[Bug 1875528] Re: Extra frozen / stuck mouse cursor after auto screen lock / sleep

2021-01-20 Thread arvind das
The guy here has posted a solution which worked for me.
https://dev.to/akarsh77/does-your-laptop-touch-pad-becomes-unresponsive-or-gets-stuck-in-ubuntu-or-ubuntu-based-systems-1npm

Open the terminal and type these commands
sudo modprobe -r psmouse
sudo modprobe psmouse

this will free the mouse from frozen state. :)

[Bug 1875015] Re: Ubuntu 20.04 and Displaylink is extremely slow

2020-12-07 Thread Arvind
Additionally, I noticed this issue on Linuxmint 20 (Ulayana) release
installed on a Lenovo T580 Thinkpad. The displays attached via USB3.0
(dell D3100) totally become stuttery and unusable. The Xserver fix
provided by DisplayLink makes it useable
(https://www.displaylink.com/downloads/file?d=310) (without and with
laptop lid closed) but there are still a lot of stutters/lag overall.

[Bug 1852183] Re: [X11] copy/paste (clipboard) is broken in Ubuntu 19.10 & 20.04

2020-05-06 Thread Arvind Prasad
I have upgraded from ubuntu 19.10 to 20.04. I would like to report in
both of these versions there is a problem with the copy-paste command.
When we copy it does not paste. We have to redo this to paste it.
Sometimes it pastes the previous item that has been copied. This is all
across the programs used. It is not specific to any one program use.
Also I confirm that this is a problem with Ubuntu OS as libre office
when used in windows does not face this issue.

[Bug 1873681] [NEW] Wireless card driver issue

2020-04-19 Thread Arvind Bakshi
Public bug reported:

I own a Dell Vostro 3468 that came installed with ubuntu 16.04. The
wireless card in this laptop i.e. "Qualcomm QCA9377" performs poorly on
every linux distro. The link speed on linux is never more than "1 mbps"
whereas on windows 10 it easily gives "10+ mbps" link speeds. Also
signal strength is very poor on linux whereas on windows 10 I easily get
full bars in signal. Moreover on linux "page cannot be found", could not
connect to xyz site, slow download speeds are common whereas I have seen
very high download speeds(50 mbps) on the same laptop running windows
10. So I can conclude that its a driver issue. I have had the same issue
in Fedora 30, 31. On Ethernet I get great speeds(10 + mbps). Please
provide a fix for this as this makes the experience worse, software
downloads crash in between, websites open slow etc.

[Bug 1585084] Re: Volume notification keeps popping up constantly(the notifyosd bubble on top-right corner)

2017-03-22 Thread Arvind
Have the same issue on 16.04 (kernel 4.4.0-66) with a Realtek ALC892
card. acpi_listen shows multiple headphone plug/unplug events:

jack/headphone HEADPHONE plug
jack/headphone HEADPHONE unplug

The volume dialog popping up is a consequence of the system thinking a
jack was plugged in. Moreover, I find that once I plug in headphones,
the spurious jack events stop. Is this a Pulseaudio bug, or something in
ACPI/further upstream?

[Bug 1448724] Re: Netmowrk manager does not show in top panel in Ubuntu 15.04

2015-04-30 Thread Arvind Kumar
I am a professional tester and i believe if there is a bug then it should be
fixed and we cannot go with workaround for a long time.
I love Ubuntu and i want it should stable , stability and defect-less(no
product can go defect less but they can be minimize) should be priority.

thanks for sharing workaround,i will use this until this bug will get
fixed

Thanks

[Bug 1371591] Re: file not initialized to 0s under some conditions on VMWare

2014-10-10 Thread Arvind Kumar
Hi Chris,

This is Arvind Kumar from VMware. Recently the issue discussed in this
bug was brought into VMware's notice. We looked at the patch
(https://lkml.org/lkml/2014/9/23/509) which was done to address the
issue. Since the patch is done in mptsas driver, it addresses the issue
only on lsilogic controller, if user uses some other controller e.g.
pvscsi or buslogic then the issue remains. Moreover the patch disables
the WRITE SAME completely on the lsilogic which indicates that VMware
will never be able to support WRITE SAME on lsilogic. As I understand
from the bug, it is concluded that the WRITE SAME is not properly
implemented by VMware. Actually we don't support WRITE SAME at all.

We internally investigated the issue and as per our understanding the
issue is not VMware specific and rather seems to be with the kernel,
which could very well happen on real hardware too in case the disk
doesn't support WRITE SAME command. Below are the details of the
investigation by Petr Vandrovec.

--

In blk-lib.c on line 294 it checks whether bdev supports write_same.
With LVM, bdev here is dm-0. It says yes, it is supported, and so
write_same is invoked (note that check is racy in case device loses
write_same capability between test and moment bio is issued):

291  int blkdev_issue_zeroout(struct block_device *bdev, sector_t sector,
292   sector_t nr_sects, gfp_t gfp_mask)
293  {
294  if (bdev_write_same(bdev)) {
295  unsigned char bdn[BDEVNAME_SIZE];
296
297  if (!blkdev_issue_write_same(bdev, sector, nr_sects,
gfp_mask,
298   ZERO_PAGE(0)))
299  return 0;
300
301  bdevname(bdev, bdn);
302  pr_err(%s: WRITE SAME failed. Manually zeroing.\n,
bdn);
303  }
304
305  return __blkdev_issue_zeroout(bdev, sector, nr_sects,
gfp_mask);
306  }
307  EXPORT_SYMBOL(blkdev_issue_zeroout);

Then it gets to LVM, and LVM forwards request to sda. When it fails,
kernel clears bdev_write_same() on sda, and returns -121 (EREMOTEIO).

Now next request comes. Nobody cleared bdev_write_same() on dm-0, it got
cleared only on sda, so request gets to LVM, which forwards it to sda.
Where it hits a snag in blk-core.c:

   1824  if (bio-bi_rw  REQ_WRITE_SAME
!bdev_write_same(bio-bi_bdev)) {
   1825  err = -EOPNOTSUPP;
   1826  goto end_io;
   1827  }

bi_bdev here is sda, and I/O fails with EOPNOTSUPP, without WRITE_SAME
ever being issued. And then it hits completion code that treats
EOPNOTSUPP as success:

 18 static void bio_batch_end_io(struct bio *bio, int err)
 19  {
 20  struct bio_batch *bb = bio-bi_private;
 21
 22 if (err (err != -EOPNOTSUPP))
 23  clear_bit(BIO_UPTODATE, bb-flags);
 24  if (atomic_dec_and_test(bb-done))
 25  complete(bb-wait);
 26  bio_put(bio);
 27  }

So everybody outside of blkdev_issue_write_same() thinks that I/O
succeeded, while in reality kernel even did not issue request!

Fix should:

1. Use different error code if WRITE_SAME request is thrown away. Or
remove special EOPNOTSUPP handling from end_io - I assume EOPNOTSUPP is
supposed to ignore failures from discarded commands, but then nobody
else should be using EOPNOTSUPP, and

2. WRITE_SAME failure should propagate from sda to dm-0.

--

Our understanding is that we should revert the fix in mptsas driver and
try to do the right fix as described above. I am attaching the patch
from Petr who did the investigation. CC'ing all involved people from
VMware too. Could you please evaluate the patch and suggest on further
steps?

Thanks!
Arvind

[Bug 1203235] Re: [H87N-WIFI, Realtek ALC892, Green Line Out, Rear] Underruns, dropouts or crackling sound

2014-03-18 Thread Arvind
Still seeing this on Ubuntu 13.10. The 2 steps mentioned in #13 do solve
the problem. However, as a result the speakers don't mute when a
headphone is plugged into front jack.

I can confirm that plugging in headphones prevents the jack state from
flapping. Also, when the state is flapping, the plugged in/out follow
each other with 0.5 second delay. The jack never settles on plugged in
when it is flapping. Could this bug be fixed by waiting ~0.5 second,
before accepting a newly plugged in jack? While waiting, if we get a
jack plugged out, then cancel the pending operation.

[Bug 763457] Re: please provide opencl-icd virtual package

2013-08-10 Thread Arvind S Raj
When I install pyopencl, the KDE desktop effects stop working. The
problem is that pyopencl depends on nvidia-current and nvidia-settings
and these get installed when I do not have an nVidia GPU. Also, since
the correct ICD(AMD/Intel for CPUs and not nVidia) is not installed,
pyopencl wouldn't work at all on multicore CPU/AMD GPU machines.

[Bug 763457] Re: please provide opencl-icd virtual package

2013-08-10 Thread Arvind S Raj
Please do reconsider backporting this for stable releases because the
current setup is completely broken and it's probably not a good idea to
leave it thus since it takes quite a while to figure out what is going
wrong.

If it's likely it'll not be backported, please do consider informing
users somehow that this package works with nVidia GPUs only. The package
could be renamed as python-pyopencl-nvidia or a clause could be included
in the description of the package saying it's for nVidia GPUs only.
Also, please consider maintaining a PPA for Ubuntu 12.04 and earlier.
Since it's a PPA, there is less obligation to provide support I suppose?

[Bug 692683] Re: System restarts after hibernate instead of resume

2012-04-22 Thread Arvind S Raj
Hello Christopher,
I just tried it in Kubuntu 11.10 and the hibernate is working fine. Perhaps
someone should try it in Ubuntu 11.10 as well just to be sure the issue doesn't
exist there as well. However if I suspend to RAM and start the machine again,
it restarts. I'll post the rest of the data from my 11.10 machine sometime
later. I thought I'd add this update.

[Bug 834391] [NEW] PDFs are not printed correctly

2011-08-25 Thread Arvind
Public bug reported:

PDFs printed from Evince have large overlapping text with improper
formatting as seen in the attached picture (There is some text printed
on the opposite side of the sheet which also turned up in the scanned
image, sorry about that). This happens for all PDF files, I have not
tested with any non pdf files.

Adobe reader prints the same files fine. LibreOffice also has no
problems printing. I have tried purge/reinstalling CUPS, the printer
driver and evince. The printer model is an Epson Stylus NX420. The
language is US english.

Please let me know if you need more information.

[Bug 727168] [NEW] iagno screen too small sometimes

2011-03-01 Thread Arvind S Raj
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-games

I installed iagno and found that sometimes it runs with the window size
small and sometimes large. I tried purging and reinstalling-it sometimes
sized large and sometimes small. This is particularly annoying since a
window resize isn't possible. But, this error isn't related about window
resizing but rather the window size not remaining constant. I'm
attaching two screenshots that show both cases.

ProblemType: Bug

Jonathan,
If you are interested in packaging, do continue-I might not be able to get it
included in Ubuntu by feature freeze. I will try to but you should also try-got
a few academic commitments popping up :(. Same with acire as well.

[Bug 693536] Re: Distribution series hardcoded for installing Fluendo plug-in

2011-02-19 Thread Arvind S Raj
A solution to this would be to use the code of lsb_release to determine the
codename. After determining the codename,
   PARTNER_LIST = canonical-partner-maverick.list  (line
59 in umusicstore/MusicStoreWidget.py)
would change to
  PARTNER_LIST = canonical-partner- + codename + .list
and
  dist=maverick
(line 439 in umusicstore/MusicStoreWidget.py)
would change to
  dist=codename.

Or is there any better alternative?

[Bug 692683] [NEW] System restarts after hibernate/suspend instead of resume

2010-12-20 Thread Arvind S Raj
Public bug reported:

I am running Ubuntu 10.10 64bit on a Sony Vaio VGN-FW260J. When i try to
resume from suspend or hibernate, my computer restarts instead. The
following error was shown just before the system shut down after i
issued the hibernate command.

[157.200744] [drm:init_ring_common] *ERROR* render ring head not reset to zero
ctl 0 head 02001000 tail  start 02001000
[157.200744] [drm:init_ring_common] *ERROR* render ring head forced to zero ctl
 head  tail  start 02001000

However, no errors are shown when system is suspended. The behaviour of
the system is same as what happens when I suspend/hibernate-the power
button light blinks for suspend and system shuts down for hibernate but
cannot resume.

I hibernated my system three times and can confirm that the same error
is shown all three times.

I will gladly provide any more information that will be of use.

In comment #4, i meant /proc/version_signature not
/proc/versioni_signature. Typo on my part.

[Bug 659362] Re: Subversion 1.6.13 security update

2010-12-20 Thread Arvind S Raj
Checked debian they are still on 1.6.12-same version as Ubuntu. Current
upstream version 1.6.15 with a lot of changes
(http://svn.apache.org/repos/asf/subversion/trunk/CHANGES). Should
1.6.15 be used? or just patch the security hole by using 1.6.13?

[Bug 604809] Re: upowerd crashed with SIGSEGV in idevice_get_uuid()

2010-12-16 Thread Arvind S Raj
Is this in package upower or is it libimobiledevice seeing that the
crash occurs in the function in /usr/lib/libimobiledevice.so.1? Also,
couldn't find a function of the name in the source code of upower so
have greater reason to suspect otherwise.

[Bug 690906] [NEW] apt reports wrong bazaar link to software center's code

2010-12-15 Thread Arvind S Raj
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: apt

I wanted to browse the source code of software center and so did the
following.

arv...@dnivra:~/test/software center$ apt-get source software-center
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
NOTICE: 'software-center' packaging is maintained in the 'Bzr' version control
system at:
https://code.launchpad.net/~software-center-developers/software-center/3.0
Please use:
bzr get
https://code.launchpad.net/~software-center-developers/software-center/3.0
to retrieve the latest (possibly unreleased) updates to the package.
Need to get 630kB of source archives.
0% [Connecting to archive.ubuntu.com (91.189.92.170)]^C

Following that bzr maintains the code, i tried that link it suggested
only to get the following error.

arv...@dnivra:~/test/software center$ bzr get
https://code.launchpad.net/~software-center-developers/software-center/3.0
bzr: ERROR: Not a branch:
https://code.launchpad.net/~software-center-developers/software-center/3.0/;.

It should either report bzr get https://code.launchpad.net/~ubuntu-
branches/ubuntu/natty/software-center/natty which is the current
development or bzr get https://code.launchpad.net/~ubuntu-
branches/ubuntu/maverick/software-center/maverick since I run ubuntu
10.10. This should seriously be fixed-apt should give right launchpad
links.

A thought that could arise here would be to also change all the bzr
get to bzr branch, if the code is hosted in launchpad. For example,
bzr branch lp:ubuntu/maverick/software-center instead of bzr get
https://code.launchpad.net/~ubuntu-branches/ubuntu/maverick/software-
center/maverick-the former is smaller and easier to memorize.

[Bug 647045] Re: apt-cache rdepends returns cryptic error message

2010-12-06 Thread Arvind S Raj
Not just apt-cache rdepends, even depends returns the same error. Perhaps the
error returned by other options i.e.
 N: Unable to locate package package name
could be printed instead.

[Bug 665445] [NEW] bzr preferences window crashes

2010-10-22 Thread Arvind S Raj
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: bzr

I am using Ubuntu 10.10. When I try to open the bzr preferences window
from System-Preferences, nothing happens. Accessing it from the
command line (bzr gpreferences) gives the following output.

bzr: ERROR: Unable to determine your name.
Please, set your name with the 'whoami' command.
E.g. bzr whoami Your Name n...@example.com

Perhaps a notification should be displayed saying that the name is not
set. Or perhaps a pop-up window could ask for the name and email, set
the details by executing the command and then show the preferences
window. Some form of feedback has to be given else nobody will ever
understand what is going on-it took me some time to realize that the
application is perhaps crashing.

[Bug 487631] Re: clamdscan clamav-daemon error

This might solve this problem: grant executable permissions to
thedirectory containing the files. clamdscan will be able to scan it-
tested this in maverick(10.10) and it works.

 Upstart runs all shell scripts with set -e by default

IMHO, Upstart should also set -u by default.
