[Bug 1440210] Re: KWin crashes multiple times a day and often has to be restarted manually.

2015-05-04 Thread Antonio Sánchez
Just in case it helps:

Kwin crashes on moving windows to virtual desks with cube animation
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=347144

Moving window between virtual desks by dragging. Cube animation
selected. No problem if cube animatio is unselected.

Kwin restart causes lost of effects, but changing the compositor back to
OpenGL in Sytemsettings - Hardware - Display and Monitor - Compositor
restores them.

Actually, the problem is wobling effect. If it is unchecked there is no
bug.

[Bug 1396637] Re: deads keys / accented characters stop working on Libreoffice after windows loses focus

2015-01-02 Thread Antonio Sánchez
Same here: Kubuntu 14.10, LibreOffice 4.3.3.2, spanish localization.

This makes installed LO unusable for me. Alternatives: XMODIFIERS
workaround; reinstall gnome LO; use alternative software: calligra, OO;
abiword... None of them is satisfying. Provided office package should
be completely usable.

Found some reports in the web:

http://askubuntu.com/questions/564862/accented-letters-cant-be-typed-after-alttab
http://askubuntu.com/questions/451840/accents-stop-working-all-of-a-sudden-in-libreoffice

Some comments:

I solved it in my system by removing libreoffice-kde and keeping
libreoffice-gnone.

It seems other similar issues may be related to this package
combination (KDE, ibus, libreoffice-kde)

What helped to me was to remove libreoffice-kde package.

[Bug 1181237] Re: Kubuntu 14.04: System Frozen when Resuming from Suspend

2014-12-11 Thread Antonio Sánchez
Update: The reason why the caret is missing is because I'm using two
screens and the system chooses as principal the one I usually switch
off. The focus goes to the login dialog of this screen.

[Bug 1181237] Re: Kubuntu 14.04: System Frozen when Resuming from Suspend

2014-12-10 Thread Antonio Sánchez
No need to update BIOS. After upgrading to latest 14.10 and testing for
a few days I can confirm the bug is over, at least in my case.

Only one detail: caret is missing when typing the password, and it seems
controls can not navigated throgh tab key, but after clicking in
password field I can now type the password.

[Bug 1181237] Re: Kubuntu 13.04: System Frozen when Resuming from Suspend

2014-12-06 Thread Antonio Sánchez
Christopher, what I meant in my comment is that there is no bug running
kubuntu-desktop on top of a standard Ubuntu installation, but the bug
still lives in standard Kubuntu. Does it make sense? The bug should not
be closed. I am restoring bug status and change bug title as well to
make the point clearer.

[Bug 920369] Re: Re-login fails in Kubuntu 11.10 after logout

2014-01-30 Thread Antonio Sánchez
Still same issue in 13.10.

Perhaps, better rename than invalidate. The problem is still there.

Probably it is related to motherboard, or some other devices. My
computer has ASUS P8H61-MLE , but I have not detected this issue with
other computers.

[Bug 1258247] [NEW] Wrong Troubleshooting Apache in ApacheMySQLPHP community page for Ubuntu 3.10

2013-12-05 Thread Antonio Sánchez
Public bug reported:

Explanations in

https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ApacheMySQLPHP#Troubleshooting_Apache

don't work in Ubuntu 3.10. Not in my case.

But his worked for me:

echo ServerName localhost | sudo tee /etc/apache2/conf-
enabled/fqdn.conf

I got the idea from here:

http://tfountain.co.uk/blog/2013/10/18/fixing-apache-ubuntu-13-10

It seems newer versions of apache have changed some directory and
configuration structure.

[Bug 1189879] [NEW] Full Ubuntu One support in Dolphin

2013-06-11 Thread Antonio Sánchez
Public bug reported:

This is a request for enhancement.

Ubuntu One QT client is working fine in Kubuntu, but I miss full support
in Dolphin, right like Ubuntu One is supported in Nautilus.

I'm currently using a Dolphin service:

Now even user/password is not displayed. Only desktop with opened
windows when the system was set to sleep. Keyboard and screen is frozen,
mouse pointer moves. Must shutdown using power button, which reacts
immediately (no need to hold).

[Bug 1181237] [NEW] Kubuntu 13.04: Unreachable password field in resume screen because keyboard and mouse clicks do not respond

2013-05-17 Thread Antonio Sánchez
Public bug reported:

Kubuntu 13.04 (Raring Ringtail) just installed

System resumes or locks screen correctly. It also correctly displays
resume screen.

But then keyboard seems to be locked, I can't move to buttons or
password field, not even using the mouse. The mouse pointer moves
normally but clicking on fields do nothing, it seems the controls are
disabled although display as enabled.

Once I was able to display the mnemonics of buttons pressing 'Alt', but
either way they didn't respond to the action.

I just only able to power off the computer and restart.

[Bug 1004027] [NEW] Suspend / Resume fails in new desktop computer 12.04

2012-05-24 Thread Antonio Sánchez
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu 12.04.
Intel Core i3 2120
Desktop Motherboard Asus P8 H61-MLE.
Graphics nvidia GeForce GT 520

Two problems:

1. Suspend fails if a usb disk drive is plugged in the system. The
screen switches off but not the processor. Resuming fails.

2. Once the computer is suspender it will never resume. The computer
tries a few times to restart but immediately stops again, and after a
few seconds tries again. After one minute more or less the computer
finally apparently restarts but the screen does not.

Please help.

Thanks.

It seems I can not reproduce case 1 and all boils down to case 2, both
for logging a different user or re-login the same one.

[Bug 920369] [NEW] Re-login fails in Kubuntu 11.10 after logout

2012-01-23 Thread Antonio Sánchez
Public bug reported:

The system boots normally, the first login is successful and the user
logs out. Then in both cases:

1. Another login is performed but with a different user.
2. The same user logs in again and as soon as the desktop is loaded (before the
login process completes fully) the user quickly performs some action (like
opening Firefox).

the login fails and the user is logged out, the session is finished and
the user is forwarded again to the login screen.

[Bug 898604] Re: Kubuntu 11.10 keyboard shortcuts fail

2012-01-10 Thread Antonio Sánchez
For a workaround see:

http://kubuntuforums.net/forums/index.php?topic=3119581.0

Right click the K menu, then Edit Applications. Find Thunderbird, then
click in the Advanced tab. make your shortcut, then click in the save
icon. Now see if it works.

I'm new in KDE and Kubuntu and maybe this is the right way to proceed,
but I'm not sure; I thought 'Mail' in 'Standard shortcuts' would open
mail client.

[Bug 914335] [NEW] Kubuntu 11.10: Default file associaton for 'inode/directory' is Amarok and not Dolphin in Spanish install

2012-01-10 Thread Antonio Sánchez
Public bug reported:

Spanish install has Amarok as default file associaton for
'inode/directory', and not Dolphin, and this may be annoying in some
cases.

For instance, when I plug my external usb drive (where I store my music
library) a window pops up and I choose to open a file browser (the other
option is open Gwenview), but Dolphin is not opened and instead Amarok
begins to explore the drive looking for audio files. Occasionally this
causes the system to slow down and eventually gets it locked for a
while.

Also: Firefox downloads window, right click and 'Open folder' does
nothing but tries to open with Amarok.

It seems this is not happening in English installs (and probably other
languages) where the default file association is Dolphin.

Users have to manually edit the file association, if they know what is
happening, which might not be the case for non experienced kde users.

In my case this is not the first time I have this problem. In the past I
tried Kubuntu (maybe 10.10, I don't remember) and I had this very same
problem and this was the reason why I stopped using Kubuntu, as every
time I plugged my external drive the system slowed down and eventually
got locked for a while which made my desktop unusable.

So, in my opinion, this is potentially risky in the sense that it may
discourage the usage of Kubuntu.

Please, how can I install the fix released?

I have updated my system according to http://www.kubuntu.org/kde-sc-474.
I guess that is oneiric-updates repository.

After downloading 150Mb I tried to install 'oneiric-proposed' but apt-
get complains with something like invalid for APT::Default-Release as
that version is not available in the sources.

How should I proceed?

[Bug 883585] Re: Kubuntu 11.10 -- Network/Local Printers found but cannot print - Unable to get printer status

2012-01-03 Thread Antonio Sánchez
I have Kubuntu 11.10 (64 bits). HP LaserJet P1005 local USB. Driver
foo2xqx (recommended).

System up to date.

Printer is installed, print job is sent and consumed but nothing is
actually printed.

Printer was detected and installed automatically the first time I
plugged it; probably (I don't remember) using a not sudoer user.

I can print normally in Ubuntu 11.10. I remember the system asked me to
download and install the driver from a terminal window, like usual with
this HP printer. But Kubuntu never asked me to do so.

What's wrong in my case? What can I do?

[Bug 898604] [NEW] Kubuntu 11.10 keyboard shortcuts fail

2011-12-01 Thread Antonio Sánchez
Public bug reported:

Hello.

It seems keyboard shortcuts custom associations are not working in
Kubuntu 11.10 (64 bits).

I have created a shortcut for opening E-mail client (Thunderbird) using
'Mail' hot-key, using 'Standard shortcuts' preference window. The hot-
key is detected and the shortcut is configured, but pressing the hot-key
does nothing. The same for other keyboard combinations.

Conversely, audio volume hot-keys are working, even the corresponding
association in 'Global shortcuts' for Amarok is empty, while shortcuts
for 'stop/pause/next...' are attached to the corresponding hot-keys but
these are not working.

It is a fresh installation.

[Bug 897180] [NEW] Cant' add contacts to Ubuntu One address book in Thunderbird Kubuntu 11.10

2011-11-28 Thread Antonio Sánchez
Public bug reported:

Installed Ubuntu One contacts support for Thunderbird in Kubuntu 11.10
as specified in https://one.ubuntu.com/help/tutorial/install-and-setup-
contacts-sync/.

When I try to copy or move one or more contacts by drag-and-drop from
some address book (personal one, for instance) to Ubuntu One address
book the 'drop' is rejected and the contacts are not copied.

Adding a new contact directly to Ubuntu One address book (right click,
new contact) creates a new contact but adds it to the personal address
book instead of U1 address book.

[Bug 693017] [NEW] Printer grouping matter

2010-12-21 Thread José Antonio Sánchez Pallero
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: system-config-printer

When you set a lot of printers and you group them by the GUI using Group-New
Group, the group label will be created, but all the printers you assign to that
group by clicking over anyone and selecting in the context menu Add
group-name_your_group, you would see the printer right set while you keep the
GUI open; if you close the GUI, next time you start it the group label appers
but empty.
Nevertheless if you find the printers using the search bar, by location for
example, and you use the search bar option Save result as group, the group will
be created, the printers set to it and it would remains each time you start and
stop the GUI.

I have found that the .printer-groups.xml generated in the first case
has return carriage separating each xml tag from the others, while the
file generated in the second case hasn't any return carriage: all the
xml tags come joinen one each other continuously.

When I replace all the return carriage from the file, all the printers
appears in their groups, so I assume it's a bug in the script that
translate the .printer-groups.xml.

File .printer-groups.xml generated in the first case:

?xml version=1.0?
ospm-groups
  static-group name=UCI
queues
  queue name=IF140029/
  queue name=IX140123/
/queues
  /static-group

/queues
  /static-group
  static-group name=Almod#xF3;var del Rio
queues
  queue name=IF140023/
/queues
  /static-group
/ospm-groups

File generated in the second and successfully way:
?xml version=1.0?

2010-11-02 Thread Antonio Sánchez
Finally we have bought a motherboard model fully supported in 10.04. I
can not keep doing tests on this hardware because we returned the
Gigabyte G41MT-D3 to the supplier.

Thanks for the constructive comments.

[Bug 625279] [NEW] OLE Objects suddenly disappear

2010-08-27 Thread Antonio Sánchez
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: openoffice.org

After having written a very large document with OpenOffice Writer with a
dozen formulas from the formula editor, suddenly the formulas don't
appear in the document. Icons appear with the name Object XX where XX
is a number instead of the formulas.

Closing all OpenOffice's instances and re-open the document doesn't
solve the problem.

[Bug 625279] Re: OLE Objects suddenly disappear

2010-08-27 Thread Antonio Sánchez
People upstream says that the problem is solved in the main project.

This problem has already been reported by several Linux users working
with OOo provided by the distributor. Please use OOo downloaded from
openoffice.org - there the problem does not occur. Please report this
problem to your Linux distributor.

[Bug 496928] [NEW] fast-user-switch-applet hangs and disappears from panel

2009-12-15 Thread Antonio Sánchez
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: fast-user-switch-applet

We use fast-user-switch-applet as default method for shutting down
computers in schools. Our users (400.000+) report us that using a single
user of the system at school f-u-s-a disappears (look at the attached
capture) and they can't do a clean shutdown of the computer.
Furthermore, f-u-s-a eats a lot of CPU (50%+).

Our users (students and teachers) doesn't have wnough knowledge of a
linux system for killing the process and restart it so they have to
force shutdown of the computer to continue working.

This behaviour only appears when computers are connected to the net of
the school. The system has the possibility of login against school's
LDAP (OpenLDAP) server. This behaviour appears sometimes in all the
computers of the classroom at the same time.

When this happens you can see at the /var/log/auth.log file the next
lines:

Dec 14 15:30:01 pc236-0 CRON[8544]: pam_unix(cron:session): session opened for

This bug affects Ubuntu 9.04 f-u-s-a default package, but also affects
current version in Karmic 9.10.

Now we are testing with a fast-user-switch-applet backport from karmic in
jaunty:
Package: fast-user-switch-applet
Version: 2.24.0-3ubuntu1cga0

[Bug 496928] Re: fast-user-switch-applet hangs and disappears from panel

2009-12-15 Thread Antonio Sánchez
This is a problem of our system configuration:

We had a script that run every X minutes by cron looking for changes in
/etc/passwd to avoid that someone in a school could achieve root
privileges in the system.

When f-u-s-a detects a LDAP server running, watch /etc/passwd, and
suddenly LDAP connection gets lost f-u-s-a gets hanged as I reported
before.

Sorry for the inconvenience, I mark this bug as invalid.

My Karmic installation in a similar hardware and configuration is like
yours. I don't feel Karmic to boot slower than Jaunty did.

[Bug 480171] [NEW] Wrong keys combination in Toshiba Tecra M5

2009-11-10 Thread Antonio Sánchez
Public bug reported:

Using karmic and jaunty in a certain laptop model (Toshiba Tecra M5)
some keys combination doesn't print at the screen (terminal, Openoffice,
...) the right result.

This is the behaviour:

- Right Shift + M: It's like right clic with the mouse.
- Left Shift + M (2 times): writes a capital M first time but second time
doesn't write anything. It's not posible to write MM.
- Right Shift + Ñ: writes Ñ (capital) + one blank space Ñ
- Left Shift + Ñ: correct result.
- Right Shift + X: correct result.
- Left Shift + X: writes ªX.

This happens with several keymaps (ES_es, EN_uk, EN_us). This didn't
happen with older versions of Ubuntu.

[Bug 435257] Re: Karmic takes forever to install on a Toshiba NB 200

2009-10-05 Thread Antonio Sánchez
Hi Marc, Leann, Joey,

We had a similar issue when we tryed to install Jaunty over the network,
finally we found that is something related with the Atom power
management.

Try to disable C-States of the Processor Power Management setup in BIOS.
