[Bug 207198] Re: Adobe Flash Player 9 and 10 displays CJK text incorrectly

2012-09-19 Thread Andrew Hawkins
@Yoshida-san:

Huh, that fixed the subtitle problem and removed the need for ttf-kochi-
mincho. I didn't have '/etc/fonts/conf.avail/69-language-selector-ja-
jp.conf' with Ubuntu 12.04 until now, though I followed all of the
directions for Japanese localization here:

[Bug 207198] Re: Adobe Flash Player 9 and 10 displays CJK text incorrectly

2012-09-17 Thread Andrew Hawkins
@Yoshida-san:

1) Before, if I opened any Flash videos with Japanese text (such as this
one:
http://www.ted.com/talks/lang/ja/rives_reinventing_the_encyclopedia_game.html),
the text would appear as small boxes with 'x' in them.

2) I'm on Ubuntu 12.04 64-bit, using Flash 11.2.

[Bug 207198] Re: Adobe Flash Player 9 and 10 displays CJK text incorrectly

2012-09-17 Thread Andrew Hawkins
I found a solution for the display of Japanese text that works on my
computer from this blog entry (Japanese):
http://blog.minawa.net/2011/10/hululinux.html

It seems that the Flash plugin refers to ttf-kochi-mincho, a font that
no longer is shipped with Ubuntu. Installing it will fix the display
issue instantly.

In a terminal, type:

sudo apt-get install ttf-kochi-mincho

Now, Kochi is a rather ugly font for a lot of people. Using a different
font requires a bit of hacking, you have to overwrite ttf-kochi-mincho
with something else. In this case we'll use Takao PGothic, one of the
default Japanese fonts in Ubuntu.

In a terminal, type:

sudo cp /usr/share/fonts/truetype/takao/TakaoPGothic.ttf
/usr/share/fonts/truetype/kochi/kochi-mincho-subst.ttf

You can replace 'TakaoPGothic.ttf' with any Japanese font you like.
Right now, I'm using one called 'Motoya L Cedar.'

[Bug 449287] [NEW] [karmic] network manager forgets WPA2 passkey

2009-10-12 Thread Andrew Hawkins
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: network-manager

I am using Karmic beta and a hidden WPA2-secured wireless network.
Sometimes network-manager will connect to the network after boot
automatically with no problems, other times it won't connect at all.
When I click on the network-manager icon and select Connect to Hidden
Wireless Network... I can see my network in the list. However, when I
select it, the passkey field is blank and greyed out, along with the
Connect button. In order to connect, I must create a new connection
and re-enter all of my network's information again.
