[Bug 72033] Can't transfer files from mobile to pc via Bluetooth in Gnome

2006-11-16 Thread Alessandro Colaci
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-bluetooth

Referring to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bluetooth/TestPlan

Tried to send an image from mobile to pc, the transfer stucks at 0% and
then fails. No file transfered. This occurs only with Gnome, with KDE
all works perfectly in the two directions.

- Mobile model: Samsung Z140-V
- Laptop: Asus M6Ne
- Dongle model: D-Link DBT-120 (from lsusb command: Bus 002 Device 004: ID

[Bug 71337] gnome-power-manager issues with HAL reports on Asus M6Ne

2006-11-11 Thread Alessandro Colaci
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: hal

- MY LAPTOP:
ASUSTeK Computer Inc.
M6Ne
1.0

- THE ISSUE:
Gnome power manager applet (the default one, configurable by the power
management entry in the Gnome Preferences) is not fully working, since it
seems faded out. If I add the other battery applet to the panel (from right
click on the panel add to panel systemhardware battery charge
monitor), I get this error message:

Can't access ACPI events in /var/run/acpi.socket! Make sure the ACPI
subsystem is working and the acpid daemon is running.

If I run:

$ sudo /etc/init.d/acpid start
 * Loading ACPI modules... [ ok ]
 * Starting ACPI services... acpid: can't open /proc/acpi/event: Device or
resource busy

$ sudo fuser -v /proc/acpi/event

 USER PID ACCESS COMMAND
/proc/acpi/event: haldaemon 4104 f hald-addon-acpi

Both the applets don't recognize when the laptop is running on battery
and always show a AC plug icon.

I suppose the problem is HAL, in bug #64838 you can see another report. Related
bugs are bug #64387 and bug #64646

Forgot to say that the applet which gives me that message is the one the
user can add to the panel and not the default one (I think there two
applets). Moreover the default one is configurable by the power
management entry in the Gnome preferences (don't know its names) and is
not fully working, since seems faded out.

[Bug 71279] I can't get Asus M6Ne special keys to work

Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: acpi

Ubuntu Edgy (Gnome) on a laptop:

ASUSTeK Computer Inc.
M6Ne
1.0

I followed https://wiki.ubuntu.com/LaptopTestingTeam/HotkeyResearch but
I can't get no keycodes with any of the 3 methods (volume up/down/mute
with 'Fn+special key' or enable/disable touchpad).

Also read https://wiki.ubuntu.com/LaptopTesting/Keycodes and couldn't
get keycodes neither with 'xev' command nor with 'tail -f
/var/log/kern.log'.

I remember I got those keys to work with Kubuntu Dapper (KDE), so I figure an
acpi regression.

[Bug 66565] [Edgy] Please, don't include it in next stable release

2006-10-17 Thread Alessandro Colaci
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: kde-guidance-powermanager

The new KDE power manager applet is still _very_young_and_buggy_, I
think it needs a bit more developping. I get many issues with that.

bug #64387
bug #64646
bug #64838

Well, my laptop might be the issue, but if I remove kde-guidance-
powermanager and install either klpatop and kpowersave, my KDE fonts are
weirdly smaller and some control center's section is unusable (see point

As in previous bug #64387, I will add that:

1) KDE fonts are smaller, though font settings aren't changed (I checked
in control center). I use default fonts at size 9 and antialiasing with

2) Some functionalities of Control Center are unreachable or unusable.
For example, if I go to System Services, I get this message:

The module System Services could not be loaded.

The diagnostic is:

Possible reasons:

- an error occurred during your last KDE upgrade leaving an orphaned control
module
- you have old third party module lying around.

[Bug 64387] Re: [Edgy] powersaved and kpowersave -issues under KDE

2006-10-17 Thread Alessandro Colaci
Issues 1. and 3. are completely unrelated, this is why
they were probably addressed by other updates.

I reinstalled kpowersave and the 3 issues came back all together, so
they seem correlated either to the lack of kde-guidance-powermanager or
to the presence of kpowersave (or klaptop). So issue 1 and 3 are no more
fixed.

what does not enabled mean?
I don't remember the behavior when I filed the bug (some week ago). Now kernel
speed-step module is loaded but 'performance' is the only
scaling_available_governor

$ cat /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/scaling_available_governors

So, using this power manager, I will never get my laptop suspended by

There is also no battery reported, so this explains why the other part
 is shaded as well.

I think this is caused either by ACPI implementation or it is HAL bug.
We cannot do much in power-manager unless HAL properly reports battery

I think it is the default IP (convention of IANA) released to an active

I'll let you know, since the issue seems to me a stocastic process,
not always the network goes slowly.

[Bug 63137] [edgy] TTY blank whith 'vga=791' and strange keyboard behaviour

2006-09-30 Thread Alessandro Colaci
Public bug reported:

Kubuntu Edgy current, Asus M6742 laptop, ATI mobility radeon 9700.

1) I noted that if I pass to the kernel, at boot, the parameter
'vga=791', then I can't switch to TTY with ctrl-alt-F1 because screen is
blank. If I don't pass that parameter, that doesn't happen and I can get
TTY (of course, in a resolution not fitting my video).

2) Also I noted that with that paramater active the boot-splash looks
bad, not brilliant, and it isn't centered, but shifted to the right edge
of the video. Note that I changed my /etc/usplash.conf to my correct
resolution (1280x800) and updated initramfs (sudo update-initramfs -u)

3) Moreover, with that parameter, under KDE, keyboard is unusable, since
is stuck to random character (also see bug #63024).

Please, tell me if you need some log (well, if I'm able to get it with my
keyboard...).

2006-09-30 Thread Alessandro Colaci
The issue with the framebuffer should be fixed with new
usplash-version, which is already available in repositories. (was:
 bug #61718)

Well, I'll try again, didn't find that bug.

Note: vga=791 is setting up a fb with 1024x768, so it can't
 display an 1280x800 usplash correctly.

I know, but didn't find something fitting better.

Concerning the keyboard issue: is it exactly the same like the bug
 mentioned?

Yes, it's quite similar, but since that was a Dapper's problem, I
thought it was better filing another one, sorry.

[Bug 63137] Re: [edgy] TTY blank whith 'vga=791' and strange keyboard behaviour

2006-09-30 Thread Alessandro Colaci
Ok, I confirm the keyboard's bug.

When no vga=791 (or any other) is passed to the kernel at boot, all is good
and I can type normally (though I have an incorrect frame buffer resolution).
When that parameter is passed, after I got KDE running, if I open a terminal
and type a character, this is repeated untill a new one is typed. After that,
the keyboard is unusable and the whole desktop environment behaves as if some
character is typed while I use the mouse.

May this bug be related to the vga parameter or not?

[Bug 63137] Re: [edgy] TTY blank whith 'vga=791' and strange keyboard behaviour

2006-09-30 Thread Alessandro Colaci
Here it is /var/log/syslog.

Note that I extracted a part of the file and divided it with a gap: as
you see, the first part is related to the boot with the vga=791
parameter, the second one is related to a normal boot.
