[Bug 1843392] Re: [snap] smart card reader no longer works

2019-11-13 Thread Andreas Pokorny
I recently had to switch my company card and it now uses a newer version
so it get mis-identified by pcsc-lite from debian - but works fine in
the latest release of pcsc-lite. As companies like Atos seem to
frequently roll out new versions of their cards it would be nice if we
could have opensc (I assume this is also in use - not sure whether it is
client or server side) and pcsc-lite in a separate snap built from a
more recent source

[Bug 1843392] Re: [snap] smart card reader no longer works

2019-10-18 Thread Andreas Pokorny
My impression was that smart card readers are pretty common and it is
the smartcards that keep changing. So USB access to the smart card
devices class should be enough there.

Being able to add custom/newer pkcs smartcard support modules sounds
like a good idea.

I wonder if that could be something shared across applications? I.e.
Firefox / Opera or other Nodejs Desktop applications that reuse
chromium, will need something similar.

2019-09-25 Thread Andreas Pokorny
One more detail. I have two printer queues configured:

 HP-Officejet-Pro-8620: HP Officejet Pro 8620, driverless, cups-filters 1.25.4
 HP_Officejet_Pro_8620_794B2D_: HP Officejet Pro 8620, driverless, cups-filters
1.25.6

The crashes only happen with the second printer. Everything worked fine
when using the queue without the _794B2D_ suffix.

Prior versions were also affected. I initially suspected faulty
hardware, and for months did not care about the contents of the disks. I

At least with 4.12 the problem also occurred.

[Bug 1740309] [NEW] user space process hangs when reading partition table of disk

2017-12-27 Thread Andreas Pokorny
Public bug reported:

user space process as in parted or fdisk or update-grub2 that read partition

/dev/sda/ GPT disk with efi, swap and ubuntu artful partition
/dev/sdb old style partition table with one ext4 partition

I have added qtmir - because I think qtmir could make wiser decisions on
how to handle the error than the mir surface or key mapper.

  Causes:
The mir::input::KeyRepeatDispatcher is running inside the nested mirserver
even though there is another instance running inside the host server. A few
months ago qtmir used to replace the key repeater by replacing mirs
dispatcher. And key repeat is not disabled within the nested server. So both
the host and the nested server are producing repeat events.
- Now due to a logic error inside mirserver the key repeat dispatcher is not
hooked up to the input device hub when running inside the nested server. The
input device hub would tell the key repeater when devices get removed - i.e.
due to vt switching. So it never notices that the devices go away continues to
produce those events indefinitely.

+
+ This applies to all currently pressed buttons. I.e. you can open an edit
+ field and press 'w' while simultaneously pressing Ctrl+Alt+FX to switch
+ to another VT. On return 'w' will be repeated indefinitely.

contains more details, including versions of packages affected, stacktrace or
traceback, and individual crash reports.

+
+ It seems that the configuration change is requested just a moment before
+ the device gets removed. The change actions are serialized, depending on
+ where there memory of mir::input::DefaultDevice is allocated the
+ segfault either occurs inside the lambda or inside underlying
+ mir::input::LibInputDevice in the platform. The activities on input
+ dispatch device removal and reconfiguration are serialized inside the
+ input thread, so we just need to clean the action queue (or have
+ multiple queues) before removing the devices.

[Bug 1672956] Re: unity-system-compositor crashed with SIGSEGV in operator() () at ./src/server/input/default_device.cpp:108

2017-03-15 Thread Andreas Pokorny

The stack is the same as the other one, the timing is just slightly
different. So the crash just happens a bit later than that.

[Bug 1639745] Re: Mir GL clients never appear at all on VirtualBox

The root cause for this problem was fixed upstream and applied in the
ubuntu packages in virtualbox and the kernel (lp:1669807)

So since the patch is now in the virtualbox package it still needs to be
picked up by the next kernel update?

[Bug 1669807] Re: Allow Unity8 to run inside Virtualbox

2017-03-03 Thread Andreas Pokorny
I am not sure how close the ubuntu version of virtualbox is to the svn
trunk. I feared that even if it gets integrated soon it might take some
time until that patch is picked up. So since the change has no
dependencies towards other pieces of the virtualbox package, I thought
we could benefit from having another convenient VM working with unity8.

Maybe look again next week whether there is upstream activity?

[Bug 1669807] [NEW] Allow Unity8 to run inside Virtualbox

2017-03-03 Thread Andreas Pokorny
Public bug reported:

Vboxvideo lacks PRIME support. A patch has been sent upstream.

https://www.virtualbox.org/pipermail/vbox-dev/2017-March/014293.html

It may take some time until that hits the repository. I attached a patch
I tested on zesty and allows unity8 to run virtualbox.

[Bug 1668054] [NEW] install of grub failed using a zesty usb installer image from 20170213

2017-02-26 Thread Andreas Pokorny
Public bug reported:

In the installer I selected :
sda:
  1: / btrfs
  2: swap

sdb:
1: ext4 16.04 (previously used system parition UEFI)
  2: remove swap parition

sdc:
  windows 10 paritions

The system was booted in UEFI mode, the drive sda was previously used in
a laptop that booted with legacy BIOS mode. So there was a warning
during the installer that it might not be able to boot all images.

Then during install of grub there was an error, that I could not detect
in the install log.

[Bug 1664610] Re: qtubuntu sends wrong text as part of QKeyEvent

Mir either has to expose the xkb_state (which we currently do not - and
might be only on the server) or provide the keysym text directly with
the event.

Ok this needs clarification - the dialogs we are talking about are not
frozen in the current state of gdkmir, but not behaving correctly - they
should be modal but are not.

[Bug 1420334] Re: [enhancement] Missing client API for relative surface movement

2016-09-06 Thread Andreas Pokorny
Yes those branches are not related at all. Unless we expect each client
to create a fullscreen transparent/empty surface on every output.

Do we really want to support client side decorations?

If so we could have a look at xdg-shells way of doing it. When a window
drag should be started (because the client clicked on the client side
title bar) the client sends a request to move the window according to a
given input device. The compositor then either denies or takes over the
processing of the input events. I could not verify that, but I assume
that the compositor is in charge of ending the window drag.

If we expect the client to emit relative surface motion (in surface
coordinates - in the surface plane) we need to make sure that unity8
clients receive relative motion. The disadvantage of this would be two
or maybe one frame slower than the above.

[Bug 1588237] Re: inconsistent behaviour of the numblock

2016-07-04 Thread Andreas Pokorny
The described behavior matches the way keyboard mapping is handled
within mir right now. Unity8 configures keymaps for each client surface.
Each client surface then has its own independent key state. Key state
here means the set of active modifier keys, including toggles like Caps
Lock, Num Lock. So it depends on which client sees

Mir 0.24 will change this behavior. It will default to have a per
keyboard device key state tracked and updated inside a mir server like
Unity8. Thus Num Lock will stay active after you switch between
surfaces. BUT: For that to work Unity8 need to configure its own server
side per device keymaps (they only default to us). Additionally we still
allow client side per surface keymaps. As of now the solution inside of
lp:mir and the presumptive 0.24 would not be capable of transfering the
current toggle state of Caps Lock or Num Lock when switching to an
application with a client side keymap. We already identified that
problem, and I plan to address that soon. But it might not make it into
0.24

As a short term fix I suggest to switch unity8 to only use server side
keymaps with 0.24, until this last problem is also addressed.
