[Bug 2064096] Re: Services fail to start in noble deployed with TPM+FDE
We are seeing this issue with Ubuntu Core 24 too, for instance when running logger from a confined snap. The workaround of adding "attach_disonnected attach_disconnected.path=/run/" does work as well. As an interesting data point, I have done some experiments and I see that using systemd 253.5-1ubuntu1 (an older version that was at some point in noble) with kernel 6.8 does not show the issue, while systemd 255.4-1ubuntu8 with kernel 6.8 triggers it. So some change in systemd triggers this. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2064096 Title: Services fail to start in noble deployed with TPM+FDE To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/apparmor/+bug/2064096/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 2058976] Re: Configuration files for networkd are created when NetworkManager is the default renderer
To be clear, that carrier is set to "failed" when retriggering uevents is not the main problem. The main problem is that after 5-10 minutes, networkd silently takes control again of the ethernet interface. The retriggering of uevents and the reaction on the networkd side is just an indication that it still cares about the interface. Maybe a better way to check if the issue is around without having to wait for minutes would be to look at /run/systemd/netif/links/* and check if the content still references the removed .network files. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2058976 Title: Configuration files for networkd are created when NetworkManager is the default renderer To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/netplan/+bug/2058976/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1968111] Re: uc22 rpi3 ethernet getting renamed on every boot
After debugging the driver, it looked like it was not able to find the device tree node with the MAC address, and was therefore assigning a random MAC address. Further debugging showed that the device was actually being detected as an RPi3b instead of an RPi3b+: $ cat /proc/device-tree/compatible raspberrypi,3-model-b\0brcm,bcm2837\0 While in rpi jammy classic images you see: $ cat /proc/device-tree/compatible raspberrypi,3-model-b-plus\0brcm,bcm2837\0 Even though all firmware and device trees are the same. The only difference was that in UC22 we set os_prefix [1] to ask the firmware to load files from a different folder. After copying to the root of the seed partition kernel, initrd, device trees, and cmdline.txt files, I removed the os_prefix and rebooted. After that, an RPi3b+ is properly detected and the MAC has a fixed address. So, it turns out that this is a firmware bug in the implementation of os_prefix. [Bug 1948476] [NEW] [SRU] Allow target units to fail
Public bug reported: [Impact] A systemd regression in focal made it think that target units cannot fail, which produced warnings like: emergency.target: Requested dependency OnFailure=reboot.target ignored (target units cannot fail). So the OnFailure settings are ignored for targets (see https://github.com/snapcore/core-initrd/issues/33 for details). Upstream fixed the issue in v246: https://github.com/systemd/systemd/commit/94d1ddbd7cd15b1073757eb5ae0645c83f0b414c [Test Plan] Test on a UC system and check that the above warnings are not shown anymore. Check that when a target service type fails, the OnFailure setting is used and the mentioned service is run. [Where problems could occur] Issues might happen if some target has an OnFailure setting that was never run in the past because of this bug, and the behavior is not really right because it was never tested. However, OnFailure is not used that much on 20.04 in target services: /lib/systemd $ find . -name \*.target | xargs grep OnFailure /lib/systemd $ /etc/systemd $ find . -name \*.target | xargs grep OnFailure /etc/systemd $ I've seen it only in emergency.target for UC20. Well, I have seen grief caused by shared libraries pulling too many dependencies or by shared libraries updates that break applications even though in theory the ABI compatibility has been kept. Also, there is actually a trend towards static compilation (golang, rust), so I do not think I'm the only one seeing this. But that is not really relevant. There are valid uses of static libraries, and the developers should have the option to choose between shared and static. The patch does not prevent using shared libraries, it just gives more options to application developers. > > And I don't really buy the need to save space when talking about a 137328 > bytes shared lib (taken from the last build of graphite2 in Sid, that's the > size of the .so). > It feels like you are building some kind to system image that you'd then > flash into some embedded thingy. Nobody said this was about saving space. libgraphite was being pulled as many other dependencies and I wanted to have all statically compiled instead of some static, some dynamic. Said this, I agree in not carrying a delta between Debian and Ubuntu as this library does not pull additional dependencies and is small, so additional maintenance is not worth the effort. > > On Wed, 29 Sep 2021, 1:06 pm Sebastien Bacher, <1943...@bugs.launchpad.net> > wrote: > > > Debian wontfixed the change so it means we will need to carry a delta at > > the cost of increased workload from our team if we take the change. [Bug 1943564] [NEW] [SRU] Backport xrt 202020.2.8.743-0ubuntu1 to focal
Public bug reported: [Impact] Some problems have been detected in the xrt package that need to be fixed: a missing configuration file (LP: #1939613) and a problem with reading the AIE counter that has been fixed upstream. Additionally, the packages for amd64 are not really tested and won't be, so it is preferable to remove from the build. [Test Plan] To test, install the xrt package on a ZCU or Kria platform. The command $ sudo xbutil scan should detect a valid card in the system. Also, the file "/etc/OpenCL/vendor/xilinx.icd" should exist now. [Where problems could occur] There is some potential for regression, although the changes are minor. The package will disappear from amd64 arch, but anyway it was not really working and it is preferable to remove it rather than leaving people with a not working binary around. [Other Info] Xilinx expects to have their own package feed for xrt/amd64, so there will be an alternative for that arch quite soon. ** Affects: xrt (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1943564 Title: [SRU] Backport xrt 202020.2.8.743-0ubuntu1 to focal To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xrt/+bug/1943564/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

We would like to have it backported to 20.04 (focal), to allow support of the Xilinx Kria platform for that release. There should be no effect on users as the package does not exist yet on focal. [Bug 1931987] [NEW] [SRU] Creating FIT images is not supported
Public bug reported: [Impact] flash-kernel does currently not support creating FIT images. There are some platforms where this is preferred, for instance for the Kria SOM platform. This have been just fixed in flash-kernel 3.104ubuntu4 in impish (dev) (LP: #1931278), and we would like this ported back to hirsute/focal to support Kria SOM platform in focal. [Test Plan] For testing, a Kria SOM device is needed. By install flash-kernel with the fix, a file in path /boot/firmware/image.fit will be created, and the system should be able to boot. [Where problems could occur] The change adds new functionality which should not interfere with the previous one. However, there is some small potential for a regression happening. If that is the case, some hardware platforms that use flash- kernel might not be able to update the bootloader or will break it, making the system unable to boot. [Bug 1914062] Re: NetworkManager-wait-online.service in 1.28.0-2ubuntu1 fails to start in LXC
Just FTR, note that the change in NM upstream was needed so the network- manager snap was able to correctly detect if udevd is running. We currently build the snap from the source package + some patches including this one. But, the long term target is to be able to create the snap by simply staging the network-manager debs. Said this, the code is in the next minor release (2.32, while focal has 2.31), which has been running groovy for a while. Also, apparently there is a 2.31 patch for groovy, before it moved to 2.32: https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=964141 ** Affects: glibc (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: focal rls-ff-incoming -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1914044 Title: gstreamer fails with "cannot allocate memory in static TLS block" error on aarch64 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/glibc/+bug/1914044/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1862279] Re: arm64 Secure Boot fails w/ "error: cannot load image."
After working on LP: #1892770, I think that this is the same problem. grub in focal/arm64 is trying to use EFI boot services to start the kernel, after having verified the kernel with the shim. EFI does not have access to the cert in the shim so it refuses to load the kernel. There is a workaround which is adding Canonical Master key to the EFI DB, so EFI can actually verify the kernel. Looking at "loader/arm64/linux.c" in the sources seems to validate this. In focal [1], grub_arch_efi_linux_boot_image() calls EFI boot services b->load_image() and b->start_image() which is the same in upstream code. However, in disco [2] the EFI boot services are not used - the sequence is grub_armxx_efi_linux_boot_image() -> grub_efi_linux_boot() -> calls directly an address in the loaded kernel. The patch that makes the change in disco is debian/patches/linuxefi_load_arm_with_sb.patch (https://github.com/rhboot/grub2/commit/2786ab864cf00c15123320671f653e9a36ba12b4). [Bug 1882894] [NEW] docker snap does not support custom apparmor profiles per container
Public bug reported: docker supports loading custom apparmor profiles that can be different for each container [1] by using the option "--security-opt apparmor=". However, this does not work with the docker snap because the docker snapd interface only allows sending signals to a profile named "docker- default" (the default profile for docker containers), so if the name of the profile is different, you cannot stop the container using the docker cli. You get denials when trying to send the kill signal to the container. Allowing the docker snap to handle custom apparmor profiles for the containers would allow further confinement of the payloads. [Bug 1881074] Re: Support btrfs when writable is converted to btrfs
Some comments on the debdiff: Use blkid -s TYPE "$writable_part" -o value instead of blkid -s TYPE "$writable_part" | awk '{print $2}' | grep -o '".*"' | tr -d '"' No need to redirect to >>$LOGFILE in resize_filesystem() which is already redirected when called. Also, you should not redirect to /dev/kmsg - I guess that was for debugging purposes. Is it really necessary to mount the partition to find out the filesystem usage? "btrfs filesystem show" apparently can work on devices according to [1]. But it also looks like btrfs commands are mostly used with mounted systems, so it is fine if you want to keep things like that. Finally, you will need to use copy_exec for btrfs and blkid to the fixtrtc hook to get them included in the initramfs (although maybe blkid comes from busybox in this case, not sure). Otherwise, looks good to me.
