[Bug 1186512] Re: [USB-Audio - Fast Track Ultra, playback] Playback problem
hello, please excuse the delay. first of all i must report, that the abovementioned reply from grant diffey: It sounds to me like you haven't set up the internal mixer of the ultra correctly this will sound bad. was actually right. after lots of guesswork i dug into alsamixer's effect faders and they were wrongly set because of, probably, both settings made under windows as well as certain inconsistency in card's setup between systems (i.e. the wrong linux setting wouldn't manifest itself under windows at the same time). so i'm marking it as invalid. however, i believe this is a symptom of a serious problem. if the system is rendered unusable (at least to me) for over a year and there's no way to get clear solution (the above answer was too enigmatic to me), there seems to be a problem with the whole ecosystem. please comment on how similar cases can be solved effectively. now to answer above questions (i actually indirectly answered it before): the gnome/unity sound control lets me change balance, fade and bass, however balance and fade are illogically entangled (moving one may move the other). am i expected to do any tests regarding your log question? thank you for the support. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1186512 Title: [USB-Audio - Fast Track Ultra, playback] Playback problem To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/alsa-driver/+bug/1186512/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

hi. thanks for the reminder. i must say i haven't seen it for quite a time and forgot about it, but my use of ubuntu was minimal (still due to fundamental problems with the system). i will try to check if the problem persists over next few weeks, if possible. hello. there is no progress. i have received an answer from grant diffey: It sounds to me like you haven't set up the internal mixer of the ultra correctly this will sound bad. and i answered: not sure what do you mean. how do i set it up under ubuntu? and, as stated, the change apparently came with upgrade to 12.10 from 12.04, not with any changes i made. the issue raised by grant don't seem to be the case. there was no follow-up. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1186512 Title: [USB-Audio - Fast Track Ultra, playback] Playback problem To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/alsa-driver/+bug/1186512/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

here it comes. sorry for delay. the device _is_ running, tested for playback, with aforementioned problems. regarding the channel mapping i did with alsamixer without problems under 12.04. please refer to the description - i believe it's not a mapping issue, as explained, but virtual spatialization effect added. do i understand right that i should file a bug here http://www.freedesktop.org/wiki/Software/PulseAudio/Distributions/Ubuntu/Bugs/? actually they direct to filing it in launchpad. thanks. [Bug 1186512] [NEW] [USB-Audio - Fast Track Ultra, playback] Playback problem
Public bug reported: there's an artificial spatilization when using usb multichannel audio interface. in 12.10, in the sound settings window it did manifest itself as analog surround 7.1 profile, which is inadequate (i have 2.0 setup) and it applies some bombastic fx (reverberation?) and virtual channels to the stereo. in 13.04 i don't see the analog surround 7.1 label anymore. it also has no input. there's only this fake surround profile available. seemingly it tries to put all channels (with reverbs) into two physical channels if it detects it's a multichannel device. and it happened specifically since 12.10, cause with 12.04 i had no problem. 12.04 had no analog surround profile forced on it. there are some reverbed virtual channels (side l, side r and center) added to outputs 1 and 2 (why?), and controls for balance and distance are entangled (moving one moves the another). also i have NO analog surround 7.1 setup. there are no other options. [Bug 889815] Re: hidden 100% cpu usage
okay. swap wasn't working. it is now and i will test the system for some time. also task manager's preferences had 'show all processes' unchecked, so hope some mysterious cpu use will now be indicated. strange how nobody directed me neither to swap (i myself made it bigger sometime ago suspecting memory problems) nor to 'show all processes' despite numerous requests on #ubuntu. 'fresh install' was the usual reply. however, the real 'bug' seems to be why the problem bothers me for a few years already, even though ubuntu was freshly installed at 11.04, as far as i remember, and generally i did up to 10 fresh installs since 2008. there's one trace - 'sudo fdisk -l' states 'partition table entries are in different order than on disk'. but still why ubuntu would install and work for so long without swap (swap partition WAS being prepared during installs) and give no indication of it is beyond me. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/889815 Title: hidden 100% cpu usage To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/889815/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 889815] [NEW] hidden 100% cpu usage
Public bug reported: i encounter this problem over many releases with varying frequency. i file it finally after recent occurrence, but i believe it is *not* caused by pulseaudio in general, as seems to be the case this time. the issue started with pulseaudio --start --log-target=syslog occupying 82% of the cpu and nearly frozen firefox, which was repaired by killing the firefox task. however, afterwards the 100% cpu use remained for at least a few minutes. attached is a screen grab, however due to actual screen grab activity there was a rise from ca. 12% *indicated* to ca. 56% *indicated*. after *years* of on/off struggle with the problem it would be good to finally have it solved. thanks. [Bug 851051] [NEW] system hangs or clogs due to possible out of memory killer malfunction
Public bug reported: observed many times and not oneiric-specific, but ubuntu-specific since some time ago. typical occurence: system unresponsive after being left running (idle) overnight. also: system getting more and more slow and choppy throughout use. user drussell on #ubuntu-bugs says: baskak: ahh that's bad // baskak: the out of memory killer is firing, and killing stuff off to try and save the system // baskak: the most I can suggest for now is raising a bug explaining what's going on, and attaching that log file the log file will be attached below. regarding testing against latest upstream mainline kernel, it seems bit to complicated to me... [Bug 368570] Re: OOo 3 crashes during install of mailmerger.py in jaunty studio
i have two machines affected by this problem. currently i managed to run dpkg again thanks to instructions on the bug discussion. the kernel in question is the same, 2.6.28-3-rt. i am now updating 9.04 to latest packages and will attempt to upgrade to 9.10. please let me know what informations can i provide to help solve the problem. the other machine is not available to me due to hardware failure, however the symptoms were the same, though (as far as i remember) not caused by openoffice (as noted above by one of debaters). i have some notes taken during encountering the bug on this other machine, if it can be helpful. both cases were extremely troubling, as i had no access to two machines (on their linux partitions) for a few months. no help was available on irc. ** Changed in: linux-rt (Ubuntu) Status: Invalid = New -- OOo 3 crashes during install of mailmerger.py in jaunty studio https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/368570 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
