[Bug 686859] Re: Bootloader install failed cannot be closed
I managed to install Ubuntu onto my Intel Matrix RAID 0 using the alternative install disk after some further experimentation. Using Gparted I created a new MSDOS / MBR partition table and formatted the drives. Using an MBR partition table is important because GPT partition tables require the kpartx application to map the partitions. To my knowledge kpartx is not pre-installed in the altenative installation disk and programs cannot be installed on the fly like they can with live disks. I then booted into the alternative installation disk and manually formatted partitions as usual. Thankfully the alternative installer does not seem to have any problem installing GRUB. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/686859 Title: Bootloader install failed cannot be closed -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 686859] Re: Bootloader install failed cannot be closed
I have yet another variant of the same problem with final release 11.04. No matter what drive I select to install GRUB to, RAID or non-RAID, I always receive the message Executing 'grub-install /dev/sda' failed. This is a fatal error. It always attempts /dev/sda independent of my choice in previous menus. Then I reach the dialog the above users have been having trouble with. I click an option and then click OK and...nothing happens. If I reboot and try a fresh install again, sometimes it will let me select the Continue without a bootloader option, but then Ubiquity crashes and I am left with almost nothing in the home folder of my new installation. Therefore right now I cannot install Natty until this is resolved.
[Bug 737027] Re: kpartx udev rule is broken
I believe Philip may be incorrect about the dmraid rule not belonging. I have a RAID 5 disk with a GPT partition table. When only dmraid runs, my drive is listed in /dev/mapper/drive but not its partitions. If I then run 'kpartx -a /dev/mapper/drive' then my two partitions appear as /dev/mapper/drive1 and /dev/mapper/drive2 which can both be mounted. Therefore kpartx must run even after dmraid already added the tables since dmraid cannot handle GPT partition tables. Note that you are right that this is not needed for standard MBR tables. When I changed the case in the dmraid rule from 'dmraid-*' to 'DMRAID-*' I can now mount my partitions via /etc/fstab using UUID as per usual. However, this causes a duplication of mappings for my disks with MBR. Is there a way to make this rule only fire for disks with GPT? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to multipath-tools in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/737027 Title: kpartx udev rule is broken -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs
[Bug 737027] Re: kpartx udev rule is broken
After additional testing, I have determined that the UUID for MBR disks are duplicated across two mappings and that the regular mapping is dysfunctional. Thus for MBR disks I must point to /dev/mapper rather than use UUID. Again, this could be fixed if we could only fire the rule for GPT disks.

[Bug 403743] [NEW] word doc incorrectly formatted for weird margin offsets
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: openoffice.org On the first page of the attached document, Problem 1b, the document is not formatted correctly (rows and columns collapse together). In MS Office 2007, it displays properly with rows and columns aligned. Note that this is not a DOCX file, but a generic DOC. I am not certain which version of MS Office produced it. [Bug 403743] Re: word doc incorrectly formatted for weird margin offsets
In case I wasn't clear, MS Office 2007 creates a CC10 column to the right in the problem 1b table, while OpenOffice merges the instruction column (the column with words) with the CC10 column such that they overlap. I had to manually fix this in OpenOffice by widely increasing the margins of the page and then altering the margin offset of the table. -- word doc incorrectly formatted for weird margin offsets https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/403743 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 285998] Re: Deleting ~/Templates and rebooting makes a change in ~/.config/user-dirs.dirs
I am a relatively new Ubuntu user and have the same problem. I deleted my Templates folder, thinking it was superfluous like the Music, Video, etc. folders, but as I began to use Ubuntu I realized that a document template feature existed in the right-click menu and I wanted use it. My first instinct was to search in the templates right-click menu for assistance, but none was found. My next action was to check the Help and Support manual, which specifies that you simply have to create documents in $HOME/Templates. I tried recreating the Templates folder and putting a document in it with no result. If I was a novice to computers, this would be my I need to reinstall my OS or I need to call my computer savvy nephew moment. Since I am no novice, I checked out Ubuntu's bug system and lo' and behold several bug reports on this issue exist accompanied by a solution for those with a smidge of Linux skills. I think this is a problem that an ordinary person could be expected to accidentally cause by fiddling with their home directory (after all, for many new users that folder is a sandbox). To me the best solution is to implement an 'assistance' option in the right click templates menu for someone to reestablish their templates directory in the event that XDG_TEMPLATES_DIR=$HOME/. This would help both computer novice and Ubuntu newcommer alike. Of course, this may not be simple from a programming viewpoint, so my solution may not be feasible as the code stands. In the short term, help offered when using Go-Templates may be of use, but I believe that most users will not look here as, from experience, I have found that few users even realize there is a Go menu in Windows, much less in Ubuntu. -- Deleting ~/Templates and rebooting makes a change in ~/.config/user-dirs.dirs https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/285998 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
