Please can you state your Xfce Power Manager version:

$ xfce4-power-manager -V

Mine is Xfce Power Manager 1.2.0

Also, please can you try a reboot, then make sure those settings have
persisted, and test again?

The Property logind-handle-lid-switch should be Type Boolean and the

[Bug 1357090] Re: Black screen on resume Xubuntu 14.04.1 #1303736 NOT fixed

2014-08-18 Thread Barnabas Prosser
GUI options:

/xfce4-power-manager/lid-action-on-ac 1 = Power Manager, On AC, When laptop lid
is closed: Suspend
/xfce4-power-manager/lid-action-on-battery 1 = Power Manager, On Batttery, When
laptop lid is closed: Suspend
/xfce4-power-manager/lock-screen-suspend-hibernate true = Power Manager,
Extended, Lock screen when going for suspend/hibernate
/xfce4-power-manager/logind-handle-lid-switch false = Whisker menu, All
Settings, Light Locker Settings, Lock on suspend: On, Apply - by setting this
option, it sets logind-handle-lid-switch to false, and
lock-screen-suspend-hibernate to true.

My problem occurred when setting Light Locker Settings, Lock on suspend:
Off, Apply then setting Power Manager, Extended, Lock screen when going
for suspend/hibernate to ticked - this sets both lock-screen-suspend-
hibernate and logind-handle-lid-switch to true and I get a locked black
screen on wake, after suspend from closing laptop lid.

If that hasn't fixed it for you, it appears we may have seperate
problems but similar symptoms.

One last thing I can think of for you to try:

Whisker menu, All Settings, Light Locker Settings, turn Lock on
suspend Off, hit Apply, turn Lock on suspend On, hit Apply.

Reboot and re-test.

[Bug 1357090] Re: Black screen on resume Xubuntu 14.04.1 #1303736 NOT fixed

2014-08-18 Thread Barnabas Prosser
I have had this problem as well when locking the screen on suspend/lid
close with Xubuntu 14.04.1 (with all updates applied) while using light-
locker for the lock screen.

If using JUST the light-locker-settings, then only one setting is set,
and no issue:

Setting Lock on suspend in light-locker-settings to On:
xfce4-settings-editor (Channel: xfce4-power-manager)
lock-screen-suspend-hiberate = ticked
logind-handle-lid-switch = unticked

Locks via xflock4 on command line, Whisker Lock Screen button, Whisker
Log Out button then Suspend, and on lid close (if When laptop lid is
closed: Suspend is set in xfce4-power-manager-settings under On AC
and On Battery).

Setting Lock on suspend in light-locker-settings to Off:
xfce4-settings-editor (Channel: xfce4-power-manager)
lock-screen-suspend-hiberate = unticked
logind-handle-lid-switch = ticked

Problem occurs when:

Setting Lock on suspend in light-locker-settings to Off
THEN
Setting Lock screen when going for suspend/hibernate to ticked in All
Settings, Power Manager, Extended

xfce4-settings-editor (Channel: xfce4-power-manager)
lock-screen-suspend-hiberate = ticked
logind-handle-lid-switch = ticked

Having both these settings ticked causes a locked black screen on wake,
after suspend from closing laptop lid. Pressing power off key - after
approx 5 seconds the laptop switches off uncleanly. When switching back
on, a disk check is ran.

Solution:

Do NOT use Setting Lock screen when going for suspend/hibernate in All
Settings, Power Manager, Extended

Set Lock on suspend in light-locker-settings to Off, click Apply, then
set to On, click Apply.

For users that have uninstalled light-locker and light-locker-settings,
and installed xscreensaver - to lock on lid close, both settings need to
be set:

xfce4-settings-editor (Channel: xfce4-power-manager)
lock-screen-suspend-hibernate = ticked
logind-handle-lid-swtich = ticked

Question:

Could there be a solution so that both settings CAN'T be set when
running light-locker / light-locker-settings (as default), but both
settings CAN be set for users that want to use xscreensaver instead of
light-locker?

[Bug 1338973] Re: scrolling unusable, touchpad too sensitive

2014-07-16 Thread Barnabas Prosser
Thanks aljosa - I followed your link and clicked Technical details
about this PPA which gives you the URL to the .deb's -
http://ppa.launchpad.net/kubuntu-
ppa/experimental/ubuntu/pool/main/t/touchpad/

I'm using amd64 so downloaded both kde-touch-config and kde-touch-dbg
amd64 .deb's. Then removed existing kde-touchpad and kde-touchpad-dbg:

sudo apt-get remove --purge kde-touchpad
sudo apt-get remove --purge kde-touchpad-dbg

Then installed the downloaded newer versions:

sudo dpkg -i
kde-touchpad-config_0.1+git20140616+r314~9db1cb9+2~ubuntu14.04.1_amd64.deb
sudo dpkg -i
kde-touchpad-config-dbg_0.1+git20140616+r314~9db1cb9+2~ubuntu14.04.1_amd64.deb

Has fixed it for me.

[Bug 295512] Re: Hot reboot freeze on HP 8510w - Ubuntu 8.10

2012-08-20 Thread Barnabas
I think you misunderstand my initial bug report.

Hot / cold reboot has got nothing to do with the operating temperature
of the system.

1) A hot reboot is when you select reboot in what ever system you are
running.

2) A cold reboot is when you power of the system completely. And then
restart.

The temperature of my cpu has never been an issue.

[Bug 927065] Re: Firefox 10.0 crashes when visiting a website with a java applet

2012-03-16 Thread Barnabas
I disagree - yes there may be an error in the icedtea plugin but this is
really poor errorhandling in firefox

Assertion failure: rt-onOwnerThread(), at
/build/buildd/firefox-11.0+build1/build-
tree/mozilla/js/src/jsapi.cpp:6317

Simply catching that error could avoid the browser crashing down
alltogether. Perhaps even display some kind of sensible error message -
A plugin has made an error or something.

[Bug 813343] Re: nvidia drivers, second monitor covered by black

2011-10-16 Thread Barnabas
@Axel

Thank you!

This made Gnome-Shell (v3) work with twinview on my Lenovo W520 running
discrete graphics only.

Unity still breaks down when twinview is started.

[Bug 875642] Re: [428449G, Conexant CX20590, Speaker, Internal] No sound at all

2011-10-16 Thread Barnabas
It seems the system (ubuntu) mute and the hw (Lenovo) mute status'es can
get out of sync. For example the sound applets shows no mute and the hw
mute lamp does. And vice verca.

Work around:

Set the hardware and the applet to mute off (sound on) - reboot. The
status is now in sync for the mute setting.

It seems to be the software, that fails to set the hw status. Selecting
mute in the applet does not update hw.

Setting mute on hw correctly updates software.

[Bug 295512] Re: Hot reboot freeze on HP 8510w - Ubuntu 8.10

2009-07-15 Thread Barnabas
The issue is also on the latest 9.04.

However I think I accidently solved this. Follow these steps:

1) boot laptop normally.

2) Go into hibernation

3) Start from hibernation

4) reboot pc immediatly after restart from hibernation

5) PC now does not hang, but boots just fine

I am more and more convinced that the Intel VPro chipset is on LSD.

It would be nice to hear if this solves the issue for anyone else.

with regards

Nikolaj Hansen

[Bug 295512] Re: Hot reboot freeze on HP 8510w

2008-11-10 Thread Barnabas
** Description changed:

  Hi,

My laptop hangs during warm reboot when I reboot the new 8.10 Intepid
Ibex. The regular bios is loaded and the system then hangs when trying
to load the Intel bios extensions. The system is a newer HP 8510w.

The problem was non existing on 8.04.

My layman guess would be that there is some memory conflict when doing a
warm reboot on the system, and the bios extension does not load.

A cold reboot (power off) solves the problem as a work around.

  See attached file

  regards

+
+ Update:
+
+ I now flashed the laptop with the latest bios and extensions. The fault
+ remains the same.
