[Bug 1160289] Re: Google earth search does not zoom onto a location

2020-02-09 Thread Alessander Botti Benevides
I confirm that Cip Man's solution works for Ubuntu 19.04 in pt-br.
The following command solved the problem:

LC_NUMERIC=en_EN google-earth-pro

Since updates in Google Earth may change its wrapper script (what would
make the bug reappear), instead of patching the script, I changed the
related .desktop file by:

1. Copying the root version of google-earth-pro.desktop to a local
place:

cp /usr/share/applications/google-earth-pro.desktop
~/.local/share/applications/google-earth-pro.desktop

2. Making the new google-earth-pro.desktop executable:

chmod +x ~/.local/share/applications/google-earth-pro.desktop

3. Opening it in a text editor:

xdg-open ~/.local/share/applications/google-earth-pro.desktop

3.1. Changing the line
Exec=/opt/google/earth/pro/google-earth-pro %f

To
Exec=env LC_NUMERIC=en_EN /opt/google/earth/pro/google-earth-pro %f

3.2 Removing the following line, which seems to be ill-formed:
MultipleArgs=false

4. Registering the new .desktop file:

desktop-file-install --dir=~/.local/share/applications/ --rebuild-mime-
info-cache ~/.local/share/applications/google-earth-pro.desktop

update-desktop-database ~/.local/share/applications/

Now, GNOME Shell should open an instance of Google Earth where this
issue is solved.

Switching to ibus solved the problem.

This also fixed a problem of getting overlaid text when scrolling the

[Bug 1698656] Re: navigation panel icons missing on standard install of 17.04

2018-01-06 Thread Alessander Botti Benevides
As a workaround, what worked for me was:

$ sudo apt install systemsettings kde-config-gtk-style kde-config-gtk-
style-preview oxygen-icon-theme

* systemsettings for the app systemsettings5;

* kde-config-gtk-style enables the Appearance module in systemsettings5;

* kde-config-gtk-style-preview allows previewing the themes without
restarting the GTK applications;

* oxygen-icon-theme is an alternative theme to use in KDE applications.

Then, run systemsettings5, click on Application Style, select Oxygen as
a Fallback theme, click on Apply.

[Bug 1264602] Re: Fail to launch Terminator

2016-04-15 Thread Alessander Botti Benevides
This bug occurs when calling Terminator from the gnome-terminal. It does
not prevents Terminator from starting.

1. I am using Terminator 0.98 (from ppa:gnome-terminator on Ubuntu
14.04) and I set the confirmed-0.98 tag.

2. I could reproduce with both "terminator -u -g temp_config" and
"terminator -g temp_config", though -g is not listed as an option by
"man terminator".

3. I could reproduce it in a guest account.

4. Call terminator from gnome-terminal.

5.1.
* distro: Ubuntu 14.04;
* desktop environment: the default one (Unity);
* language: pt-br (Brazilian Portuguese);
* how can I check the versions of libvte, gtk, pango and cairo?
5.2. Single screen;
5.3. Nope. Could you can suggest any for me to check?

6. The issue also happens with "terminator -g temp_config", though -g
is not listed as an option by "man terminator".

7. Please see the attached file.

P.S.: As an unrelated comment, I would suggest the Terminator team to
include an explicit advice in the manual stating that one have to
activate DBus server in the preferences of Terminator in order for the
flag --new-tab to work.

Thanks,
Alessander

[Bug 911082] Re: meta-release can be corrupted on network error

2013-05-22 Thread Alessander Botti Benevides
I had the same issue for upgrading Kubuntu 12.10 to 13.04. However, my previous
solution did not work. Following a hint given on [1], I did
$ export DEBUG_UPDATE_MANAGER=true
$ do-release-upgrade -c
and noticed the line:
reading file '/home/username/.cache/update-manager-core/meta-release'

So, I removed '/home/username/.cache/update-manager-core/meta-release' and did
do-release-upgrade -c again and it fixed both
/home/username/.cache/update-manager-core/meta-release and
/var/lib/update-manager/meta-release.

[Bug 907326] Re: Upgrade notifications vanished

2011-12-30 Thread Alessander Botti Benevides
** Description changed:

  Hi,

  I am on a Kubuntu 11.04 64 bit. My problem is that the upgrade
  notifications for 11.10 are gone. They appeared for a while and suddenly
- vanished. Also, it is not possible to upgrade by means of sudo do-
- release-upgrade. Therefore, no online upgrade is possible.

- Can you help me? I have no idea of the reason of this problem.
+ P.S.: I was able to upgrade by the command do-release-upgrade. Why
+ do-release-upgrade works while sudo do-release-upgrade does not? It
+ took a while for me to try do-release-upgrade and see that the root
+ password would be asked later. Moreover, with the flags -c -d or -c
+ -p, the sudo command does not seems to affect the result of do-
+ release-upgrade.
+
+ I know that sudo do-release-upgrade -c -d returned Run 'do-release-
+ upgrade' to upgrade to it. instead of Run 'sudo do-release-upgrade' to
+ upgrade to it.. However, IMHO, it makes more sense to run it with
+ sudo. Maybe, this can be considered an usability problem of do-
+ release-upgrade.

  Thanks,
  Alessander
