[Bug 360629] [NEW] Removal of /etc/init.d/loopback breaks some environments (e.g. OpenVZ)

2009-04-13 Thread Bastian Grupe
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: ifupdown

In some environments, e.g. OpenVZ on a Hardy host, /etc/init.d/loopback
is used to populate /var/run/network. Since Jaunty this script has been
removed in favor of udev rules. udev does not run when using OpenVZ, so
jaunty VEs are rendered unusable without it. Manually creating said
script fixes it.

Is it possible to bring that script back in case it does not hurt the
current udev setup?

I can confirm this bug with a FSC Amilo 7400 laptop (also having Intel

Is there any fix in sight? Information needed?

[Bug 238908] [NEW] [Hardy] Shutdown through ssh or console impossible when X is running

2008-06-10 Thread Bastian Grupe
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg

When X is running, the recovery stuff integrated in the xserver seems to
prevent the PC to be shut down via console or ssh.

Use case:

- You start your multimedia pc
- You ssh to it while watching a movie
- Afterwards you decide to shut it down via ssh running sudo shutdown now

Expected result:

- The PC shuts down

Actual result:

- SSHd is terminated
- PC drops to X recovery shell since it thinks X crashed

I could reproduce this issue with both completely free drivers (intel)
and restriced drivers (nvidia based system) so I don't expect it to be a
driver problem.

I am running hardy with uptodate -proposed updates.

[Bug 229000] [NEW] random file corruptions in ntfs-3g 1.2506

intentional? OpenVZ is still rendered useless for me in hardy without

[Bug 120082] dpkg-reconfigure vmware-server is too aggressive (kills guest OSs)

2007-06-12 Thread Bastian Grupe
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: app-install-data-commercial

After hibernating Ubuntu and waking it up on another network the vmnetX
devices were gone and I recovered them by invoking dpkg-reconfigure
vmware-server (because sudo /etc/init.d/networking restart didn't bring
them up). While I was issuing the dpkg command I had a VM guest open,
which was killed by dpkg. I think I should be asked whether or not I
want to shut down the guest before hard-killing it (or the state should
be saved automatically). Otherwise dataloss is possible.

[Bug 54396] Re: Eclipse installation has broken dependencies, wants mozilla-browser

2006-09-25 Thread Bastian Grupe
I recently tried setting up eclipse from scratch in edgy (apt-get
purging et al) but still no success.

I cannot even switch the java version to use for eclipse, it always
loads gcj (which seems the one guilty of eclipse not working), update-
alternatives and editing /etc/jvm both couldn't convince eclipse to use
sun java.

Building eclipse from source failed, too, since the build-deps cannot be
satisfied (bails at a wrong libjsch-java version).

I'd really appreciate feedback in order to get this beast working.
