[Bug 263121] Re: ACPI Exception causes suspend-to-disk to fail

2009-01-25 Thread Andrew J. Montalenti
Hi Leann,

Unfortunately, I'm still running Hardy on this PC. I have been quite
busy lately and haven't had the time to upgrade. Once I upgrade to
Intrepid Ibex (by end of Feb.) I'll let you know. However, I doubt I'll
have the time to test out Jaunty for you -- sorry :-(

I've done something like that in the past. I'll give it a try this

[Bug 263121] Re: ACPI Exception causes suspend-to-disk to fail

2008-09-01 Thread Andrew J. Montalenti
Hi Leann,

I'd love to try out the 2.6.27 kernel, but could I try out the kernel
without doing a full Intrepid Ibex upgrade? In other words, is there a
linux-image-2.6.27-generic deb available that I could install on Hardy?

The reason I ask is that I've only seen this error occur twice in
approx. 2 months, and compared to the number of times I
suspend/hibernate (easily 3x a day), this makes it a relatively rare
bug. I would have to run this kernel on my existing system for a long
time to see if the behavior has gone away. Running a LiveCD won't cut
it.

Let me know.

[Bug 263121] [NEW] ACPI Exception causes suspend-to-disk to fail

2008-08-30 Thread Andrew J. Montalenti
Public bug reported:

occasionally been unable to reach the powerdown state. Instead, the
process would freeze and in my log I would see the following:

[Bug 29012] Re: Downloads dialog box is blank

2008-05-11 Thread Andrew J. Montalenti
I thought this was a bug with firefox 2/3 on Ubuntu hardy, but it turns
out it's a feature. You have to go to Edit Preferences Privacy and
check off Remember what I've downloaded for items to remain in FF's
download dialog. Somewhat counter-intuitive. Attaching screeny.

[Bug 129908] Re: NM cannot distinguish between two networks with the same SSID at all

2007-09-16 Thread Andrew J. Montalenti
I'd just like to confirm this bug. On my network, I have two APs -- one
is my router/gateway, and the other is a Linksys range extender. They
are both using the same SSID (since that's how range extenders work),
but depending where I am, one may have more strength than the other.

I can see this by using iwlist eth1 scan, and I can observe which AP my
card is using with iwconfig eth1, but it isn't always the case that NM
picks the one with the best strength. Instead, as a workaround, when I
notice that I'm losing signal on one, I killall NetworkManager and let
it reconnect to the stronger one.

As the OP stated, it would be nice for NM to distinguish between these
two APs, and show me two signal strengths -- one for each. Further,
there should be a way for me to lock onto one of them. For example, if
AP1 and AP2 are both at around 55% signal strength, I may prefer a
stable connection on one than bouncing around from one to another just
to grab a percent or two in strength. Perhaps NM already has this kind
of smarts built-in, not sure.

[Bug 137046] Message threading has bug with unrelated e-mails with same subject

2007-09-03 Thread Andrew J. Montalenti
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

I have three messages in my folder: messages 1, 2 and 3.

Message 1 has the subject Tomorrow and was sent to me and another
person.

Message 2 is a reply, with subject Re: Tomorrow and was also sent to
me and the original sender.

Message 3 is an e-mail written 5 months ago, also with the subject Re:
Tomorrow, also written to me, but the sender is not one of the senders
in Messages 1 or 2. Yet, Message 3 gets threaded with Messages 1 and 2.

I am attaching the messages which cause this behavior for me in a tar.gz
file. Clearly the threading code is broken for some edge case caused by
these messages.

Not really a matter of fair or not fair. This is clearly a rather nasty
bug that has gone unnoticed until now.

The developer of the Flash Linux plug-in seems to very knowledgeable in
the sound space. Might it make sense to notify him of this bug report
and its duplicates? His blog is here:

I'll send him an e-mail.

[Bug 104470] Re: firefox crashed -- libflashplayer.so

2007-05-27 Thread Andrew J. Montalenti
I think I've worked around this bug using the FIREFOX_DSP environmental
variable. You can edit /etc/firefox/firefoxrc and add

FIREFOX_DSP=aoss

This will use the Alsa-OSS DSP wrapper, which I know used to work nicely
for me back in Breezy days. Indeed, I haven't had a Flash-related crash
since setting this variable. I know there's still a deeper issue here,
but this may be useful information to others.

[Bug 58128] Re: my microphone doesn't work in my Intel Corporation 82801G (ICH7 Family)

I'm on a HP DV2000 laptop, which I think has the same sound hardware. I
