[Bug 501882] Re: Impossible to open a file OOo writer without the odt extension odt

2009-12-31 Thread Antony.S
Ah, of course, KDE not Gnome :) Then I believe the second problem is
actually a problem with KDE not (k)ubuntu/OpenOffice, so I am removing
it from the bug description to prevent confusion.

** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: openoffice.org

By using the openoffice packages officially released for K/Ubuntu 9.10
Karmic, OOo writer is unable to open a file without the .odt extension.

for example, on Ubuntu/Kubuntu (kde and gnome) i create an odt file on the
desktop. I open it with OOo writer directly.
I copy and paste this file and I remove the odt extension. Then I try to open
this file again but OOo writer does not open the file and starts with a new
document untitled 1.

The problem does not occur with OOo calc, which is able to open the file
with and without the ods extension.

- Another problem I have noticed on Kubuntu Karmic: when using the file menu
and the open command, when the filter all files (*.*) is selected, not all
the files are displayed... only the ones with the .odt or .ods extension !
- I have to change manually the filter to * and then, all the file are
effectively displayed. If I choose a file without extension, OOo (writer and
calc) does not open it.
-
  version used 3.1.1 OOO310m19 (build 9420)

tested on 5 different computers (2 had karmic from scratch, 3 had an
update from jaunty, also tested with the live cd of Kubuntu and ubuntu)

  - problem with serious consequences in the enterprise where I can not
add the odt extension to all the files that were previously created
  without the extension.

2009-12-26 Thread Antony.S
TLC = Tough loving care, he means it may need some attention

You are correct, Lucid - which is at an *early* alpha/beta stage - is
not bugless and never will be. All large software projects have bugs
including software that costs millions of dollars.

That is why bug trackers exist to help report bugs so that they can be
fixed.

Back to the topic
- Did the other icon work otherwise proeprly as network manager?
- Do you still have the problem? Do you always have it?
