[Bug 390508] Re: notify-send ignores the expire timeout parameter
I came to this thread because I'm really annoyed by an add-on to Thunderbird, named Gnome Integration, that displays a bubble every time I receive a email, using notify-send that stays on my screen for not less than 10 seconds. Well that's ok if it's just one email but, when I first start my computer every morning, there are always tens or hundreds of emails waiting to be downloaded by Thunderbird. Every single email creates a bubble and they are displayed in sequence for 10 seconds each one. Sum that up and you'll have an idea of my ordeal. It's common that I finish scanning the whole lot of emails and switch to something else before all the bubbles are gone. The add-on has a configuration gui and one of its options is the time out. I was getting annoyed that whatever the amount of time I set there, there was no change in behaviour and I started googling for a solution. That's how I came across this bug report. It makes me sad that no interest is shown by the Ubuntu team to either tackle this issue or, at least, give us (users and developers alike) a feasible alternative to get what we want/need. I went through this hole thread looking for an easy solution for my issue and the only one I could find was a patch to notify-osd to allow setting different time outs. The problem with that is that, although I'm a developer for other platforms, I don't have the smallest clue as how to apply the patch and recompile the package. So, I think my only solution is to disable (or uninstall?) the add-on until there's a solution to this or until I find another add-on that does the same as Gnome Integration without using notify-osd. -- notify-send ignores the expire timeout parameter https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/390508 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 540175] Re: sun-java6
I want to second this request for keeping Sun-Java in the list of supported packages. Besides being Brazilian and subject to the issues already posted by my fellow countrymen here, as a developer I, as well as a the large majority of developers around the world, take advantage of development IDEs to get our work done in an easier and more integrated manner. In my case, I use Eclipse, which is a java application. Although it works to some extent with OpenJDK, not all of it's features work correctly without Oracle's JVM, and it's really slow under OpenJDK. This is true for other IDEs too, as well as many other java apps available out there. I'm aware that we can always get sun-java from other sources, but it would make it a lot more difficult for the not so tech-savvy users to accomplish. Further, the upgrade/update process to newer versions/releases of the package would be a lot more difficult to be done, forcing many of those users to rely upon an outdated and less secure version/release. So, please, let it stay in the list of supported packages or at least, as jmhal pointed out, give Ubuntu users an easy way to install and upgrade/update it from other sources, whatever they might be. -- sun-java6 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/540175 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
