[Bug 1898693] [NEW] Devhelp index trims function names for python docs making them unsearchable

2020-10-06 Thread Alek Kowalczyk
Public bug reported:

The devhelp index for Python 3.8 docs (Ubuntu 20.04) trims method and attribute
names from the index items, leaving only the "(<...> method|attribute)" part.
Effectively that makes most of the items there unsearchable through devehelp
interface.

For instance, the index shows:
(str method)
(str static method)
(struct.Struct attribute)

instead of expected:
capitalize (str method)
maketrans (str static method)
size (struct.Struct attribute)

Attached a screenshot.

** Affects: devhelp (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

** Attachment added: "Screenshot of trimmed index items"

[Bug 1809536] [NEW] Empty desktop background after screen unlock - only dock with app icons and top panel, cannot see any app

2018-12-22 Thread Alek Kowalczyk
Public bug reported:

Steps to reproduce (intermittently, ~1 per 10 times):

1. Leave the computer until the screen is blank - two monitors, no multimonitor
plugin
2. Move the mouse to unblank the screen
3. Drag lock screen to top + enter password

Actual results
- Ubuntu dock is visible (with app icons)
- Top panel is visible, but with limited options (e.g. no "Sleep" button, no
app indicators)
- Empty desktop background
- Clicking the app icon does nothing - there is some animation effect, but it
looks like the application would be 'behind' the background
- Clicking "Applications" menu animates but then disappear as well

Partial workaround:
1. Ctrl-Alt-F1
2. Choose the same user and enter password
3. You'll come back to the "empty desktop". But in a few seconds applications
appear with a few limitations:
a) Top panel features are still limited (no sleep/power off buttons in menu, no
app indicators)
b) Ubuntu dock shows different set of apps on each 1st and 2nd monitor

Might be related to one of the stack traces in journalctl -first is probably
when the screen was locked, second when unclodked

[Bug 1545698] [NEW] wx.lib.plot is unusable - uses incompatible constructors API e.g. wx.Cursor instead of wx.CursorFromImage

2016-02-15 Thread Alek Kowalczyk
Public bug reported:

In Ubuntu 15.10 (wily) the wx.lib.plot module uses wrong constructors -
some internal API incompatibility?

For instance wx.lib.plot.PlotCanvas.__init__ raises exception:

 File "/usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/wx-3.0-gtk2/wx/lib/plot.py", line 598,
in __init__
self.HandCursor = wx.Cursor(Hand.GetImage())
  File "/usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/wx-3.0-gtk2/wx/_gdi.py", line 1510, in
__init__
_gdi_.Cursor_swiginit(self,_gdi_.new_Cursor(*args, **kwargs))
TypeError: Required argument 'type' (pos 2) not found

It seems wx.Cursor should be now wx.CursorFromImage.

Here is more comprehensive list of incompatibilities between wx.lib.plot and
rest of wx
wx.Cursor => wx.CursorFromImage
wx.Bitmap => wx.EmptyBitmap
wx.Colour => wx.NamedColour

To make wx.lib.plot usable in Ubuntu 15.10, these two patches (or more) from
github are required:
https://github.com/wxWidgets/wxPython/commit/25bcbf15615b64e095da75e934ea4d254998ec24#diff-20049c762e6b232d6d9ad97291271244

If someone knows a workaround, would appreciate a hint.

[Bug 1054540] [NEW] libQtCore in 12.04 does not contain QAtomicInt - breaks google earth

2012-09-22 Thread Alek Kowalczyk
Public bug reported:

According to QT docs, qtcore should contain QAtomicInt class.
http://doc-snapshot.qt-project.org/4.8/qatomicint.html

neither libQtCore nor other libQt library contains that class in ubuntu 12.04.
The missing class is the root cause of not working google earth.

Scanned all libQt libraries installed using nm and no lib contains it:
$ nm --dynamic /usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/libQtCore.so | grep QAtomicInt
$ nm --dynamic /usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/libQt*.so | grep QAtomicInt
$

the QAtomicInt header files are included in libqt4-dev package but no
libs.

*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 572410 ***

I have confirmed the same bug., but haven't tried modifying modifying
/etc/init/nmbd.conf yet.

After a reboot, I just type:

sudo nmdb

and it all works for me.

I have this problem on my static IP computer, but not on my dynamic IP
computer.

[Bug 920118] [NEW] Samba File Server shared folders doen't work after reboot - (Ubuntu 10.04)

2012-01-22 Thread Alek Silver
Public bug reported:

I banged on various tutorials trying to get my shared folders to work
after rebooting. If I did a fresh install, or re-install of Samba, my
folders would share fine. Once I rebooted, nothing.

The Samba File Server documentation page clued me in as it was the
only page that I found that brough up the nmdb Samba service. It turns
out that the Samba installation doesn't configure nmdb to autostart at
boot. This means people will go through the tutorial, and it will work,
but once they reboot, their shared foldrs disappear.

To get it working for now, after a reboot, I am just typing:

sudo nmdb

That gets file sharing going for me. It would be nice if this tutorial
showed us all how to enable the nmdb service at boot.

[Bug 889558] Re: Smplayer hangs after starting a movie while movie is playing

2011-12-09 Thread Alek Kowalczyk
Resolved the bug by switching from mplayer 2:1.0~rc4.dfsg1+svn33713-1 to
mplayer2 2.0-134-g84d8671-2build1 .
Both are available in oneiric repository.
Possibly it is a packaging issue - smplayer should require mplayer2 while it
requires any mplayer version.

[Bug 889558] [NEW] Smplayer hangs after starting a movie while movie is playing

2011-11-12 Thread Alek Kowalczyk
Public bug reported:

Steps to reproduce:
1. Start Ubuntu 11.10 with Unity (3d) desktop
2. Start smplayer. Everything seem to work fine (toolbar buttons, menu, etc)
3. Load any movie and start it

Results:
The movie starts playing and plays fine. But smplayer controls do not respond
(including controls like: movie and volume sliders, start/stop/fast-forward,
subtitles and audio selection, full screen). If trying to click several times,
smplayer grays out and Ubuntu tells me it's unresponsive. The movie still plays
fine.
Error is reproducible 100%, with all GUIs (default, minigui and mpcgui). Tried
with several video drivers (like gl, gl-ATI, x11), with several movie files.

'smplayer' shows SMPlayer v. 0.6.9 (SVN r3447).
'apt-cache policy smplayer' shows
smplayer:

[Bug 728161] Re: Laptop subwoofer is not functional on ASUS G73JH

2011-05-15 Thread alek
I have found now a workaround, which solves subwoofer problem under
ubuntu 10.10. Here is what I did:

1. installed David Henningssons alsa-hda-diwic-asus-g73jh-
dkms_1.0.23.diwic_all.deb package

(thanks David)

see
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/728161/comments/5

Download: http://people.canonical.com/~diwic/temp/alsa-hda-diwic-asus-
g73jh-dkms_1.0.23.diwic_all.deb

2. opened file /etc/pulse/daemon.conf and replaced

a) entry

; enable-lfe-remixing = no

with

enable-lfe-remixing = yes

and
b) entry

; default-sample-channels = 2

with

default-sample-channels = 6

3. opened file /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf and added

options snd-hda-intel model=auto

at the end of this file

4. opened file /etc/modules and added

snd-hda-intel model=auto

at the end of this file

5. Then I rebooted laptop.

Subwoofer is now working. I have the same rich, full sound as under
Windows.

Unforunately above mentioned solution ist not working under ubuntu 11.04

[Bug 728161] Re: Laptop subwoofer is not functional on ASUS G73JH

2011-05-15 Thread alek
I have meanwhile also found a workaround for ubuntu 11.04

1. installed linux-alsa-driver from repository ppa:ubuntu-audio-dev/ppa
see
http://ppa.launchpad.net/ubuntu-audio-dev/ppa/ubuntu/pool/main/l/linux-alsa-driver-modules-2.6.38/

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ubuntu-audio-dev/ppa
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install linux-alsa-driver-modules-$(uname -r)

note:
at the moment there are only packages for kernel 2.6.38-8 available

2. opened file /etc/pulse/daemon.conf and replaced

a) entry

; enable-lfe-remixing = no

with

enable-lfe-remixing = yes

and
b) entry

; default-sample-channels = 2

with

default-sample-channels = 6

3. opened file /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf and added

options snd-hda-intel model=basic

at the end of this file

4. opened file /etc/modules and added

snd-hda-intel model=basic

at the end of this file

5. Then I rebooted laptop.

Subwoofer is now working unter ubuntu 11.04 (with same rich, full sound
as under Windows).

[Bug 748896] [NEW] After-crash restore displays import from text for all documents if one of the documents to restore is CSV

2011-04-03 Thread Alek Kowalczyk
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: libreoffice

Steps to reporoduce
1. Open some documents (presentations, docs, spreadsheet)
2. Open some CSV file, save it still as CSV, edit in some way
3. Work work work with your documents until libreoffice crashes (this step
might require longer time)
4. Run libreoffice again
5. Choose to restore all the files

Expected results:
Documents, Presentations and Spreadsheets should be imported, while Import
from CSV text window should be displayed only for CSV file

Actual results:
Import from CSV text offers to import text from Documents, Presentations and
Spreadsheets. It displays ZIP binary contents of the files in the preview. This
is confusing and a bit stressing (was my work lost or not?!), although minor
issue: after clicking Cancel in the CSV text import dialog, the Documents,
Presentations and Spreadsheets are properly restored.

[Bug 418852] Re: [Dell Inc. Vostro 1320] suspend/resume failure [non-free: nvidia]

2009-10-06 Thread Alek Chmyr
Here possibly present old problem with legacy keyboard support. If you
have access by ssh, simply restart psmouse module.

# sudo rmmod psmouse sudo modprobe psmouse

Trick to fix this - disable feature legacy keyboard support in BIOS, I
didn't did that yet and really don't know if such option present. I
blacklisted psmouse to get working gdm prompt and then manually do
modprobe.

Didnt upgraded to Karmic.

I confirm on Radeon 3200 with fglrx and compiz on Jaunty.
Switching user after longer time of computer inactivity sometimes (30%
reproducibility?) renders screen black.
There is a slight difference because I can see the mouse cursor and I can
switch to text console and kill -9 compiz.real process. After killing compiz
everything works fine.

[Bug 135670] linux-image-2.6.22-10-generic suspend to ram (S3) issue (Samsung Q1 ultra)

2007-08-29 Thread alek du
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: linux-source-2.6.22

On Samsung Q1 ultra, the linux-image-2.6.22-10-generic S3 (suspend to
ram) has a very interesting phenomenon: it seems lose OS timer
interrupts and needs external interrupts to keep kernel running.

I installed pm-utils and vbetool, used: pm-suspend --quirk-vbestate-
restore to enter S3, after that, system went sleep, after triggered
power button, system seemed to recovery, but I needed keep pressing Q1's
keyboard to trigger system scheduling. For example, ran a top program
in the console, the top would keep idle until I press anykey, and the
manner would be press one time, top run one time. Even for ls -al, I
needed to press key extra times to let it go. Beside key pressing, other
events like plug in/out power adaptor could trigger system too.

In one short sentence, the world was now triggered by external
interrupts.

[Bug 133557] Re: usplash could not run on Ubuntu UME flavored kernel

2007-08-27 Thread alek du
Matthew and Amit,

Updates from my test, I guess this issue was root caused:

After one half day tracing and testing, I found actually this issue was
caused by another config option CONFIG_VM86 not setting. usplash
source code ~/svgalib/src/lrmi.c (Linux real mode interface) with entry
function line 587:run_vm86() need this kernel option to call 16bit VGA
bios code to initialize video cards. Without this option, the video card
will not be set to desired mode through VGA bios.

I also tested, when remove CONFIG_VM86, Moblin kernel fell in same case
of UME kernel.

My apology for the previous FB_VESA misleading.

[Bug 134626] Intel Poulsbo hda driver was not correctly built

2007-08-24 Thread alek du
Public bug reported:

The Intel Poulsbo HDA patches were pulled in Ubuntu gutsy kernel tree
already, while the snd-hda-intel module was not created their, instead,
linux-ubuntu-modules did the creation job. But the intel HDA kernel
driver inside was not patched with Poulsbo HDA patches at all. So
current HDA does not work if install linux-image-ume and linux-ubuntu-
modules-ume on Crown-beach or Poulsbo VV platform.

I guess we need either move the Poulsbo HDA patches to linux-ubuntu-
modules package or let linux-image-ume to create snd-hda-intel module.

By default Ubuntu linux-generic kernel already set CONFIG_FB_VESA=y, and
