[Bug 319278] [NEW] Plugin Finder reports success even when it fails

2009-01-20 Thread Andrew Melo
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: mozilla-firefox

Using the alpha3 liveCD, the pluginfinder reports success when it fails
to install.

On the stock install, when visiting a page with flash, the plugin finder
suggests you add the multiverse repository. Hitting 'ok' brings up an
error dialog saying that it couldn't. Dismissing the dialog brings up
the completing the plugin finder service window which says the
flashplayer installation was successful.

Adding the repositories manually yields another error (about not being
able to find flashplugin-nonfree) and the same success window from the
plugin finder service.

[Bug 199140] Re: Network manager shows and connects to virtual interfaces

2008-12-22 Thread Andrew Melo
I have the same bug when trying to use hamachi. The hamachi client
assigns a static IP, but networkmanager tries to run dhclient on the
address which fails. The underlying interface is a tun device which gets
a new mac address each time, so saving settings to tell NM to ignore it
don't work. Putting the blacklisting line above helps.

[Bug 253819] [NEW] Flash consistently causes either a hard lock or a segfault

2008-07-31 Thread Andrew Melo
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: firefox

I don't know if this is more appropriate to post here, but browsing with
either flash 9 or flash 10 causes firefox to occasionally either vanish
with a segfault or lock hard. I have attached a debug log/backtrace to
help diagnose.

On a related note, a lot of the bug-posting tutorial doesn't match up
with firefox3.0 (specifically the *-dbg packages), so I didn't know how
to provide a lot of the other information that was asked for. If there's
something else that's needed, I can provide it though.

[Bug 239182] Re: segfualt in cairo_draw_with_xlib

2008-07-30 Thread Andrew Melo
@Conn
Sorry if I didn't articulate myself well, but I wasn't looking for support. I
was just trying to make sure I had the same combination of packages installed
so I could help diagnose the problem.

I'm on i386, and I was following a separate howto that suggested I
install nspluginwrapper to solve issues with pulse + flash.

Using the latest xulrunner from hardy-proposed and felix's PPA, I still
get a hard lock when viewing certain sites, it's not always repeatable,
however.

[Bug 248438] [NEW] M6 LY is corrupt/crashes after suspend/resume

2008-07-14 Thread Andrew Melo
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-ati

A recent (last month or two) driver update causes the M6 LY to behave
weirdly when suspending/resuming.

On resume, graphical errors pop up. Horizontal regions (I'd say 10-20
pixels long and 1 pixel high) begin to appear when regions are redrawn
(text in consoles scrolling/windows resizing). Additionally, regions
appear in some windows where (moving left to right and top to bottom)
the first 100 or so pixels are scrambled followed by a black region.
Resizing the windows makes the affected regions disappear, but they are
replaced by new glitches. It also seems like hardware mouse acceleration
is effected. The mouse moves with a .5sec refresh rate after restarting.

Eventually, the glitches get more and more common until the machine
locks hard (no ctrl+alt+backspace, caps lock key is unresponsive).

Xorg.log doesn't have any errors, so I'm at a loss to figure out where
to look. Looking at lspci -vv, it seems like there might be a problem
with the memory detection routines? There is only 16MB of video ram on
this machine, and 128MB is reported (region 0). If it was including AGP
memory, it would be in powers-of two and 116MB isn't.

Any suggestions? The attached log shows me booting, suspending/resuming
and switching to/from a VT. When I switched to the VT, nothing came up.
I tried upgrading my ati driver with a version from
https://launchpad.net/~tormodvolden/+archive , to no effect.

[Bug 183917] Re: Sound stops working in Firefox once other applications (Pidgin, Rhythmbox) have played sound

2008-05-31 Thread Andrew Melo
Would it be possible to have libflashsupport be a pre-requisite for
flashplayer-nonfree? I installed flashplayer through firefox, and it
didn't pull it along. Considering libflashsupport is required for
pulseaudio support (installing it fixed things for me) and 8.04 uses

[Bug 121203] Re: Ubuntu has stopped recognizing my ipod

2008-02-19 Thread Andrew Melo
@Henrik

I can confirm this too under Hardy. Under Gnome, the ipod shows up in
the desktop but neither rhythembox or Amarok (which is my default) show
up. Once I eject the ipod through nautilous, the partition is unmounted,
but the drive isn't ejected, I have to manually do that to get the Do
not disconnect window to show up.

when trying to force amarok to autodetect the devices, I get: No new
media devices were found. If you feel this is an error, ensure that the
DBUS and HAL daemons are running and KDE was built with support for
them. You can test this by running dcop kded mediamanager fullList in
a Konsole window.

I can also confirm this bug. I have a radeon M6 LY. 24bpp allows video
playback, but no 3d. 16BPP allows the opposite.

[Bug 139138] Re: [gutsy] flash plugin reported as installed when it actually failed

2007-10-24 Thread Andrew Melo
Sudhanshu-
We might be taking about different problems, the bug I ran into was that
flashplugin-nonfree wasn't installed at all. Then, when firefox asked to
install it, the installer bombed out because of a bug (I think because when I
installed, I didn't have an internet connection, so there were no repositories
configured that had flashplugin-nonfree (many were commented out)). However,
firefox misread the installer return value and said the installation was
successful when it actually failed.

Your method will work fine, but there might be problems down the line if
another program tries to reinstall flashplugin-nonfree. I don't know if
the install script is smart enough to remove the old libraries before
installing. If so, you might run into conflicts.

[Bug 153368] Re: [gutsy] dhclient isn't executed

2007-10-17 Thread Andrew Melo
Attached is my /var/log/syslog I set the interfaces to roaming mode and
rebooted. I then had to manually input the essid I wanted in the applet
to be able to send this out.

Also, I looked at /etc/network/interfaces and only the loopback
interface was mentioned. Additionally, when I tried to save everything
is roaming as one of the profiles in the applet, when I reopened the
applet, it wasn't selected in the location dropdown-box in the top. I
don't know if that's a separate bug, or if it can help you troubleshoot
the problem

[Bug 153368] [gutsy] dhclient isn't executed

2007-10-16 Thread Andrew Melo
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: network-manager

Hey all-

I nuked my Feisty install to test out the Gutsty RC. I have a laptop
with an onboard ethernet adaptor (eth0) and a PCMCIA wireless adaptor
(airo) (eth1).

When I booted, eth0 (wired) was unplugged and eth1 (wireless) should've
have associated with the AP and retrieved an IP address. It associated
with the AP, but dhclient never came up to pull a DHCP license. I
grepped the system logs and couldn't find anything interesting.
Additionally, /etc/resolv.conf wasn't created but once I ran dhclient
manually, everything worked out fine. I also verified the
System-Administration-Network settings and roaming mode was
enabled.

Thanks for all your help!

2007-10-16 Thread Andrew Melo
Alexander-

I don't have flashplugin-nonfree installed (I have a vanilla install of
the RC cd), but firefox doesn't prompt me to install it, it just bombs
out with the error Can not find 'flashplugin-nonfree'. Is that the
desired behavior?

[Bug 132018] Re: nm-vpn-properties not installed after installing network-manager-pptp package

2007-10-16 Thread Andrew Melo
Sorry, I mispoke. I was running feisty at the time. I've upgraded to
gutsy since then. If I remember right, I think it was a packaging
problem and nm-vpn-properties didn't get installed. When I manually
installed it, I believe the problem went away.

[Bug 132018] nm-vpn-properties not installed after installing network-manager-pptp package

2007-08-12 Thread Andrew Melo
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: network-manager-pptp

After running 'sudo apt-get install network-manager-pptp', none of the
toolbar network applets have configuration options for VPN
configuration. The shortcut in Applications-Networking-VPN Connection
Manager (PPTP) reports that nm-vpn-properties cannot be found.

Perhaps there's a missing dependency in the package?

Thanks!
