[Bug 1510970] Re: Intel driver crashes on Ubuntu 15.10

2016-02-09 Thread Anoop Karollil
You can create the file with contents described in comment #40. The
location of the file can be the one described in #40 or #42, or possibly
some place else depending on your version of Linux I guess.

Dejavu - I have done this before - disabling sna. I will give it a go,
thanks. I had two crashes yesterday.

[Bug 1510970] Re: Intel driver crashes on Ubuntu 15.10

2015-11-13 Thread Anoop Karollil
Seems to be working, for people running Ubuntu 15.10, the location of
the file (20-intel.conf) with the contents that Georgi mentions above is
/usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d (rather than /etc/X11).

You can check if SNA is enabled by:

cat /var/log/Xorg.0.log | grep SNA

If you see it in the log, reboot after creating 20-intel.conf file as
described above and you shouldn't. And hopefully the crashes will go
away. Initial testing seems to indicate it fixes it for me.

[Bug 1510970] Re: Intel driver crashes on Ubuntu 15.10

2015-11-02 Thread Anoop Karollil
I can reproduce this consistently by opening up a calendar event in
Thunderbird. I also could reproduce this consistently when I opened up a
chat log dialog in Pidgin - but I could work around it by disabling
animations via CompizConfigSettingsManager. @Johannes, you could try
that work around, but yes, please fix this. I think booting into a
different kernel fixes the problem, but I have things installed that
depend on the latest kernel.

different (See Johan Tol's stack trace above which is exactly what is

[Bug 1312888] Re: evolution-ews in 14.04 only works as 'root'

2015-03-24 Thread Anoop Karollil
On 14.10, I couldn't get the new EWS account to show up at all - the URL
fetch works fine. But once you complete the wizard, the newly created
account doesn't show. When I ran as root, there was a new prompt to
create a new keyring (and a password for it). There was another prompt
later for the exchange password. After this, mail, calendar works fine.

[Bug 1312888] Re: evolution-ews in 14.04 only works as 'root'

2015-03-24 Thread Anoop Karollil
After a reboot, could start evolution as a regular user and the account
(more than one as I tried twice) I had created before showed up. I was
prompted for the keyring password and the account password at boot -
rather than at start of Evolution. Anyway, so for someone facing this
issue, steps to try after evolution install:

- Run evolution
- Configure EWS account
- Reboot

If that doesn't work

- Run evolution as root
- Configure EWS account (will result in prompt for creation of new keyring)
- Reboot
- Run evolution as regular user

[Bug 1242814] [NEW] 13.04 to 13.10 dist upgrade fails with do-dist-upgrade crash

2013-10-21 Thread Anoop Karollil
Public bug reported:

Very similar to https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/update-

Apport started up when do-dist-upgrade crashed but it failed silently

files. But it was a Python stack trace (NoneType object reference
related to window_main). Remounting /tmp with 'exec' flag fixed the

[Bug 969359] Re: [keyboard]: gnome-settings-daemon consumes 100% cpu (and blinking numlock)

2012-07-06 Thread Anoop Karollil
I have this problem with a fresh install of 12.04.

Christophe's keyboard.gnome-settings-plugin replacement work-around did
not work for me - the daemon spawned back with a vengeance and started
using 100% of one of my cores. But I can live with the default
autorepeat setting and am not overloading numlock, and so removing that
file altogether and killing gnome-settings-daemon worked.

[Bug 876916] Re: gnome-terminal segfault error 4 libgobject-2.0.so

2012-03-05 Thread Anoop Karollil
Just saw this myself. This hasn't happened to me before, and the trigger
seems to be moving session tabs out of the 'main' application with
multiple session tabs. I moved two in the middle of the tab list one at
a time to another 'group'. Specifically, moved one out, then moved
another into the one that I moved to create a 'group' with two tabs.
gnome-terminal crashed after (not immediately) and the following message
was in kern.log:

gnome-terminal[2190]: segfault at 8 ip b6f0eaca sp bf8252f0 error 4 in
libgobject-2.0.so.0.3000.0[b6efd000+4d000

I just enabled apport and will try to get a .crash file next time.

I just reproduced this too. Apport did its automatic bug creation but I
found three other bugs with the same apport generated title, one which
looked very similar to mine (bug #867565) and so I opted to subscribe
to that bug rather than create a new one.

Switched to the nouveau drivers. No Unity (there apparently is an
experimental dri package libgl1-mesa-dri-experimental that you can
install to get 3D support - but I want things stable). Seems stable now
and fast (alt tab etc) too. I do wish this gets fixed though.

This is using nvidia-current (275.09.07-0ubuntu2) from Oneric.

Yes, indeed, it doesn't seem to be keyboard related - my system froze
after I swapped the keyboards (new log attached). Its my work PC and it
seems to happen over weekends during long periods of inactivity. But it
has happened during 'office' hours too. I guess I will try the driver
from Oneric.

else.

[Bug 733374] Re: X freeze, nvidia-current, Ubuntu 10.10 Maverick GeForce 9600GT

2011-04-29 Thread Anoop Karollil
So ran into the problem again. Uninstalled nvidia-current and nvidia-
settings. Back to the same work around as described in comment #19. And
nv isn't open, its proprietary. But is stable. I am not going to try
nouveau as it still doesn't support 3D fully and I am just fine with 2D,
which nv provides.

Maybe this problem is because I had installed nvidia drivers manually.
Maybe a fresh install of 11.04 will make the problem go away. But I
don't have the motivation to do that and am happy with nv.

[Bug 733374] Re: X freeze, nvidia-current, Ubuntu 10.10 Maverick

2011-04-19 Thread Anoop Karollil
I switched to the open source 'nv' driver present by default (by
manually editing xorg.conf). I don't need fancy graphics. All I need is
a dual monitor setup and I got that working through the generic System
-Preferences-Monitors configuration utility. It detected the monitors
just fine and let me choose a dual monitor configuration. Pretty neat. I
wish the nvidia-current driver was better. Attached is my xorg.conf for
anybody who faces this problem and just needs basic graphics via 'nv'.

Nope, roll back to 2.6.35-24 made it worse. Possibly because I had to
re-install 260.19.06-0ubuntu1 and that seem to reset something. I am now

[Bug 733374] Re: X freeze, nvidia-current, Ubuntu 10.10 Maverick

2011-03-15 Thread Anoop Karollil
Oops, it just happened with 2.6.35-25 too. I don't see a stack trace in
any of the logs. The only thing interesting around then seems to be:

Mar 15 10:15:32 anoop-desktop kernel: [328113.014696] NVRM: Xid
(0001:00): 51

** Summary changed:

- X freeze, nvidia-current, Ubuntu 10.10 Maverick 2.6.35-27-generic-pae
+ X freeze, nvidia-current, Ubuntu 10.10 Maverick

** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: xorg

I don't know if its only X and I didn't try SSHing in. But found an X
freeze backtrace (attached) in syslog. I don't know what triggers it,
but it did happen twice during normal use and thrice over night. Tried
the latest nvidia driver from nvidia.com. This happened then too.
Uninstalled and re-installed from nvidia-current package. This trace is
when using Ubuntu nvidia-current package. It might be that this is
happening after I upgraded the Ubuntu Linux kernel package. UPDATE: This
- is not happening with kernel 2.6.35-25-generic-pae
+ happens with 2.6.35-25-generic-pae too.

2011-03-14 Thread Anoop Karollil
I switched back to the older kernel - 2.6.35-25-generic-pae and the
issue hasn't happened since. So the problem seems to be related to
2.6.35-27-generic-pae

[Bug 733374] Re: X freeze, nvidia-current, Ubuntu 10.10 Maverick

2011-03-11 Thread Anoop Karollil
Found this trace in kern.log. It should be when I switched to the latest
nvidia driver (NVIDIA-Linux-x86-260.19.44.run) from nvidia.com to see if
that works.
