaver locks when it should not To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xscreensaver/+bug/994754/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 992646] Re: LightDM does not use users wallpaper if not selected from default
LightDM will display the user added wallpaper (at any resolution I believe) - but only if it has permission to read the file (i.e. the relevant folders and file both allow Others read access). I had problems with this since even though my Pictures folder and image were readable, a subfolder therein was not. While this makes sense, I assume the default behavior should be more user-friendly: if a user adds a background image, LightDM will also display it. I found this behavior both on a computer upgraded from Natty and one with a fresh Precise install. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/992646 Title: LightDM does not use users wallpaper if not selected from default To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unity-greeter/+bug/992646/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 994754] [NEW] Xscreensaver locks when it should not
Public bug reported: I have removed gnome-screensaver and replaced it with xscreensaver, and am trying to prevent it from locking my screen when my laptop's screen turns back on or when it wakes up from being suspended. Even though the Lock Screen After box in xscreensaver's setting is unchecked, the lock will still pop up and demand a password when I open my lid. The expected behavior is, of course, to not have that occur. The system settings have also been set to Do nothing when I close it (and indeed, gnome-screensaver obeyed these settings just fine when I was using it). Often after I restart the computer xscreensaver acts as it should for a while, but eventually the problem will crop back up. I've noticed no pattern, save that when it does start doing this I can't seem to make it stop. I'm using Ubuntu 12.04 (though this also occured in 11.10). I'm also not alone I think, see: http://askubuntu.com/questions/95295/how-to-prevent- screen-locking-when-lid-is-closed Thanks! ** Affects: xscreensaver (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/994754 Title: Xscreensaver locks when it should not To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xscreensaver/+bug/994754/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 994875] [NEW] If Comix opens maximized bottom of window does not appear
Public bug reported: When Comix is opened maximized, the bottom of the screen is cut off and shows whatever is behind it. It can be fixed by un-maximizing it/minimizing it and then maximizing it again. No error occurs when Comix is started un-maximized - the entire window shows as normal. Please see the attached screenshot, where the bottom of the window (including the scrollbars and the statusbar) is cut off and shows the desktop. I'm using Comix 4.0.4 in Ubuntu 12.04. This problem did not occur to me in Ubuntu 11.10. [Bug 834248] Re: [With Patch]: Non-maximized windows which sit on the bottom edge of the lower workspaces shift downwards when called from an upper workspace.
I've just upgraded to Precise, and the problem is still there. The behavior seems slightly different now, in that when the windows are snapped to the side, the issue doesn't occur (or at least I haven't noticed it yet - it was consistent in Oneiric). When a normal un- maximized window is sitting on the bottom of a lower workspace and is called by clicking the launcher while in an upper one, however, it is still moved and sits between the workspaces. Now it seems not just to move down into the top a bit, but move almost entirely into the upper workspace, which is even worse. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/834248 Title: [With Patch]: Non-maximized windows which sit on the bottom edge of the lower workspaces shift downwards when called from an upper workspace. [Bug 959339] Re: clicking on launcher item raises all app windows, not just most recently focussed
This is not a regression as it's been happening since Natty. Clicking the launcher when there are multiple windows of an application open actually does different things (see: https://bugs.launchpad.net/unity/+bug/940686). Regardless, it is indeed a bug and only one window should be brought forward. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/959339 Title: clicking on launcher item raises all app windows, not just most recently focussed To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ayatana-design/+bug/959339/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 944558] [NEW] Text in Unity panel, HUD, dash corrupted
Public bug reported: The fonts in the Unity panel, the dash, and the HUD are corrupted. This seems to only affect certain the text in certain places. For instance, in the dash the F in Filter has a blue line on it (see first screenshot). Using the HUD, the first letter typed is always corrupted, generally with some vertical orange lines. The same letter will not be corrupted if it is not the first characer typed (see second screenshot). Finally, the first letter of a title in the panel is corrupted (blue or white lines), even if it is normal on the title bar of a window that is not maximized (see third screenshot). Text in other places seems unaffected. Thanks.
