[Bug 505481] [NEW] Closed this reprt - Fixed

2010-01-10 Thread Bill Shepherd
Public bug reported:

Brother solution center seem to have made it very difficult to
understand by a newbie, what Commands and scripts I need to use to
install LPR and CUPSWRAPPER

To complicate matters I cannot load the real driver MFC215C I have to
use MFC210C does this mean that the Files or the data in the files
need to be changed to make the real printer MFC215C work.

I did manage to get this printer working back 8.10. Brother appear
to have made it more difficult on their Website, as they do not explain
what the commands are doing.

Up to now I have managed to load on my spare PC about 6 different OS's
but with out the Brother printer, Did have an old HP which worked every
time.

Without a printer the Linux system is no good. Every thing else works straight
out of the box. In Linux Format they could do with a good article on printing,
and all the pitfalls, and work rounds.
I am still a Linux fan
Running a Novatech PC AMD Phenom II Quad Core 965 3.4Ghzs - Linux Ubuntu 9.10
downloaded from LXFDVD127 plus upgardes from the internet.

[Bug 505481] Re: Closed this reprt - Fixed

2010-01-10 Thread Bill Shepherd
Restarted with a fresh install of Ubuntu 9.10 from LXF 127
Using Brother solution center. Download loaded the two files for MFC210C
Printer is a MFC215C - Have to used 210 Drivers.
With other commands from a Ubuntu How to install MFC210C document
Managed to get Brother printer to work.
What is not clear, should this have worked with Karmic Koala?
Don't ask for any more detail, unable to supply.
Printer now working.

One fact I did find out Brother printers MFC465CN and MFC215C will not
work in Ubuntu 9.10 AMD 64 bit. They only work in 32bit.

This can now be closed.

[Bug 219284] [NEW] adept manager system upgrade to 2.6.22-14 - opens two adept seesions and crashes

2008-04-18 Thread Bill Shepherd
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: update-manager

I have only been working on this system (Ubuntu) for a week, Having problems
understanding the new system. I am running Kubuntu.
The CD/DVD's were bought from the Linux store last week versions all 7.10 base
system Ubuntu
All I can do is describe what the system was doing.
Menu - system- Adept manager, This is then looking at what I think are source
files, when a second adept manager starts and the first one crashes due to
another starting.

Sorry this is a steep learning curve for a 69 year old, but I will stick
at it. Have been in the computer industry since 1962 Rca 1500 single
prog M/c.

Not with the full SP on filling in all the forms yet.
