[Bug 358807] Re: battery monitor show only 0% off battery charge in ACER Aspire 5050-3284
I've had this issue for as long as I can remember, and it's still present in 14.04. I have apparently the same battery as the bug reporter. I'm running on an Acer Aspire 5050-5554. I don't know if it's due to changes in acpi since 2009 or because of a different symptom, but my output is slightly different, especially state - remaining capacity. $ cat /proc/acpi/battery/BAT1/alarm alarm: unsupported $ cat /proc/acpi/battery/BAT1/info present: yes design capacity: 4000 mAh last full capacity: 64675 mAh battery technology: rechargeable design voltage: 11100 mV design capacity warning: 300 mAh design capacity low: 2587 mAh cycle count: 0 capacity granularity 1: 32 mAh capacity granularity 2: 32 mAh model number:ZR3 serial number: 40696 battery type:LION OEM info:SONY $ cat /proc/acpi/battery/BAT1/state present: yes capacity state: ok charging state: charged present rate:0 mA remaining capacity: 0 mAh present voltage: 12193 mV Fun fact: if I boot into Ubuntu with the AC adapter unplugged, I can run off the battery for at least 10 minutes. But if I unplug AC while Ubuntu is running, it goes into critical shutdown mode. I've always assumed that the battery hardware controller was faulty. However, the battery light will also turn yellow after the adapter's been unplugged, which suggests to me that the hardware itself may have a more accurate internal reading of the charge state. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/358807 Title: battery monitor show only 0% off battery charge in ACER Aspire 5050-3284 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/acpi/+bug/358807/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 746792] Re: dash categories dropdown menu needs to be improved
I propose a different solution to category selection. http://i.imgur.com/SdLMT.jpg The mockup at the URL above covers a bunch of different tweaks, but the one I want to focus on is this. If you're accessing your programs via mouse, it's difficult to look up a specific category of applications. It takes 3 clicks to get to a list of all applications. It takes four to five clicks to get a list of all applications in a specific category. In contrast, the old Gnome 2 behavior allowed you to click the Applications menu and then mouse-over the rest of the way to the program you want. KDE 4's menu even allows you to mouse-over most of the way to the application you're looking for, and offers the keyword search on top of it. My suggestion: once you navigate your way into the Applications lens, have a vertical list of all application categories on the left side, with an arrow indicating which category you're currently looking at. Allow clicking or delayed mouse-over to switch categories. Get rid of the drop-down in the search box. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/746792 Title: dash categories dropdown menu needs to be improved -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Ivor Howard: Right-click the panel, and select the Add to Panel option. From there, you should find the workspace switcher tool. Sebastien: I'd like to reopen this as a feature request. [Bug 118745] Re: Font sizes in Gutsy are vulnerable to bad X.org DPI detection
Pardon my curiosity, but what is the significance of the OS knowing the PPI of the screen? Consider the following scenarios: Screen #1 is an independent monitor: a 19 LCD with native 1280x1024 resolution. The PPI is approx. 85. The user sits between 3 and 5 feet away from this screen. Screen #2 is a laptop panel: a 14.1 LCD with native 1280x800 resolution. The PPI is approx. 105. The user sits between 1 and 2 feet away from this screen. When the GUI scales everything by the DPI of the monitor, it will scale everything according to what the real size of the graphics should be. This means that Screen #1 will display more information on it than Screen #2, regardless of resolution. However, the smaller size of the graphics on Screen #1 causes the user to strain at his usual sitting distance from the monitor, while the relatively large graphics on Screen #2 suffocate him with their sheer size. I guess what I'm asking is, wouldn't it make more sense to have a GUI scaling tool that lets you resize all graphics (independent of resolution) rather than autosize everything according to the monitor's PPI? -- Font sizes in Gutsy are vulnerable to bad X.org DPI detection https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/118745 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 131565] OpenOffice.org Base: Misreads . in Database Names
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: openoffice.org-base This bug is recreated when using FreeTDS to connect to an SQL Server database with dots in its name. In /etc/odbc.ini: [some_definition] Driver = FreeTDS Description = ODBC connection via FreeTDS Trace = No Servername = some_TDS_definition Database= dev.servername.com The name of the hypothetical database is dev.servername.com. Regarding this issue, efforts to contain the database name in square brackets [] and quotes invalidate the connection. Using OpenOffice.org Base, we connect using the some_definition ODBC entry. The tables are loaded in under the following branches: dev - servername - - com.dbo.table1 - - com.dbo.table2 That is part one of the bug. Part 2 is if we try to right-click one of the tables and open them, it returns an error. Further investigation shows us the query that is used: SELECT * FROM dev.servername.com.dbo.table1 The appropriate way to do this in SQL Server would be to write: SELECT * FROM [dev.servername.com].[dbo].[table1] Let me know if you need more information. ** Affects: openoffice.org (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- OpenOffice.org Base: Misreads . in Database Names https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/131565 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
