[Bug 2055330] Re: Wireshark 4.2.2 is broken, please update to 4.2.3

2024-02-28 Thread Balint Reczey
Hi,

Uploads to unstable are blocked by the 64bit-time transition in Debian:
https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=1063071

The 4.2.3 is already prepared, it is just waiting for the transtion to
finish.

Cheers,
Balint

[Bug 1966238] Re: progress during dpkg-deb build

2022-03-27 Thread Balint Reczey
By a quick glance zstd _compression_ is still single threaded. Switching
it to be multi-threaded may help with the timeout. I planned doing that
(with the kernel builds in mind) and the idea was switching
decompress_zstd() in dpkg to use the zstd command instead of libzstd's
API.

[Bug 1960334] Re: Missing dependency in wireshark-dev

2022-02-08 Thread Balint Reczey
Hi Christian,

The new 3.6.0-based package in jammy-proposed does not list those extra
dependencies in WiresharkTargets.cmake.
I'll upload 3.6.2 to Debian soon which may migrate in jammy.

[Bug 1927192] Re: gdb ftbfs on armhf, testsuite timeouts

2021-06-02 Thread Balint Reczey
@doko Not stripping ld.so on Focal came with an increase of ld.so from
110K to 1.3M. I don't think this is an acceptable increase when pulling
in libc6-dbg also fixes the problem.

See the test package here: https://launchpad.net/~ci-train-ppa-
service/+archive/ubuntu/4570

** Description changed:

  [Impact]

  * Gdb can't set some breakpoints in ld.so on armhf when libc6-dbg is not
  installed.

[Bug 1930473] [NEW] select in gilbc 2.33 does not always set select timeout in Hirsute

2021-06-01 Thread Balint Reczey
Public bug reported:

[Impact]
* Not updating select's timeout breaks topline's autopkgtest and possibly other
software. https://github.com/kilobyte/topline/issues/1

[Test Plan]

* Run Groovy's topline's autopkgtest, it should pass:

  $ autopkgtest -U topline_0.3-1.dsc --apt-pocket=proposed=src:glibc --
lxd autopkgtest/ubuntu/hirsute/amd64

[Where problems could occur]

* The fix removes obsolete checks that prevented updating the returned
timeout. There are no unexpected side effects from this.

[Bug 1926355] Re: Snap applications segfault with new core20 (rev: 1015+)

2021-06-01 Thread Balint Reczey

+
+ [Test Plan]

+ snap run test-snapd-rsync-core20.rsync

+ * The previous glibc update (2.31-0ubuntu9.3) had a fix (LP: #1914044)
+ that broke snaps bundling a previous version of glibc (2.31-0ubuntu9.2)
+ due to them being incompatible. The fix of LP: #1914044 is reverted and
+ 2.31-0ubuntu9.4 does not include changes incompatible with

[Bug 1927192] Re: gdb ftbfs on armhf, testsuite timeouts

@doko since the problem is arm-specific I don't want to deviate from the
default stripping on architectures where it is not necessary. Not that
the 28k would be so huge, but for the sake of not changing what was
already good.

/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libc.so.6
(*): Shared library is missing debugging information.

As far as I can tell, this is happening because libc6-dbg installs ld-2.31.so
into the wrong place:

  dpkg -L libc6-dbg | grep /ld-2.31
  /usr/lib/debug/lib/libc6-prof/x86_64-linux-gnu/ld-2.31.so
  /usr/lib/debug/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/ld-2.31.so

Since ld-linux resolves to /lib64/ld-linux-x86-64.so.2, GDB looks for
debug symbols in the following paths:

  /lib64/.debug/ld-2.31.so
  /usr/lib/debug/lib64/ld-2.31.so
  /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/.debug/ld-2.31.so
  /usr/lib/debug/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/ld-2.31.so
  /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/.debug/ld-2.31.so
  /usr/lib/debug/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/ld-2.31.so

None of these matches the actual installed path, so debug symbols are
  not loaded.

P.S. Manually adding symbols via add-symbol-file
  /usr/lib/debug/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/ld-2.31.so works fine, but this
  should be automatic.

  P.P.S. After running

  sudo mkdir

[Bug 1914044] Re: [SRU] gstreamer fails with "cannot allocate memory in static TLS block" error on aarch64

2021-05-31 Thread Balint Reczey
** Description changed:

  [Impact]

gstreamer cannot load some plugins on 20.04, aarch64 due to TLS memory
exhaustion, so these plugins cannot be used. See LP: #1846837 and LP:
  #1914030.

This is solved apparently on glibc 2.32:
  https://sourceware.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=25051
  by patch

https://sourceware.org/git/gitweb.cgi?p=glibc.git;h=ffb17e7ba3a5ba9632cee97330b325072fbe41dd

  [Test Case]

Running totem-video-thumbnailer shows TLS error in the version not
fixed, generates thumbnail with the fixed version:

  $ sudo apt -y install totem gstreamer1.0-libav
  ...
  $ wget
https://ia800201.us.archive.org/12/items/BigBuckBunny_328/BigBuckBunny_512kb.mp4
  ...
  $ totem-video-thumbnailer BigBuckBunny_512kb.mp4 thumbnail.png
  ...
  (totem-video-thumbnailer:3602): GStreamer-WARNING **: 18:36:10.466: Failed to
load plugin '/usr/lib/aarch64-linux-gnu/gstreamer-1.0/libgstlibav.so':
/lib/aarch64-linux-gnu/libgomp.so.1: cannot allocate memory in static TLS block
  ...

  [Where problems could occur]

This is delicate code in glibc with quite regression potential. Said
this, the code is in the next major release (2.32, while focal has
2.31), which has been running groovy for a while.

Also, apparently there is a 2.31 patch for groovy, before it moved to
  2.32: https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=964141

Regressions in 2.31-0ubuntu9.3 have been observed in LP: #1926379 and
- LP: #1926387.
+ LP: #1926355.

[Bug 1914044] Re: [SRU] gstreamer fails with "cannot allocate memory in static TLS block" error on aarch64

2021-05-20 Thread Balint Reczey
This fix proved to be too intrusive to be released via focal-updates. It
requires an immediate restart of services and a reboot which can't be
guaranteed if the fix is included in a later update released into the
focal-security pocket.
I'm preparing 2.31-0ubuntu9.4 _without_ this fix but including other fixes
which are safe to release to Focal.
In addition to requiring an immediate reboot the fix also breaks snaps bundling
glibc without this fix when they are run with an updated core20 snap including
this fix.

[Bug 1919177] Re: Azure: issues with accelerated networking on Hirsute

2021-05-18 Thread Balint Reczey
@gjolly There were networking-related changes in systemd which could have
caused this but I also see that the kernel packages also changed between the
Azure images:
-ii linux-image-azure 5.8.0.1017.19+21.04.14
...
+ii linux-image-5.8.0-1022-azure 5.8.0-1022.24+21.04.2

Could you please prepare an image that has the older kernel and newer
systemd to rule out kernel changes causing the issue?

Also do you still observe the issue in Impish? It has systemd 248 now.

[Bug 1928856] [NEW] Please update to upstream release 20210429.00

2021-05-18 Thread Balint Reczey
Public bug reported:

[Impact]

Google-compute-engine-oslogin is provided by Google for installation
within guests that run on Google Compute Engine. It part of the
collection of tools and daemons originally packaged as gce-compute-
image-packages, that ensure that the Ubuntu images published to GCE run
properly on their platform.

Cloud platforms evolve at a rate that can't be handled in six-month
increments, and they will often develop features that they would like to
be available to customers who don't want to upgrade from earlier Ubuntu
releases. As such, updating google-compute-engine-oslogin to more recent
upstream releases is required within all Ubuntu releases, so they
continue to function properly in their environment.

[Test Case]

When a new version of google-compute-engine-oslogin is uploaded to
-proposed, the following will be done:

 * an image based on -proposed will be built for GCE and published to the
ubuntu-os-cloud-devel project
 * the CPC team will write new automated tests to cover new testable
functionality (if any) in the new package
 * the automated testing that the CPC team normally runs against GCE images
before they are published will be run against the -proposed image
 * the GCE team will be asked to validate that the new package addresses the
issues it is expected to address, and that the image passes their internal
image validation.

If all the testing indicates that the image containing the new package
is acceptable, verification will be considered to be done.

[Other Information]

This bug is used for tracking of releasing the new upstream version for
all supported series, as per the approved policy mentioned in the
following MRE:

https://wiki.ubuntu.com/gce-compute-image-packages-Updates.

[Bug 1926660] Re: autopkgtests fail due to new update-motd snippet

2021-05-18 Thread Balint Reczey
@laney Sorry, I have not seen your comment #8 before writing mine. I did
consider writing an autodep8 test, but it seemed to be overkill due the small
amount of packages to use it.
Now with the appearance of this bug I've reconsidered that and autodep8 would
be better to ensure good coverage than the apt-file based check.

[Bug 1928202] Re: Please remove1.1.4.0+dfsg-1 from impish

I'm not just updating the package to the new upstream release because
Debian is in freeze and the new release contains a lot of new embedded
files which need to be checked/excluded.

[Bug 1928202] [NEW] Please remove1.1.4.0+dfsg-1 from impish

2021-05-12 Thread Balint Reczey
Public bug reported:

Autopkgtests started failing in the release pocket:

https://autopkgtest.ubuntu.com/packages/r/r-cran-treespace/impish/s390x

The fix is in the new upstream release:
https://github.com/thibautjombart/treespace/commit/3abe05e9beb26149b0fda2f8e75e4aeab6cda9f2

rbalint@yogi:~$ reverse-depends r-cran-treespace
No reverse dependencies found
rbalint@yogi:~$ reverse-depends -b r-cran-treespace
No reverse dependencies found

The failing autopkgtest holds back glibc from migration.

R-bioc-monocle suggests r-cran-seurat, thus the monocle autopkgtest

Most likely the ppc64el tests would also pass with more RAM.

I've fixed the reference to /etc/cron.daily/mdadm in 4.1-11ubuntu1
because it is already honored by mdmonitor-oneshot.service , but
AUTOCHECK should be honored by the other servicing replacing the cron

[Bug 1926660] Re: autopkgtests fail due to new update-motd snippet

2021-05-06 Thread Balint Reczey
@paelzer I've uploaded update-motd adding ubuntu-advantage-tools as a
test dependency, because it is accidental that it is already installed
on test images.

The apt-file check is not ideal, because it lists packages which are in
-proposed but pinning does not allow them to be installed. As a mitigation I've
retried all affected tests with ubuntu-advantage-tools also added as a trigger.
The apt-file results could be filtered by taking pinning
into consideration, but this would not be perfect easily either, thus I think
it is not worth it.

Yes, SRU-ing a test-only fix is not ideal either. The tests are there to
ensure that update-motd scripts can be run as a normal user which is
done on WSL: https://balintreczey.hu/blog/introducing-show-motd-message-
of-the-day-for-wsl-and-container-shells/ . An alternative of testing
every script by update-motd would be generating similar tests for every
package shipping and update-motd script.

[Bug 1926660] Re: autopkgtests fail due to new update-motd snippet

2021-05-06 Thread Balint Reczey
@paelzer IMO Ubuntu CI not upgrading all packages (-U) by default is a
bug because it tests a partially upgraded system (which is not
supported) and may even test packages which are not present anymore in
the archive (because they are superseded by a newer version).

[Bug 1926355] Re: Snap applications segfault with new core20 (rev: 1015+)

2021-05-05 Thread Balint Reczey
Core20 (1026) now works, but I believe shipping libc in test-snapd-
rsync-core20, too, is not healthy and will break again when core20's
glibc gets upgraded.

[Bug 1926355] Re: Snap applications segfault with new core20 (rev: 1015+)

2021-05-05 Thread Balint Reczey
OK, I've tested it in clean multipass VMs and test-snapd-rsync-
core20.rsync does not work on Bionic, Focal and later. Interestingly it
ships a local copy of libc6 inside that could be the problem and it
worked on Focal for some time due to accidentally matching the host's
libc6.

Reading

For the record test-snapd-rsync-core18.rsync does not ship and internal libc
copy and does work on all releases I tried (Bionic, Focal).

It is great that the failures don't prevent migration of other packages

not be:
