[Bug 1017595] Re: Today's date in the calendar is unclear

2014-01-30 Thread Benjamin Geer
Also, if you browse to a different date (e.g. several months in the
future), there is no quick way to get back to today's date. Clicking on
today's date in the drop-down menu should bring the calendar back to
today's date.

[Bug 346128] [NEW] "Error while burning: the file is not stored locally"

2009-03-20 Thread Benjamin Geer
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: brasero

In Ubuntu 8.10, my "CD/DVD Creator folder" has two "Write to Disc"
buttons, as in the attached screenshot. (I assume this is because of
bug 317756.) The top "Write to Disc" button, which I assume runs
brasero, always fails to burn a disc; a dialog always displays the error
message "Error while burning: the file is not stored locally". The
bottom "Write to Disc" button, which I assume runs nautilus-cd-burner,
works fine.

[Bug 191292] Re: openoffice.org Accented displayed incorrectly

2008-06-19 Thread Benjamin Geer
This often happens to me, too. Like joehill, I often write documents
that include transliterated Arabic (and/or Arabic script). To answer
Chris's question, the problem occurs for me even when only one document
is open.

When the problem occurs, if I shut down OpenOffice (including the
quickstarter) then restart it by double-clicking on the same document
again, generally the problem remains. But if I restart OpenOffice using
the item in the Applications menu, then reopen the document using
File->Open from within OpenOffice, the problem goes away. (I think, but
I'm not absolutely sure, that this always works.)

I've also noticed that when the problem occurs, it affects different
characters in different fonts; thus changing the font of an incorrectly
displayed character (e.g. from DejaVu Serif to Georgia or vice versa)
can cause it to be displayed correctly.

I've just experienced this bug after upgrading from Gutsy to Hardy, but

checked the contents of the .trash_entry_cache file, and saw that files
such as /dev/shm, /var/run and /lib/modules/2.6.24-16-generic/volatile/

[Bug 43379] Re: nm-applet vanished, disappears from tray

2007-11-11 Thread Benjamin Geer
I'm having a similar problem. When I removed the Tomboy Notes applet
from the panel, several other applets disappeared along with it: the
network manager applet, the OpenOffice quicklaunch applet, and the Gmail
Notifier applet. Using 'ps', I verified that all the applet processes
were still running (including nm-applet and NetworkManager). My
wireless network connection was still working, too. I rebooted, and the
applets didn't reappear, but the computer nevertheless connected to my
wireless network.

I then used Synaptic Package Manager to reinstall the network-manager
and network-manager-gnome packages, thinking that this might get the
applets to reappear, and apparently as a result, the wireless network
connection was dropped. I rebooted the machine, but the applets have
not reappeared, and the wireless network connection hasn't come back up
again. All the applet processes are still running, though; they are
just not being displayed. Unfortunately, this means I can't get my
network connection working again, since as far as I can tell, the only
way to do so is via the Network Manager applet which isn't displayed.
