[Bug 1440210] Re: KWin crashes multiple times a day and often has to be restarted manually.
Just in case it helps: Kwin crashes on moving windows to virtual desks with cube animation https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=347144 Moving window between virtual desks by dragging. Cube animation selected. No problem if cube animatio is unselected. Kwin restart causes lost of effects, but changing the compositor back to OpenGL in Sytemsettings - Hardware - Display and Monitor - Compositor restores them. Actually, the problem is wobling effect. [Bug 1396637] Re: deads keys / accented characters stop working on Libreoffice after windows loses focus
Same here: Kubuntu 14.10, LibreOffice 4.3.3.2, spanish localization. This makes installed LO unusable for me. Alternatives: XMODIFIERS workaround; reinstall gnome LO; use alternative software: calligra, OO; abiword... None of them is satisfying. Provided office package should be completely usable. [Bug 1181237] Re: Kubuntu 14.04: System Frozen when Resuming from Suspend
No need to update BIOS. After upgrading to latest 14.10 and testing for a few days I can confirm the bug is over, at least in my case. [Bug 914335] [NEW] Kubuntu 11.10: Default file associaton for 'inode/directory' is Amarok and not Dolphin in Spanish install
Public bug reported: Spanish install has Amarok as default file associaton for 'inode/directory', and not Dolphin, and this may be annoying in some cases. For instance, when I plug my external usb drive (where I store my music library) a window pops up and I choose to open a file browser (the other option is open Gwenview), but Dolphin is not opened and instead Amarok begins to explore the drive looking for audio files. Occasionally this causes the system to slow down and eventually gets it locked for a while. Also: Firefox downloads window, right click and 'Open folder' does nothing but tries to open with Amarok. It seems this is not happening in English installs (and probably other languages) where the default file association is Dolphin. Users have to manually edit the file association, if they know what is happening, which might not be the case for non experienced kde users. In my case this is not the first time I have this problem. In the past I tried Kubuntu (maybe 10.10, I don't remember) and I had this very same problem and this was the reason why I stopped using Kubuntu, as every time I plugged my external drive the system slowed down and eventually got locked for a while which made my desktop unusable. So, in my opinion, this is potentially risky in the sense that it may discourage the usage of Kubuntu. [Bug 883585] Re: Kubuntu 11.10 -- Network/Local Printers found but cannot print - Unable to get printer status
I have Kubuntu 11.10 (64 bits). HP LaserJet P1005 local USB. Driver foo2xqx (recommended). System up to date. Printer is installed, print job is sent and consumed but nothing is actually printed. Printer was detected and installed automatically the first time I plugged it; probably (I don't remember) using a not sudoer user. I can print normally in Ubuntu 11.10. [Bug 693017] [NEW] Printer grouping matter
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: system-config-printer When you set a lot of printers and you group them by the GUI using Group-New Group, the group label will be created, but all the printers you assign to that group by clicking over anyone and selecting in the context menu Add group-name_your_group, you would see the printer right set while you keep the GUI open; if you close the GUI, next time you start it the group label appers but empty. Nevertheless if you find the printers using the search bar, by location for example, and you use the search bar option Save result as group, the group will be created, the printers set to it and it would remains each time you start and stop the GUI. I have found that the .printer-groups.xml generated in the first case has return carriage separating each xml tag from the others, while the file generated in the second case hasn't any return carriage: all the xml tags come joinen one each other continuously. People upstream says that the problem is solved in the main project. This problem has already been reported by several Linux users working with OOo provided by the distributor. Please use OOo downloaded from openoffice.org - there the problem does not occur. [Bug 496928] [NEW] fast-user-switch-applet hangs and disappears from panel
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: fast-user-switch-applet We use fast-user-switch-applet as default method for shutting down computers in schools. Our users (400.000+) report us that using a single user of the system at school f-u-s-a disappears (look at the attached capture) and they can't do a clean shutdown of the computer. Furthermore, f-u-s-a eats a lot of CPU (50%+). Our users (students and teachers) doesn't have wnough knowledge of a linux system for killing the process and restart it so they have to force shutdown of the computer to continue working. This behaviour only appears when computers are connected to the net of the school. The system has the possibility of login against school's LDAP (OpenLDAP) server. This behaviour appears sometimes in all the computers of the classroom at the same time. When this happens you can see at the /var/log/auth.log file the next lines: Dec 14 15:30:01 pc236-0 CRON[8544]: pam_unix(cron:session): session opened for user root by (uid=0) Dec 14 15:30:01 pc236-0 CRON[8542]: pam_unix(cron:session): session closed for user root Dec 14 15:30:01 pc236-0 CRON[8543]: pam_unix(cron:session): session closed for user root Dec 14 15:30:16 pc236-0 fast-user-switch-applet: nss_ldap: could not get LDAP result - Can't contact LDAP server Dec 14 15:39:01 pc236-0 CRON[8633]: pam_unix(cron:session): session opened for user root by (uid=0) Dec 14 15:39:01 pc236-0 CRON[8633]: pam_unix(cron:session): session closed for user root Dec 14 15:40:01 pc236-0 CRON[8640]: pam_unix(cron:session): session opened for user root by (uid=0) This bug affects Ubuntu 9.04 f-u-s-a default package, but also affects current version in Karmic 9.10. [Bug 496928] Re: fast-user-switch-applet hangs and disappears from panel
This is a problem of our system configuration: We had a script that run every X minutes by cron looking for changes in /etc/passwd to avoid that someone in a school could achieve root privileges in the system. When f-u-s-a detects a LDAP server running, watch /etc/passwd, and suddenly LDAP connection gets lost f-u-s-a gets hanged as I reported before. It's not posible to write MM. - Right Shift + Ñ: writes Ñ (capital) + one blank space Ñ - Left Shift + Ñ: correct result. - Right Shift + X: correct result. - Left Shift + X: writes ªX.
