[Bug 2065074] Re: WIFI & Bluethooth at fresh install of Kubuntu 24.04 LTS. «Hard blocks» gone. «Soft blocks» for Bluetooth only.
UPDATE AND SUMMARY 11 MAY 2024, 12.00 CEST. Be reassured. Right now, I am writing this message under my veranda in my garden, while using Wi-Fi. Thanks God, this is possible now. Hallelujah! The core issue in this context is a tiny switch at the left front side of my laptop - Lenovo X230, product Name: 2325AZ8, Serial Number: R9XTT6X. I bought this device late March 2024. Then, I thought the switch was related to opening and closing the lid of the laptop. After watching one of the videos you showed me yesterday, it became clear to me that the switch was related to turning off and on Wi-Fi. The hard block has been caused by the switch in the off position. The devil is in the detail. About Bluethooth... I have checked this page https://askubuntu.com/questions/1465957/bluetooth-manager-not- connecting-to-devices-after-upgrading-to-ubuntu-23-04 This story is a good summary of my Bluethooth experience about one month ago, when I was still at Kubuntu 22.04.4 LTS along with the same laptop at which I am working now. Also in my case, connections with «trusted» devices were constantly being interrupted. I have carried out the advises I found there - however, it does not or not yet work out. Like this, I have tried to get rid of the «soft block» that still prevents Bluetooth from working properly. bas@Camino:~$ rfkill unblock 0 bas@Camino:~$ Let's test now... bas@Camino:~$ rfkill list 0: tpacpi_bluetooth_sw: Bluetooth Soft blocked: yes Hard blocked: no 1: phy0: Wireless LAN Soft blocked: no Hard blocked: no Wi-Fi is absolutely fine now. Bluetooth - no hard block, but the «soft» block still persists. Now, I try this Systemsettings -> "Bluetooth" -> "Enable" and then either "Add New Device…" or "Configure…". I also tried the same by clicking the Bluethooth applet right down under. In both case: no success yet. I have tried to enable Bluetooth several times like this. Now, I had a device with me I wanted to add However, I already get stuck when trying to enable Bluetooth. «Adding a new device» is still not possible. Provisional conclusion for now Wi-Fi works absolutely fine now. No hard blocks and also no soft blocks. The hard blocks have been removed for Bluethooth too. However, I still do not yet manage to get Bluethooth enabled by lifting it's «soft» blacks. ** Summary changed: - WIFI & Bluethooth at fresh install of Kubuntu 24.04 LTS. «Hard blocks» gone. «Soft blocks» for Bluetooth only. + WIFI & Bluethooth at fresh install of Kubuntu 24.04 LTS. «Hard blocks» gone, WiFi works OK now. «Soft blocks» still disable Bluetooth. ** Summary changed: - WIFI & Bluethooth at fresh install of Kubuntu 24.04 LTS. «Hard blocks» gone, WiFi works OK now. «Soft blocks» still disable Bluetooth. + Wi-Fi & Bluetooth at fresh install of Kubuntu 24.04 LTS. «Hard blocks» gone, Wi-Fi works OK now. «Soft blocks» still disable Bluetooth. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2065074 Title: Wi-Fi & Bluetooth at fresh install of Kubuntu 24.04 LTS. «Hard blocks» gone, Wi-Fi works OK now. «Soft blocks» still disable Bluetooth. WIFI issue solved, however Bluetooth not yet. This video has helped to solve the WIFI issue: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vvzFYP8WjXo A tiny switch at the front side of the laptop had turned off the WIFI function. I switched the switch back to the on positition - from that moment on, it was no problem any more to enable WIFI. Terminal tests points in the same direction.. bas@Camino:~$ iw dev phy#0 Interface wlp3s0 ifindex 3 wdev 0x1 addr 9c:4e:36:aa:5c:d0 ssid ArcoBaleno type managed channel 11 (2462 MHz), width: 20 MHz, center1: 2462 MHz txpower 15.00 dBm multicast TXQ: qsz-byt qsz-pkt flows drops marks overlmt hashcol tx-bytestx-packets 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 bas@Camino:~$ sudo ip link set wlp3s0 up bas@Camino:~$ Now I check both WIFI and Bluethooth... bas@Camino:~$ rfkill list 0: tpacpi_bluetooth_sw: Bluetooth Soft blocked: yes Hard blocked: no 1: phy0: Wireless LAN Soft blocked: no Hard blocked: no For WIFI ALL blocks have been eliminated now - the hard and the soft ones. There is no hardware problem anymore that blocks possibilities to enable WIFI.Software settings are also OK now apparently. Bluetooth has no hard blocks anymore - no problems from the point of view of hardware. However, there are still one or a few problems in the realm of software - soft blocks. Now, I focus more on Bluetooth. bas@Camino:~$ bluetoothctl -v bluetoothctl: 5.72 bas@Camino:~$ Apparently, there is Bluetooth software present. [Bug 2065074] [NEW] Cannot enable WIFI & Bluethooth at fresh install of Kubuntu 24.04 LTS. «Hard blocks» or something else?
Public bug reported: Cannot enable WIFI & Bluethooth at fresh install of Kubuntu 24.04 LTS. «Hard blocks» or something else? Update from the bug reporter, Bas Roufs, Tuesday 7 May 2024, at about 12.30 CEST, Mook, near Nijmegen, The Netherlands: For: Expert users and developers of Kubuntu and/or other flavours of *Ubuntu, who know about WIFI and Bluetooth - especially in connection with the package rfkill. Cc.: KDE Experts. Previous versions of this report I have submitted here: https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=486368 KDE experts who have replied me there, emphasised that the issue needs to be resolved «downstream», in my case at the level of *Ubuntu. INTRODUCTION. @ Kubuntu and other *Ubuntu expert users. After checking the settings related to WIFI (and Bluetooth), I ended up filing a bug report at KDE: https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=486368 According to the feedback I got from KDE experts after doing so, the problem is real. However, those experts say it cannot be solved at the side of KDE. It needs to be solved «downstream», so at the side of Kubuntu and other Ubuntu flavours in our case. That's why, i finally file this bug report. THE PROBLEM IN BRIEF. So far, I do not manage to get WIFI enabled by the useful steps at a fresh install of Kubuntu 24.04 LTS, at this laptop: Lenovo Thinkpad X230 i5, along with 4 GB RAM, 250 GB SSD. A quick internet search clarifies me that I am not the only one who deals with this problem. I do work now with wired internet. However, this wired connection does not help me so far to get the WIFI enabled. The same applies for Bluetooth. Neither GUI approaches, nor command line solves anything so far. Ticking the box for enabling WIFI is not possible. The same applies for Bluetooth. Check the screenshots I send along with this bug report. It's about the graphical check down under - fruitlessly trying to tick the box to enable WIFI or the one to enable Bluetooth. At each screenshot, you can see a red arrow pointing at a WIFI or Bluetooth check box that cannot be ticked. Here, I go through the screeenshots that I send along this bug report: 1. Mouse at WIFI connection corner right down under. I indicate the place to look at by means of a red arrow. 1a. Focus at mouse pointer at WIFI connection corner right down under. 2. Enabling WIFI not possible. The red arrow and the mouse pointer point at the box that cannot be ticked with a view to enabling WIFI. 2a. Detail - Enabling WIFI not possible. A more detailed look at the corner where the red arrow points at the box that cannot be ticked. 3. Bluetooth disbabled. The red arrow and the mouse pointer both point at the area where bluetooth should need to be enabled. 3a. Impossible to get Bluetooth enabled. After the click indicated by image 3, I end up here The button aimed at enabling Bluetooth cannot be toggled. This button is being indicated by the mouse pointer and the red arrow. A few terminal checks so far do not solve the problem. However, more info comes to the surface. Take a look at the next paragraph. I have been trying such a solution. However, it did not work out. Moreover, at some point, I got too many complications. The most important one: the system was not able any more to read a 2 GB USB stick and 4 TB external hard drives = 3 items I use fore backup purposes. When stumbling on those complications, I made a few emergency backups via WETRANSFER, after which I did the following First, I reformatted and repartitioned the SSD with Gparted at System rescue at a Ventoy USB. Then, I made a fresh manually partitioned install of Kubuntu 24.04 LTS, the most recent LTS. About this, I'll tell more in other posts. > I would note that 22.04 to 23.10 > upgrades is non standard and not a path that really gets tested. > You might be right about this too. It was some emergency solution after me remarking that a direct upgrade from 22.04 to 24.04 is not yet possible. It became clear to me that this will be possible on 15 August 2024, after the issue of Kubuntu 24.04.1 LTS. I could not wait till that moment. Yours. Bas. -- Bas G. Roufs -- Bas G. Wanna add one thing. Thanks God, I DID manage to read and write my 128 GB Ventoy USB. I already copied the ISO to it from Kubuntu 24.04 LTS.I However, I cannot read the 2 and 4 GB USB devices I am using for backup purposes. [Bug 2063952] [NEW] Upgrade problem caused by many mistakes and broken packages.
Public bug reported: Upgrade problem caused by many mistakes and broken packages. Bug report 27 April 2024.in From Bas Roufs for Kubuntu developers. Mook, near Nijmegen, NL, 27 April 2024. Hello Everybody. Only a few weeks ago, I installed Kubuntu 22.04.1 LTS at my Lenovo Thinkpad X230 i5, 4GB RAM and 250 GB SSD at present. In a few weeks from now, I'll go to a computer repair shop that will add an extra SSD of 1 GB and 2 DDR 3, 1600 Mhz memory banks - with a view to getting 16 GB RAM. My idea was the following STEP 1. Prepare a system with the all the packages and languages modules I need for 10 languages - spell and grammar check, etc. STEP 2. Upgrade from Kubuntu 22.04.4 LTS to Kubuntu 24.04 LTS. However, it has become clear to me that a direct, automatic upgrade from the previous LTS to the current one is only possible after the issue of Kubuntu 24.04.1 LTS on 15 August 2024. This is way too late for me and in the middle of my holiday period. So, I have considered the option to make first an upgrade to Kubuntu 23.10, after which I would upgrade to 24.04. However, this attempt ended up in many, many complications as summarised here. STEP 3. Attempt to prepare a data only backup via Backintime or Luckybackup. However, Backintime seemingly caused complications as summarised below. STEP 3A. Attempt to prepare a system backup via Timeshift. However, this is too complicated for now - I'll start using Timeshift after getting the new 1 TB SSD. The old 250 GB SSD, I want to use for the Timeshift system-backup. My practice experience makes me clear that Timeshift is NOT AT ALL good for migration from one disk or one laptop to another. STEP 3B. Prepare migration from the smaller to the bigger SSD: via a compressed CloneZilla ISO image of the whole SSD at a Ventoy USB. Like this, I wanted to port all the packages, language modules, etc. to the bigger, new SSD. However, because of the complications summarised below, I need to make a fresh new install of, in this case, Kubuntu 24.04 LTS even before getting the hard ware upgrades: the extra SSD and RAM memory. With the language modules, packages, etc., I need to start again after fresh-installing «Noble Numbat». On the other hand, I stick to the plan to create a CloneZilla ISO: a compressed version of the contents my whole small 250 GB SDD. Like this, I want to get all the language settings, etc. to the new configuration after getting the new 1 TB SSD. STEP 3C. After getting the new SSD and RAM memory Installing the whole system and all data from the CloneZilla ISO. COMPLICATIONS EVER SINCE THURSDAY 25-04-2024. After installing Backintime, for the data only backup, the system does not 'see' anymore my 4 TB external hard disks, formatted in EXT4. Also a 2 TB USB stick formatted in FAT32 can not be used any more. Note - I am using USB 3.0 ports. So, I uninstalled again Backintime. However, this uninstallit ment action does not help. My system still does not "see" USB devices. That's why, I have copied some provisional data backups to Wetransfer. ASAP after fresh-installing Kubuntu 24.04 LTS, I'll retrieve my recent data from there. On Thursday, Kubuntu 24.04 LTS has been released. However, I do not manage to upgrade to it. That's why, I did several attempts to upgrade to Kubuntu 23.10, prior to upgrading to the newest LTS version. However, because of my ppa backports, I was not able to do an upgrade. So, I have removed the backports and also Flatpak - via the package managers at my system. However, those efforts did not help. Several attempts to upgrade to 23.10 ended up like this: «(...) bas@Camino:~$ sudo do-release-upgrade -m desktop Checking for a new Ubuntu release ERROR:root:getting the encoding failed Traceback (most recent call last): File "/usr/lib/python3/dist-packages/DistUpgrade/DistUpgradeView.py", line 39, in locale.setlocale(locale.LC_ALL, "") File "/usr/lib/python3.10/locale.py", line 620, in setlocale return _setlocale(category, locale) locale.Error: unsupported locale setting = Welcome to Ubuntu 23.10 'Mantic Minotaur' = The Ubuntu team is proud to announce Ubuntu 23.10 'Mantic Minotaur'. [Bug 1217959] Re: 'metadata' file not found when creating backup ("Could not restore ‘/home/user /.cache/deja-dup/metadata’: File not found in backup"
Working at a fresh install of Kubuntu 18.04.1 LTS in February 2019 - at a Lenovo X220, with a i5 processor and a 1 TB Samsung 860 EVO SSD, together with a 4 TB external HD, "WD My Passport". However, I seemingly manage to work around it by acting as follows: TERMINAL >> sudo apt-get purge deja-dup duplicity > sudo apt-get autoremove > sudo reboot now > after the reboot: TERMINAL >> apt-get install deja-dup duplicity > sudo deja-dup. On one hand, deja-dup has been making a first back-up ever since I hit the "sudo-deja" commando - now, a few hours ago. On the other hand, I got this terminal feedback in the first minutes after hitting the "sudo deja-dup" commanend. bas@Viaconsensus-iter:~$ sudo deja-dup ** (org.gnome.DejaDup:2519): CRITICAL **: 14:34:51.229: string_contains: assertion 'self != NULL' failed gpg: WARNING: unsafe ownership on homedir '/home/bas/.gnupg' ** (org.gnome.DejaDup:2519): WARNING **: 14:35:56.153: AssistantOperation.vala:904: Error calling StartServiceByName for org.freedesktop.secrets: Timeout was reached After "Timeout was reached", deja-dup seemingly started the backup process that is still ongoing. [Bug 1573755] Re: Compose and dead keys stopped working with XIM after upgrade to 16.04
Hello Everybody. At this dead keys problem, I stumble upon now - however, so far, just in LibreOffice. Ever since a few weeks, I work at a fresh install of Kubuntu 16.04 - along with KDE Plasma 5.6.5, installed via the Kubuntu ppa backports. Dead keys work in all applications except LibreOffice - version 5.1.4.2. I am using the keyboard "USA International". A character like ä is no problem in most of the applications. They same applies for e.g. the double quotation mark (") - the key that needs to be pressed first in order to get ä. However, in Libreoffice in my configuration as summarised here, signs like " and ä do not show up. I have similar problems with characters like à, é, ë, ñ. č, etc. Also signs like `, ~ or ' do not show up in Writer or any other Libreoffice application. It does not matter whether I work in Dutch, English, Italian, French, German or whatever - the problem remains the same - however, as I said, just in LibreOffice. The only workaround I have found so far is editing a text in another application (Kate, BlueFish or whatever) and copy-pasting it into LibreOffice. The workaround mentioned in comment 6 does not work here. I DO manage to invoke libreoffice from the command line - "libreoffice" does end up in the following sequence: bas@Viaconsensus-transit:~$ unset XMODIFIERS && libreoffice & [1] 5908 bas@Viaconsensus-transit:~$ W: Unknown node under /registry/extlang: deprecated W: Unknown node under /registry/grandfathered: comments W: Unknown node under /registry/grandfathered: comments X Error: BadMatch (invalid parameter attributes) 8 Major opcode: 42 (X_SetInputFocus) Resource id: 0x7c02342 However, the problem is not being fixed like this. Variants like "libreoffice4.2" or "libreoffice5" do not produce any result. On the other hand - the simple command line command "libreoffice", without anything else, is already enough to invoke that application. During my main working session of today, Tuesday 20 December 2016, I have done so by purpose. Hello John and Everybody I first noted this bug whist testing on Kubuntu pre-prelease on 12/10/2013. I am now checking the same on 14.04. The bug appears to be fixed. Will the bug fix you refer to just come together with Kubuntu 14.04? Or is it already possible to get it in 13.10 - probably together with the latest KDE version I can get via the regular backport ppa? At some moment later this week or next week, I will test your bug fix (attempt) at the 13.10 main system and/ or at some 14.04 test partition. [Bug 1256591] Re: The system is unable to read from a PTP camera.
Hereby I confirm from my side findings and workarounds related to this bug. I am using Kubuntu 13.10 along with KDE 4.11.5. At present, my camera is a Canon Powershot SX270HS. However, with two other compact camera's I have been using recently, I have have exactly the same experience: 'Fujifilm' and 'Traveller'. When attaching some camera, the device notifier does show it. However, Gwenview and Dolphin only will show the contents of it's SD card after invoking Dolphin via the terminal - 'sudo dolphin'. There are two other 'workarounds' to get the SD card contents shown. Digikam still works, also in normal mode with the camera attached. A second 'workaround' is simply taking out the SD card out of the camera and putting it into the SD card reader of the laptop. However it may be, I still prefer access to the photo files directly via a USB cable between the camera and the computer. That's why, I hope this bug will be fixed somehow. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1256591 Title: The system is unable to read from a PTP camera. [Bug 1014893] Re: NetworkManager applet is not responding to anything, but keeps prompting me for wireless password
My problem is quite similar to the one of Dima, the colleague who has filed this bug. That's why, I have confirmed it. In several preceding Kubuntu editions, KNetworkManager functioned quite well - both wired and wireless. Unlike Dima, I often need wireless connections at the machine I am working on right now: a HP Pavlion dm 1 netbook, 32 bits, Kubuntu 12.04 along with KDE 4.8.4. With this configuration, I do have difficulties getting reliable WIFI connections. Often, the system keeps configuring the interface or setting the network-address. Sometimes, the system keeps asking for a password already given in several times. Like in the case of Dima, this even happens when I am working with a wired connection. By means of a few workarounds I do get connected via WIFI - however, it sometimes costs a lot of time and effort. A few indications elsewhere at the internet possibly aim at a Linux Kernel problem. Someone who replied my question on this issue at the Kubuntu user forum, replied: I *think* I read something yesterday which said that the problem was in the kernel and that upgrading the kernel to version *-26 got the problem solved. So far, I did not find exactly the article he may be pointing at. However, a few recent comments on WICD point in the same direction: see https://launchpad.net/wicd, under the heading Recent posts. Those comments aim at similar password and connection problems when using WICD - a package with the same functionality as KNetworkmanager. Now, I am working with WIFI - with no interruptions so far. Before the reboot preceding this session, I did download and install a bunch of updates. However, I am not sure whether I already installed version *-26 of the kernel or anything else with a relevant bug fix. I will report my findings here after a few days. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1014893 Title: NetworkManager applet is not responding to anything, but keeps prompting me for wireless password To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/network-manager-applet/+bug/1014893/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 882535] Re: LibreOffice Writer regularly suddenly crashes in a working session.
apport information ** Tags added: apport-collected patch ** Description changed: WHAT EXACTLY HAPPENS When editing a document in LibreOffice Writer, this package or the whole system suddenly crashes sometimes. I cannot reconstruct exactly under which circumstances this happens - it happens always in the middle of an intense working session. After the crash, the system automatically restarts. I have been experiencing this problem ever since the latest versions of OpenOffice before the transit to LibreOffice. Recently, I found at least an effective workaround - as explained here below. WORKAROUND The workaround I have found, consist of preventive and curative measures. WORKAROUND - PREVENTIVE MEASURES When editing the document, I save it after each phrase via the command CONTROL-S. Each +/- 5 minutes, I go back to the folder where the document is: via Dolphin. First I refresh the document list via F5. Than I copy the document into a backup-document under another name. WORKAROUND - CURATIVE MEASURES After coming in the system again after such a crash, I go back to the document in which I have been working just before the crash: via Dolphin. After clicking at the document, the LibreOffice document recovery dialogue starts. I choose the option Open the read-only document. After opening this document, I save the same document under another name, after which I can continue the working session. By doing so, I manage to recover the document in 9 out of 10 cases. In about 1 out of 10 cases, I do NOT manage to recover the document. In such a case, I continue the working session in the lastest backup document. [Bug 882535] [NEW] LibreOffice Writer regularly suddenly crashes in a working session.
Public bug reported: WHAT EXACTLY HAPPENS When editing a document in LibreOffice Writer, this package or the whole system suddenly crashes sometimes. Re: [Bug 882535] Re: LibreOffice Writer regularly suddenly crashes in a working session.
2011/10/27 Björn Michaelsen bjoern.michael...@canonical.com System crash as in not Libreoffice crashes, but the whole desktop session or even the whole OS? It is a LibreOffice problem which affects the whole desktop session: as a result of the crash in Writer, the system stops and restarts. Needs more specific data, likely not an Libreoffice issue itself, but X11 driver or hardware issue. The problem is specificallly related to LibreOffice Writer. I do not experience it in any other application. If you want me to provide more specific info, I am happy to do so. But I need to know which kind of info I need to provide how. The problem occurs often when I try to save the latest changes in the document via control-s. Next week, I will provide you with some screenshots as well as with some files that might be helpful for debugging purposes. Re: [Bug 446956] Re: Upgrade from Ubuntu 9.04 to 9.10 fails with essential package 'ubuntu-minimal' can not be found anymore (mirror overloaded)
2009/11/25 Bert Vorenholt b...@vorenholt.nl In the last couple of days, I tried a couple of times to upgrade without any luck. After I disabled all third-party repositories, the upgrade is working while i'm writing this comment. About two weeks ago, I finally did manage to upgrade from, in my case, Kubuntu 9.04 to 9.10 - including all the third party software repositories.. However, I needed to bug-fix something essential a few days after the upgrade: a package that is essential for the interaction with the video card. Now, the system is running quite well. Only the sound is again a point of reflection and research. But I am not yet sure whether this is a hardware or software problem. Respectfully yours. Re: [Bug 317195] Re: Styles formatting menu vanished. SOLVED.
Hello Chris and everybody We are closing this bug report because it lacks the information we need to investigate the problem, as described in the previous comments. Recently I carried out an 'install from scratch' at a laptop, from O.O. Writer 2.4.1., together with the rest of the Kubuntu 8.10 distro. The first working sessions at that configuration revealed that O.O. Writer does function properly there, including the 'Styles and Formatting Menu'. So, I took into account that experience when fixing the problem at the desktop - the problem reported to you via the dossier Bug #317195. I DID manage to solve it as follows: simply removing and immediately reinstalling OpenOffice.org. First I removed the existing OpenOffice configuration via a terminal command suggested by you: rm -rf ~/.openoffice.org ~/.openoffice.org2 Then, I gave in this command: sudo apt-get install openoffice.org. After giving in my root password, the rest of the re-installation process went on smoothly. In the freshly installed O.O. Writer at the desktop, the 'styles and formatting' menu functions perfectly well. Probably, the problem has come into being after changing a few settings within OO Writer via TOOLSOPTIONSOpenOffice WriterFormatting aids. But I cannot reconstruct any more which mistake I made exactly. However it may be: it is perfectly OK for me to close down the dossier Bug #317195, because the problem has been solved now anyway. The only question remaining now is: is there a way to file the experience described above, in such a way that it can also be useful by others who might experience the same problem? Re: [Bug 317195] Re: Styles formatting menu vanished
Do you still have this problem with the new version of OOo in the ppa at https://launchpad.net/~openoffice-pkgs/+archive ? A few days ago I installed exactly the same new version of O.0. in exactly the same Kubuntu 8.10, but at another computer, a laptop. There, I did find again the complete styles and formatting menu. So, the question remains what happened with OO writer the desktop PC, and especially, how to fix the problem with the vanished styles and formatting menu there. Could it be a viable option to un-install and then re-install OO Writer? If so, how? Thx. for replying, Bas Roufs. -- === Viaconsensus Bas G. Hello Chris If it works fine on one system but not another with the same version of OOo then perhaps moving/removing the ~/.openoffice.org2 and ~/.openoffice.org directories would help resolve the problem. [Bug 317195] Re: Styles formatting menu vanished
The problem still not has been satisfactorily resolved!! Several very practical functions I used to access via 'Styles and formatting' seem to have vanished. By example the connection I could make between the headings and the numbering system - another tab in the 'Styles and formatting menu in previous versions of Writer. By means of 'Numbering 1' in combination with the headings I could work with paragraph numbers - heading 1 worked with one level (Paragraph 1), heading 2 worked with two levels (Subparagraph 1.1), heading 3 with three levels (1.1.1.), etc. In the same document I could even combine e.g. numbering 1 for paragraph numbers with numbering 2 for numbers for the provisions in some legal document, like this: Provision 1 - Basics 1.1. Text, text, text 1.2. Text, text, text. Provision 2 - Details 2.1. Text, text, text. 2.2. Text, text, text. If I would insert a new provision in between 1 and 2, Provision 2 would automatically become 3, 2.1. would become 3.1. But ever since OpenOffice has been upgraded to it's latest version, I simply do not manage any more to access such functions. Re: [Bug 148487] Re: i can not update my thunderbird and can not download adds on
Dear Antonio Thanks for your reply; after writing my message in the bug report menu, useful feedback on the same subject matter came in to me via the Kubuntu and Ubuntu user groups. Below I deal with a few finalising issues. Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. With pleasure! Just one question in this context. Is there any website via which I can report feed back and suggestions also if I do not have an immediate 'bug'? I work with the 'Kubuntu' variant of Gutsy. If I understand, you are trying to update thunderbird with the built-in thunderbird updater? Exactly, this is what I tried until it became clear to me what you say me too: that the updating is being organised via the general update process of Ubuntu/ Kubuntu instead of that of Thunderbird. This is deactivated in Ubuntu, the updates come trough Update Manager. I already found one or two times this 'Update Manager', however I cannot find it back. Can you tell me where I can find this 'Update Manager' in the Kubuntu Menu? How can I work with it? The current version of Thunderbird in Gutsy's repositories is 2.0.0.8. The 2.0.0.9 version is not yet available, but will provably be soon as an update. Thanks If you could tell me how I could use the 'Update manager' to install 2.0.08., I would be very grateful. Currently, I have still 2.0.0.6. on the PC - however, later on I did manage to install the dictionaries that were allegedly 'incompatible' with it. I also managed to install other adds-on. Thanks for your efforts. Have a good weekend! Respectfully Yours, Bas. -- * Viaconsensus Bas G. Roufs M.A. Van 't Hoffstraat 1 NL-3514 VT Utrecht E.: [EMAIL PROTECTED] M.: +31.6.446.835.10. The same problem I have with Kubuntu 7.10 in combination with Thunderbird. The Thunderbird version that came with the Kubuntu 7.10 distribution is 2.0.06. Now, the version 2.0.09. is relevant. So, several dictionary spell-check ad-ons cannot be installed any more because they are related to newer versions of Thunderbird.
