[Bug 855169] [NEW] shared-color-targets is missing, calibration doens't work
Public bug reported: The shared-color-targets package isn't available in Ubuntu, so when GNOME Color Manager attempts to install it to make profiling cameras and scanners possible, the process simply fails. Explanation: to profile a camera or a scanner you need a capture of a reflective calibration target which is, essentially, a cardboard with color patches printed on it. For each type of a target you need a text file that describes this target so that calibration/profiling software knows what and where to look for when reading the captured image. The shared-color-targets is a collection of such files. Solution: provide shared-color-targets package, available at http://people.freedesktop.org/~hughsient/releases/. This is wrong, because cameras like Canon Digital Rebel XT (350D) or Nikon D70 are not hi-end, they are prosumer class digital still cameras. Hi-end as a term overall is unlikely applicable to DSLRs. ufraw has lots of preprocessing options which seem to duplicate gimp's features. Unfortunately, they are necessary because its 8-bit limitation would cause major quality problems. This is wrong as well. There are only two settings that somehow duplicate GIMP's functionality: saturation handle and curves. And, again, UFRaw handles several types of TRC curves, whil GIMP supports only its own curves.
