[Bug 858845] Re: Screen edge actions set in CCSM (scale/expo) don't work (sometimes) - Wall plugin is probably responsible

2015-09-20 Thread Arnaud Thevenet
Agreed. It still badly affects new users experience. And others desktops
than unity starts to have hot corners working fine out of the box...

Is it supposed to be fixed by a new version of Unity or Compiz in 16.04
LTS ?

[Bug 858845] Re: Screen edge actions set in CCSM (scale/expo) don't work (sometimes) - Wall plugin is probably responsible

2015-01-02 Thread Arnaud Thevenet
The workaround which consists of disabling the automatic sorting and set unity
before expo and scale plugins, which has been working for a while, will now
make compiz CRASH WITH SIGSEGV EVERYTIME I use the corner action which triggers
Window spread.
I reproduced it on three different machines (laptop, workstation, personal PC)
on 14.04 with all updates. It can be reproduced any time just after login.

This behaviour has made users spend a lot of time trying to solve it and
reporting, and has driven me beyond reasonable patience.
Can anyone at least inform us about ongoing fixing?
Thanks.

[Bug 880626] Re: eog should consider menubar size when creating windows to avoid scaling

2014-10-24 Thread Arnaud Thevenet
Hi all,

This bug is still there. Any image smaller than the desktop should open with
1:1 scaling (no scaling), but all images are just scaled by a little when
opened, even if no scroll bar is displayed...
It is no very serious, but just a pity.

Eactly 3 years after this bug was opened, could we have a little update,
or a little fixing? Thanks!

[Bug 1195061] Re: Unetbootin asks for Administrative Password, password fails with correct password; gksudo issue?

2014-10-13 Thread Arnaud Thevenet
This bug still exist in 14.04. gksu-properties is well set.

The issue is unetbootin does not require a sudoer's password, but the
user's one. For example, synaptic package manager handles this properly.
See attached image: the user arno is not the current user, but the one
that has administrator privileges.

Of course sudo unetbootin works when launched with a sudoer. But this
should not be required, as synaptic and software center do properly.

Another workaround that may help find the reason of the bug :

After closing this window, the software updater window will be resizable.

[Bug 682492] Re: Evince: Save Settings as default doesn't work

2014-08-27 Thread Arnaud Thevenet
This issue has lead to several bugs, disparate information, and a lot of
frustration.
I think the real issue is here :
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/evince/+bug/1355804
and it seems now fixed... in Utopic. Hope that 14.04 will benefit from it soon.

Unitl then, as I was in the case of NFS mounted homes (one of the causes for
this bug), the fix is :
sudo dpkg-reconfigure apparmor
+ Add your home location as explained.

I doubt this is the fix for every case, but I hope this will help.

[Bug 858845] Re: Screen edge actions set in CCSM (scale/expo) don't work (sometimes) - Wall plugin is probably responsible

2014-08-16 Thread Arnaud Thevenet
In short, this issue is not fixed. Any fresh 14.04 installation with hot
corners enabled will have hot corners inactive once out of two
(approximately...). My hot corners are set to Show desktops on bottom
right, Windows spread on bottom left.

My workaround (open Unity Tweak Tool, disable and enable back hot
corners) still works every time.

I think this, on top of being very annoying for those who use hot
corners, prevent Ubuntu from reaching the nice usability it pretends to
have. This unfortunately works very fine on Macs...

Hot corners have been available for years in Compiz, but never really
neatly integrated in Ubuntu.

Any news about what is planned about this?
Thanks to all.

I still have this bug in a fresh 14.04, but the workaround I reported still

Hi all,

If I well understood, the fix is provided in the dev ppa, as I still
have compiz 1:0.9.9 on my up-to-date 13.04.

But, if it can be useful before the fix is released for everyone, a quick
workaround is to open Unity Tweak Tool, Hotcorners tab, switch off Hotcorners
(with General button) and switch it back on.
The hotcorners works again without the need for logging out or restart compiz.

Pavol, it does not seem to be related to automaximize.
I have this issue 3 times out of 4 with STAR-CCM+ (scientific computation
software) and when one instance has this flaw, every dialog box has it.
So even with not maximized windows (dialog boxes) if the parent window has the
issue, the child windows has it too.

[Bug 981406] Re: Bottom part of maximized windows missing sometimes

2013-08-19 Thread Arnaud Thevenet
After some java tests, it does not change anything with oracle java or
open jdk, with 1.6.45, or 1.6.39. Does not seem to be the cause, also
according to the fact that Shotwell has no Java.

I have actually some random behaviour, and my previous statement is not true :
I have some windows opened normally, with dialog boxes on which I do not see
the bottom.
I attached screeshots.
Notice that the bottom of the window (see the maximized one) is a duplicate of
the window that was open just before starting, or the desktop wllpapaer if no
window was open).

What can I do next to help to focus on the cause?
Thanks
Arnaud

In my case, it is likely to be related to the java version. Actually, the

[Bug 1180785] Re: Empty account details/options, no input fields displayed

2013-05-30 Thread Arnaud Thevenet
OK, so I think I misunderstood, and this is not exactly this bug which affects
me.
Thank you anyway.

[Bug 1180785] Re: Empty account details/options, no input fields displayed

2013-05-27 Thread Arnaud Thevenet
Same issue on 13.04 with Gnome Shell. After adding a Google account, the
account list remains empty. Notice that in Gnome Shell the Online
accounts item in System settings is duplicated : the Unity item is
still there (and seems to work) but the Gnome one is there and does not
work.

[Bug 959164] Re: modem-manager doesn't shut down

2013-05-25 Thread Arnaud Thevenet
I have this bug in 13.04 on a fresh install. Is this bug still relevant
or is there another one more up to date?

[Bug 858845] Re: Screen edge actions set in CCSM (scale/expo) don't work (sometimes) - plugin load-order causes the shortcut loss

2013-01-28 Thread Arnaud Thevenet
Hi all,

When this bug happened, I used to have it working by moving unity before
scale and expo plugins in gconf editor. The bug happens after a kernel
update, at least for me.

But now the workaround does not work anymore (I can't remember if it stopped
working just from 12.10 or if it once worked with 12.10 and then stopped with a
later update, sorry for this...) , and the dconf actions does not work either.
So this might not be as simple as changing the plugins order.

Furthermore, the Revert to default in compiz config editor, done on
unity configuration, crashes Unity permanently. Even after reboot, not
Unity interface shows up. The only way was to use the Webupd8 unity-
reset tool via command line.

If I can do further useful tests, please tell me.

[Bug 1086746] Re: Bluetooth keyboard battery interpreted as laptop battery

2012-12-15 Thread Arnaud Thevenet
Hello there,

I have this issue too.
Notice that with the Bluetooth USB dongle shipped with the keyboard, the
wrong battery disappear and the keyboard is working fine.
So I am keeping the USB dongle plugged in, as Ubuntu do not work well with the
laptop bluetooth device connected to the DiNovo Edge. With the dongle, I can
let the bluetooth-wifi hard switch on, anyway. At least it does not interfere.
