[Bug 778200] Re: [CA0106 - CA0106, playback] No sound at all

2011-06-29 Thread Bapf
If the card is set in the sound preferences or not doesn't really matter
in regard to this problem because you don't event get sound if you do
the speaker test in the sound settings (which should always work
regardless of what card is set as default). This should also be related
to bug #766500

Using the onboard card isn't a suitable workaround - at least in my case
- because then I won't have 5.1.

But the onboard card seems to be connected to the problem because
everybody I've seen having this problem (in there various bugs here in
the bug tracker and also in the Answers-section) seems to have more than
just the Soundblaster soundcard in his PC.

Also don't understand how this problem should be related to reverse
engineering the protocol because the card worked up until a certain
point, so the protocol had to be correct.

[Bug 778200] Re: [CA0106 - CA0106, playback] No sound at all

2011-06-29 Thread Bapf
Has anyone already checked if it could be related to

One quirky (but permanent) workaround is to enable the old oss modules,
specifically the 100% sound blaster compatible module (sb). You don't have to
load the oss modules. The alsa module snd-ca0106 works fine somehow if the old
sb module is compiled in the kernel as a module (no white noise).
http://www.alsa-project.org/main/index.php/Matrix:Vendor-Creative_Labs

meaning if maybe this module got removed from the kernel?

Got the same problem.
Both with the actual bcmwl, the old version and also the firmware-b43-installer.

As soon as I try to turn the Wifi on it instantly gets turned off again
(on a Acer Travelmate TimelineX 8172T) which looks this in
/var/log/syslog

Apr 30 12:29:36 kahlan NetworkManager[861]: info WiFi now enabled by radio

(Note: This is just _one_ keypress.)

On Maverick all worked fine.

If this is broadcomms fault and not on Ubunts side: Isn't there any way
to include the working state from maverick into natty?

[Bug 766500] [NEW] Gnome Volume Control crashes in Natty beta2 LiveCD on Test Speakers with CA0106

2011-04-19 Thread Bapf
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-media

When using the 11.04 beta2 LiveCD as soon as I try Test Speakers on my CA0106
Soundblaster the Sound Preferences program crashes. (Sound over this card isn't
working either. The card itself works - verified in Windows 7 and Fedora 15
beta LiveCD)

Soundcard and HDMI-Audio-Controller of the graphics card) is working.

2011-04-03 Thread Bapf
I've have the same problem since a kernel update in 10.10 (don't know which one
sadly).
The soundcard is recognized without errors but any try to play sound fails
(e.g. in the test speakers window in the sound preferences).

The problem is still there after upgrading to 11.04 beta and even with
the 11.04 beta live cd.

[Bug 615859] Re: Select windows when the mouse moves over them is incompatible with global menu bar

2011-04-01 Thread Bapf
Wouldn't an option to disable the global menubar (as suggested in bug
#734325) be the better solution?

Focus follows mouse is and has ever been an integral part of using a
graphical environment in Linux. I agree that most of the switchers
probably don't use it but don't let forget that this was was the default
behavior of most window mangers in the past. (And last I looked Ubuntu
still was a Linux derivate, not a MacOS X clone.)

Another point for making the global menubar disableable is that while it
may be good to have the menu always at the same position it definitely
increases the mouse paths which can also be quite counterproductive. (At
least with a decent screen.)

And yes, I know the global menubar can be disabled by removing
libappmenu.so, but an config option would be a cleaner way.

I have a similar Problem:

As soon as I turn on the desktop effects my window decorations are gone (they
