[Bug 1577573] Re: segmentation fault during X startup 16.04

2016-09-21 Thread Alberto Jovito
Can you test the latest driver in git?... What model is your
motherboard? bug #1554004 fixed problem in other chips VX900, P4M400 ...

Instructions to install latest driver:

In order to download OpenChrome master branch code, you need to have Git
installed.

$ sudo apt-get install git

Also, the dependent packages for OpenChrome need to be installed as
well.

$ sudo apt-get build-dep xserver-xorg-video-openchrome

Please note that, at least in Ubuntu, the package for OpenChrome is called
xserver-xorg-video-openchrome, not xf86-video-openchrome.
Now clone the OpenChrome repository to your local computer storage device.

$ git clone git://anongit.freedesktop.org/openchrome/xf86-video-
openchrome

After you finished cloning the OpenChrome repository, enter the
resulting directory.

$ cd xf86-video-openchrome

2) Compiling OpenChrome (debug build)

Before you can compile the code, the compilation and other scripts need
to be generated.

$ ./autogen.sh --prefix=/usr --enable-debug --enable-xv-debug --enable-
viaregtool

"--enable-viaregtool" instructs "make" to generate via_regs_dump under
xf86-video-openchrome/tools.
If there were no errors, OpenChrome can now be compiled.

$ make

If OpenChrome compiles without errors, you are now ready to install
OpenChrome.

Install OpenChrome.

$ sudo make install

[Bug 1205643] Re: VIA P4M800 graphics broken in Lubuntu/Xubuntu Saucy 12.04.4 candidate

2014-04-13 Thread Alberto Jovito
I guess it needs SRU informations
(https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates), I'm adding some to the
description, feel free to update same with more specific details.

** Description changed:

+ * Impact:
+ - the driver doesn't work with the X.org version in 12.04 with the Saucy
hardware enablement stack.
+
+ * Test case:
+ - try using 12.04 with the Saucy hardware enablement stack on a machine
needing the openchrome driver.
+
+ * regression potential:
+ - check that xorg sessions work as they should. The patches have received
testing in Saucy/Debian/Trusty and upstream, so presumably should be fairly
safe. The number of people using openchrome is relatively small compared to the
main X drivers, so the scope of risk is rather small here.
+
+ --
+ Saucy Hardware Enablement Stack:
+
+ https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/LTSEnablementStack
+
+ ---
+
Please bear with me and read all of this. Since I can't get a working
display in Saucy with that graphics chip I need to use this method to
file the initial bug report, but I can provide info using a chroot or
replacing the quiet splash boot parameter with text which takes me
  to a tty interface.

I hope using the tty interface provided by using the text boot
parameter I can use apport-collect to collect the info needed from an
installed Lubuntu 13.10 but I won't do so until asked by a dev in case
some switch needs to be set to collect the appropriate info.

I also want to say that I'm fully aware that graphics chip is not
supported by Ubuntu/compiz itself, or even GNOME's mutter window
manager, but I think it should still work with the openbox, metacity,
and Xfwm window managers .. at least I hope so :^)

So onto what actually happens. When I try to boot either Lubuntu or
Xubuntu Saucy Alpha 2, either the live image or an installed version, I
just get a frozen progress bar. So it's just 5 frozen dots on the
screen. If I try booting through the recovery mode or otherwise trying
to startx or 'sudo service lightdm start' I just get a blank screen.
I can see the backlight is working but that's all.

  This is the specific hardware:

  VIA C7 CPU @ 1500MHz
  VIA CN700/P4M800 Pro/P4M800 CE/VN800 Graphics [S3 UniChrome Pro] (rev 01)
  VIA VT8233/A/8235/8237 AC97 Audio Controller (rev 60)
Ethernet controller: VIA Technologies, Inc. VT6102 [Rhine-II] (rev 78)
  1GB DDR2 RAM

I did take a pic of the live image boot process while dealing with an
unrelated d-i bug during Lubuntu Alpha 2 testing process:

  https://launchpadlibrarian.net/145894508/P4M800_xfreeze.JPG

Now I'm wondering what else to say ... the same Saucy images
and installs work with two other totally different sets of hardware.

I'm ready to roll up my sleeves to help gather any needed info. Thanks
  in advance.

I was testing the openchrome drivers git
e53bb7bf442b03b1240445d6c9e846265bda577c in Xubuntu. These work only
when xfsettingsd crash or kill. Otherwise the screen looks as if it were
  turned off.

When you start without xfsettingsd and then run in a terminal, the
screen turns off. To do this on a tty I perform the command:

- sudo /etc/init.d/ start LightDM

[Bug 1251849] Re: [VX820] Regression: driver does not work on Samsung NC20

2014-03-24 Thread Alberto Jovito
Compile the driver I install git on Xubuntu 13.10 in one of the
attempts to start the system crash xfsettingsd could get a picture on
the screen. See the bug #1296449 .

I tried it on kubuntu 13.10, installing the driver deb there were no
issues. So I think that the problem of the black screen is caused by the
XFCE desktop environment.

Attached a patch for the package fixes this bug and bug #1165232 .

[Bug 1296449] [NEW] xfsettingsd crashed with SIGSEGV in g_type_create_instance()

2014-03-23 Thread Alberto Jovito
Public bug reported:

I was testing the openchrome drivers git
e53bb7bf442b03b1240445d6c9e846265bda577c in Xubuntu. These work only
when xfsettingsd crash or kill. Otherwise the screen looks as if it were
turned off.

When you start without xfsettingsd and then run in a terminal, the
screen turns off. To do this on a tty I perform the command:

sudo /etc/init.d/ start LightDM

Quickly switch to another tty and I perform the command:

sudo killall xfsettingsd

With the above commands do not reproduce the crash. My graphics chip is
VIA VX800

http://cgit.freedesktop.org/openchrome/xf86-video-openchrome/

With openchrome drivers of saucy, Xorg crash, see bug #1251849

I think it is a problem in Xorg of saucy.

I tried the beta version 1 of trusty 64-bit and goes well without
problems. It's a relief.

@Sebastien They should not of unsubscribed, not yet fixed in previous
versions of ubuntu.

@Scott To saucy can make a fake sync debian Jessie?
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/SecurityTeam/SponsorsQueue

Regarding precise would have to also update the libraries. I think it
is also feasible to make a fake sync from debian wheezy. I'll try to
make a debdiff, and test from my ppa as soon as i can.

[Bug 1290100] Re: [Need update to 1.8.13] 4 Vulnerabilities buffer overflow crash ddos

2014-03-09 Thread Alberto Jovito
The update that corrects this was added to unstable http://metadata.ftp-
master.debian.org/changelogs//main/w/wireshark/wireshark_1.10.6-1_changelog
. Maybe when migrate to testing, ubuntu copy it from there to trusty. I
do not think to update this package in previous versions of ubuntu.

I could not taste the binary debian unstable, because I use precise and
some dependencies are not met.
https://packages.debian.org/source/sid/wireshark

I downloaded the sources of the current version of the package and the
new 1.10.6-1 and make a patch with debdiff. Maybe help.

2014-02-03 Thread Alberto Jovito
I think the installer should be added to this bug. What is the name of
the package that will install ubuntu? Or partition tool?

I do not know well the technical details of the problem but I agree with
cryo-rebirth .. the installer or partitioner should warn when a
partition BtrFS is used and is started partition at sector 63.

Sorry for my bad english...
