should try the latest and greatest Flash plugin first.

[Bug 308978] Re: Alternate keyboard layout doesn't works after a suspend

2010-04-06 Thread Alex Kaprano ff
I see exactly this bug on updated Karmic. No USB keyboards, nothing.
Simple Dell Latitude D420 laptop with two keyboard layouts, hibernate,
then resume and it starts to act as if there're three layouts: my two
Eng and Rus plus "???". Changing anything in gnome-keyboard-properties
fixes the problem up until the next hibernate.

Too bad I cannot yet upgrade to Lucid on the laptop. My big desktop
didn't have this problem with Karmic and doesn't with Lucid.

[Bug 552642] [NEW] Mouse pointer themes do not work after Lucid upgrade

2010-03-31 Thread Alex Kaprano ff
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-control-center

After recent upgrade in Lucid (29-31 March 2010) my mouse pointer
reverted to default and I cannot change it back to large whiteglass.
Changing mouse pointer properties in my theme in gnome-appearance-
preferences does nothing. Before the upgrade (in Intrepid and earlier
Lucid) the pointer changed right in place, in real time. I tried
rebooting after changing pointer settings to no avail.

Mouse pointer settings work fine in a fresh guest session though so I
presume settings format was changed and I am stuck with the old one or
something.

Can anybody help? The default mouse pointer is too small for me, I
hardly see it. I always use the largest one.

[Bug 543823] Re: gnome-typing-monitor shows always broken icon in notification area

2010-03-28 Thread Alex Kaprano ff
It turned out this has everything to do with indicator applet vs.
notification area duality in Lucid. So the way to see the bug is:

1) Remove indicator applet from gnome-panel
2) Add notification area to gnome-panel (only if it's not already there)

gnome-typing-monitor shows the correct icon in indicator and fails to in
notification area. This should be trivial to fix because everything
worked ok in Karmic.

Also, everything looks very different with black window decorations and
such. Switching my main session to Ambience theme didn't help.

3. .xsession-errors has a lot of messages. Most of them are not relevant

[Bug 256573] [NEW] Large mouse cursor with alpha transparency distorts window decoration when using compiz

2008-08-10 Thread Alex Kaprano ff
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: compiz-gnome

This is Ubuntu 8.04.1. When you choose to use the largest available
mouse cursor size AND one of two standard cursors with alpha blending
you get distortions in window decoration (title bars etc.) I can
personally confirm this bug on NVidia 6600, 8800, 9600 GSO, 8400, Intel
i910, Intel G33, AMD Ati Radeon 3450. This probabaly means that it's not
a driver bug. Also, I see this bug in all Ubuntu versions starting from
6.06 with a manually installed Beryl.

I attach a video of these effects.

Exact steps to reproduce:
1. Have compiz configured.
2. Enable "wobbly windows" plugin (System -> Preferences -> Appearance ->
Visual Effects -> Extra). This is not required but will demonstrate the bug
more easily.
3. Choose a big transparent cursor in default theme
  a) System -> Preferences -> Appearance -> Theme,
  b) choose "Human"
  c) then press "Customize..." button
  d) go to Pointer tab and choose "whiteglass" or "redglass", then move the
"Size" slider all the way to the right ("Large").
4. Log out and log in back to gnome.
5. Try to move or resize some windows.

[Bug 183317] [regression] Resume broken after last update to Intel video driver

2008-01-15 Thread Alex Kaprano ff
Public bug reported:

Latest update to Intel driver has broken resuming after suspend on my
Dell D420 (G945 chipset).

When I open the lid of the laptop I see strange yellow on black texmode
label in the upper left corner of the screen which reads "Linu" (4
letters). The box is not responding to anything.

It all worked fine before the new year, on 28.12.2007, then there was an
update to Intel video driver and voila.

[Bug 175275] Clock goes back one hour after resume

2007-12-10 Thread Alex Kaprano ff
Public bug reported:

I've got a Dell D420 with regularly updated Gutsy and a week or two ago
it started to lag in time. Now, after each resume the clock goes back
one time.

That's probably has something to do with DST, although the switch to DST
was 1.5 months ago.

Manual syncing to NNTP servers fixes the problem.

[Bug 175075] [compiz] Mouse cursor leaves trails when clicking or dragging

2007-12-09 Thread Alex Kaprano ff
Public bug reported:

Clicking or dragging something with compiz enabled distorts the image in
the big square under the mouse. This distortions leave trail marks when
I move away my mouse, sometimes the image is restored to what it was
before the click.

I saw this in Beryl on Dapper, now I confirm the same bug on Gutsy with
NVidia 6600, 8800 and Intel i910 video cards.

I should add I use huge mouse cursors (from a standard theme), but the
problem does not go away when I switch back to small.

[Bug 150178] The Log Out button hangs desktop

2007-10-07 Thread Alex Kaprano ff
Public bug reported:

In very fresh Gutsy I see this strange thing: when I click the red Log
Out button on the top Gnome menu bar the desktop hangs -- window with
log out options does not appear and I cannot click anywhere. The only
way out is Ctrl-Alt-Backspace to kill xorg and return to gdm.

I have desktop effects switched off.

2007-09-25 Thread Alex Kaprano ff
I updated 5 hours ago and the problem changed. When I press my terminal
keyboard shortcut I get a global message box with empty title saying
(translated from Russian) "Terminal command is not defined".

I made sure I set the right shortcut in "Keyboard Shortcuts" settings
applet. Also, I have desktop effects switched off.
