[Bug 1875015] Re: Ubuntu 20.04 and Displaylink is extremely slow
Additionally, I noticed this issue on Linuxmint 20 (Ulayana) release installed on a Lenovo T580 Thinkpad. The displays attached via USB3.0 (dell D3100) totally become stuttery and unusable. The Xserver fix provided by DisplayLink makes it useable (https://www.displaylink.com/downloads/file?d=310) (without and with laptop lid closed) but there are still a lot of stutters/lag overall. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1875015 Title: Ubuntu 20.04 and Displaylink is extremely slow To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/xorg-server/+bug/1875015/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1852183] Re: [X11] copy/paste (clipboard) is broken in Ubuntu 19.10 & 20.04
I have upgraded from ubuntu 19.10 to 20.04. I would like to report in both of these versions there is a problem with the copy-paste command. When we copy it does not paste. We have to redo this to paste it. Sometimes it pastes the previous item that has been copied. This is all across the programs used. It is not specific to any one program use. Also I confirm that this is a problem with Ubuntu OS as libre office when used in windows does not face this issue. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1852183 Title: [X11] copy/paste (clipboard) is broken in Ubuntu 19.10 & 20.04 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/df-libreoffice/+bug/1852183/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1873681] [NEW] Wireless card driver issue
Public bug reported: I own a Dell Vostro 3468 that came installed with ubuntu 16.04. The wireless card in this laptop i.e. "Qualcomm QCA9377" performs poorly on every linux distro. The link speed on linux is never more than "1 mbps" whereas on windows 10 it easily gives "10+ mbps" link speeds. Also signal strength is very poor on linux whereas on windows 10 I easily get full bars in signal. Moreover on linux "page cannot be found", could not connect to xyz site, slow download speeds are common whereas I have seen very high download speeds(50 mbps) on the same laptop running windows 10. So I can conclude that its a driver issue. I have had the same issue in Fedora 30, 31. On Ethernet I get great speeds(10 + mbps). Please provide a fix for this as this makes the experience worse, software downloads crash in between, websites open slow etc. ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 18.04 Package: linux-image-5.3.0-28-generic 5.3.0-28.30~18.04.1 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 5.3.0-28.30~18.04.1-generic 5.3.13 Uname: Linux 5.3.0-28-generic x86_64 ApportVersion: 2.20.9-0ubuntu7.9 Architecture: amd64 CasperVersion: 1.394.3 CurrentDesktop: ubuntu:GNOME Date: Sun Apr 19 17:02:58 2020 LiveMediaBuild: Ubuntu 18.04.4 LTS "Bionic Beaver" - Release amd64 (20200203.1) ProcEnviron: TERM=xterm-256color PATH=(custom, no user) XDG_RUNTIME_DIR= LANG=C.UTF-8 SHELL=/bin/bash SourcePackage: linux-signed-hwe UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install) ** Affects: linux-signed-hwe (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: amd64 apport-bug bionic ** Attachment added: "wireless statistics" https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1873681/+attachment/5356826/+files/Screenshot%20from%202020-04-19%2017-19-12.png -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1873681 Title: Wireless card driver issue To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux-signed-hwe/+bug/1873681/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1371591] Re: file not initialized to 0s under some conditions on VMWare
Hi Chris, This is Arvind Kumar from VMware. Recently the issue discussed in this bug was brought into VMware's notice. We looked at the patch (https://lkml.org/lkml/2014/9/23/509) which was done to address the issue. Since the patch is done in mptsas driver, it addresses the issue only on lsilogic controller, if user uses some other controller e.g. pvscsi or buslogic then the issue remains. Moreover the patch disables the WRITE SAME completely on the lsilogic which indicates that VMware will never be able to support WRITE SAME on lsilogic. As I understand from the bug, it is concluded that the WRITE SAME is not properly implemented by VMware. Actually we don't support WRITE SAME at all. We internally investigated the issue and as per our understanding the issue is not VMware specific and rather seems to be with the kernel, which could very well happen on real hardware too in case the disk doesn't support WRITE SAME command. Below are the details of the investigation by Petr Vandrovec. -- In blk-lib.c on line 294 it checks whether bdev supports write_same. With LVM, bdev here is dm-0. It says yes, it is supported, and so write_same is invoked (note that check is racy in case device loses write_same capability between test and moment bio is issued): 291 int blkdev_issue_zeroout(struct block_device *bdev, sector_t sector, 292 sector_t nr_sects, gfp_t gfp_mask) 293 { 294 if (bdev_write_same(bdev)) { 295 unsigned char bdn[BDEVNAME_SIZE]; 296 297 if (!blkdev_issue_write_same(bdev, sector, nr_sects, gfp_mask, 298 ZERO_PAGE(0))) 299 return 0; 300 301 bdevname(bdev, bdn); 302 pr_err(%s: WRITE SAME failed. Manually zeroing.\n, bdn); 303 } 304 305 return __blkdev_issue_zeroout(bdev, sector, nr_sects, gfp_mask); 306 } 307 EXPORT_SYMBOL(blkdev_issue_zeroout); Then it gets to LVM, and LVM forwards request to sda. When it fails, kernel clears bdev_write_same() on sda, and returns -121 (EREMOTEIO). Now next request comes. Nobody cleared bdev_write_same() on dm-0, it got cleared only on sda, so request gets to LVM, which forwards it to sda. Where it hits a snag in blk-core.c: 1824 if (bio-bi_rw REQ_WRITE_SAME !bdev_write_same(bio-bi_bdev)) { 1825 err = -EOPNOTSUPP; 1826 goto end_io; 1827 } bi_bdev here is sda, and I/O fails with EOPNOTSUPP, without WRITE_SAME ever being issued. And then it hits completion code that treats EOPNOTSUPP as success: 18 static void bio_batch_end_io(struct bio *bio, int err) 19 { 20 struct bio_batch *bb = bio-bi_private; 21 22 if (err (err != -EOPNOTSUPP)) 23 clear_bit(BIO_UPTODATE, bb-flags); 24 if (atomic_dec_and_test(bb-done)) 25 complete(bb-wait); 26 bio_put(bio); 27 } So everybody outside of blkdev_issue_write_same() thinks that I/O succeeded, while in reality kernel even did not issue request! Fix should: 1. Use different error code if WRITE_SAME request is thrown away. Or remove special EOPNOTSUPP handling from end_io - I assume EOPNOTSUPP is supposed to ignore failures from discarded commands, but then nobody else should be using EOPNOTSUPP, and 2. WRITE_SAME failure should propagate from sda to dm-0. -- Our understanding is that we should revert the fix in mptsas driver and try to do the right fix as described above. I am attaching the patch from Petr who did the investigation. CC'ing all involved people from VMware too. Could you please evaluate the patch and suggest on further steps? Thanks! [Bug 1203235] Re: [H87N-WIFI, Realtek ALC892, Green Line Out, Rear] Underruns, dropouts or crackling sound
Still seeing this on Ubuntu 13.10. The 2 steps mentioned in #13 do solve the problem. However, as a result the speakers don't mute when a headphone is plugged into front jack. I can confirm that plugging in headphones prevents the jack state from flapping. Also, when the state is flapping, the plugged in/out follow each other with 0.5 second delay. The jack never settles on plugged in when it is flapping. Could this bug be fixed by waiting ~0.5 second, before accepting a newly plugged in jack? [Bug 763457] Re: please provide opencl-icd virtual package

[Bug 763457] Re: please provide opencl-icd virtual package
Please do reconsider backporting this for stable releases because the current setup is completely broken and it's probably not a good idea to leave it thus since it takes quite a while to figure out what is going wrong. If it's likely it'll not be backported, please do consider informing users somehow that this package works with nVidia GPUs only. The package could be renamed as python-pyopencl-nvidia or a clause could be included in the description of the package saying it's for nVidia GPUs only. [Bug 692683] [NEW] System restarts after hibernate/suspend instead of resume
Public bug reported: I am running Ubuntu 10.10 64bit on a Sony Vaio VGN-FW260J. When i try to resume from suspend or hibernate, my computer restarts instead. The following error was shown just before the system shut down after i issued the hibernate command. [157.200744] [drm:init_ring_common] *ERROR* render ring head not reset to zero ctl 0 head 02001000 tail start 02001000 [157.200744] [drm:init_ring_common] *ERROR* render ring head forced to zero ctl head tail start 02001000 However, no errors are shown when system is suspended. The behaviour of the system is same as what happens when I suspend/hibernate-the power button light blinks for suspend and system shuts down for hibernate but cannot resume. I hibernated my system three times and can confirm that the same error is shown all three times. I will gladly provide any more information that will be of use.
