[Bug 1947440] [NEW] Stuttering video playback

2021-10-16 Thread BitBurners.com
Public bug reported:

This issue has been around for a long time, at least since version 20.10
and IIRC also with 20.04 HWE updates.

I bought this Lenovo M73 Tiny for HTPC purposes, but due to these video
playback issues I am now forced to run it with Windows. At first it used
to work well, but has regressed with later Ubuntu or Linux releases.

1. Display refresh rate at 50 or 60 Hz
2. Play 50 or 60 fps video content with a browser: YouTube or sports broadcasts
from VOD services

--> Video playback stutters constantly, making it unpleasant to watch,
especially for sports.

100% repro on recent Ubuntu releases and also on Ubuntu-based PopOS.

[Bug 1915014] Re: [amdgpu] [wayland] Screen goes occasionally black after taking a screenshot

2021-02-15 Thread BitBurners.com
I downgraded to 20.04 kernel (5.4.x) and I am still getting the black
flashes.

BTW, the journal seems to expose the username, so you should warn about
that before requesting it.

The original bug report was slightly inaccurate. "Black flashes" may
occur also without taking a screenshot, usually when closing an
application.

[Bug 1915014] [NEW] Screen goes occasionally black after taking a screenshot

2021-02-08 Thread BitBurners.com
Public bug reported:

Weird issue which has come to my system via updates - possibly the Linux
kernel 5.8?

Steps to repro:

- Take a screenshot (prt scr)
- Continue using the computer

After I have taken a screenshot, my display gets quick black flashes
when using other applications. Manipulating the screenshot with Pinta,
opening web browser, etc.. Screen goes black for a second and then
resumes normal operation.

This does not happen before taking the screenshot, so it obviously
triggers something. The system works and is usable, but the black
flashes are pretty odd and distracting.

[Bug 1914877] Re: Stuttering video playback

2021-02-07 Thread BitBurners.com
Thanks @vanvugt,

I had to wipe the setup and replace with Windows to quickly work around
from the issue. However:

- Wayland vs. X11 makes no difference. I usually prefer Wayland, but tried X
too. Also, KDE Neon uses X as default.
- I investigated a bit further, and indeed the time-line of the issue matches
quite accurately with the kernel 5.8 upgrade. Also, the KDE Neon installation
media comes with 5.8 currently.

Since I can now only debug with live media, I guess I need to try 20.04
vs 20.04.2, unless someone else is able to repro this.

[Bug 1914877] [NEW] Stuttering video playback

2021-02-06 Thread BitBurners.com
Public bug reported:

Something has regressed recently to cause stuttering video playback.
especially at the Cmore.fi. This makes sports broadcasts very
uncomfortable to look at. The issue appeared about 1-2 weeks ago, so it
is very recent.

It used to work fine on this HW for months, but not anymore.

It does not depend on the browser, as the issue is the same on Firefox or
Chrome.
It does not depend on the DE, as KDE Neon suffers from the same issue.

I had to install Windows 10, which of course is a tragedy. Posting this
report from a 20.04.2 live USB session and the issue is reproduced with
this as well.

[Bug 1830192] [NEW] Constant wifi interruptions - Network activation failed

2019-05-23 Thread BitBurners.com
Public bug reported:

On my HP Elitebook G3 the wifi has not worked correctly in current or
previous Ubuntu versions (18.04, 18.10).

The symptoms are that the WiFi keeps breaking the connection with no
apparent reason, making the device hard to use online. There are a ton
of reports regarding iwlwifi problems with the Intel 8260 chip, but
nothing conclusive.

Interesting detail is that Manjaro Linux 18.0.4 seems like it would be
more stable the Ubuntu.

The battery charge/discharge times are way off using Ubuntu 17.10. My
battery is old, but it should still be good for about 60 minutes of
usage. However using Ubuntu 17.10 the charge and discharge times are
erratic and I basically get minutes of battery life.

I have experienced similar with Fedora 25, but works fine on most other
distribution, such as Ubuntu 16.04 LTS.

[Bug 1550704] Re: Type Cover (3) touchpad not working on Surface Pro 3

2017-02-27 Thread BitBurners.com
> Fedora has out-of-the-box support as well, since v24.

It does not have Touchpad multi touch patch included. F25 was quite
unstable on my SP3, for whatever reason.

> How is that helpful??

Since the support on Ubuntu is not going anywhere. This is a year old
bug, and unofficial patched kernels have been around for ages. Since we
are here at stand still, but someone may actually want to use the
device, it is worth pointing out that there are alternatives.

Since Ubuntu/Canonical is so friendly with Microsoft, I wonder why there
is no interest in improving support for partners hardware.

FYI, the Manjaro 17.02 is supporting the Surface Pro 2 out of the box.
Type Cover, touchpad with 2-finger scrolling. Everything works straight
off the live media.

2016-02-10 Thread BitBurners.com
Still reproducable on latest 16.04/Xenial daily build. I can type, but
the touchpad is not working for mouse features.

Since the problem is well known and the fix rather simple (vendor ID),
this should be fixed to 16.04.

[Bug 970615] [NEW] Window indicators of Unity dock bar are too small

2012-04-01 Thread BitBurners.com
Public bug reported:

I am guessing that this might be just bad design than a bug, but anyway.

At least on my resolution the window indicators of the Unitys left hand
dock way too small to provide reasonable usability. I am talking about
the microscopic grey dots and arrows on the right and left side of the
application, which has windows open.

On my display resolution these arrows and dots are about 1x1mm in size, making
them difficult to see in case:
- You have less than perfect eyesight (mine is perfect though)
- I have bigger dust and dirt particles on my screen - many work PCs that are
used hard and travel a lot tend to have that
- In bright light conditions
- They are so small that they are neglected by new Unity users, who are not
aware what to look for

Switching from applications and windows to each other is one of the
basic features of desktop UI. This functionality should have obvious
visility and accessibility. The size of the indicators on this my
resolution is way too small. Also the color scheme (grey on violet)
lacks contrast to make it even worse.

2012-01-21 Thread BitBurners.com
Is anyone aware of a workaround? I would be somewhat happy if the
touchpad, detected as PS/2 mouse, could be disabled during typing and a
few millisecs after. This really is killing the usability on this PC.,
but I would not like to go back to Windows.

[Bug 877666] Re: Dell XT2 touchpad not recognized

2012-01-21 Thread BitBurners.com
I don't know why I have not discovered this earlier, even with intense
googling. Turns out that 'mouseemu' is a decent workaround.

1) Install package 'mouseemu'
2) Run the command on terminal: mouseemu -typing-block 500

The 500 sets the delay to 500ms - adjust at will. Make the command run
on system boot to make the change permanent. Not perfect, but improves
things quite a bit.

[Bug 877666] Re: Dell XT2 touchpad not recognized

2011-12-10 Thread BitBurners.com
Heres more Dmesg data. Touchpad was not touched, so only joystick movent
and also some keyboard presses to get back to Terminal. Data attached.

Sorry, by side scrolling, I meant vertical scrolling which is
initiated by moving the finger up/down at the right edge of the
touchpad.

I don't have a copy of Windows I could try with this laptop, and I have
never used Windows on this laptop so hard to say how it works there.
Basically it seems to work just fine with your .deb - it registers
clicks and movement correctly, and now with that scrolling. The key
addition of course would be to be able to disable, or enabling the
disable when typing -feature.

[Bug 877666] Re: Dell XT2 touchpad not recognized

2011-12-08 Thread BitBurners.com
Hi Seth,

After installing your .deb and modprobing the mouse, following was
observed:

- Touchpad remained functional
- Touchpad support improved, as side-scrolling now worked
- Joystick however went totally haywire - touching the stick caused erratic
mouse behaviour all over the screen.

Dmesgs are attached.

[Bug 472801] Re: T41 overwhelmed by composition - hard hang

2009-11-20 Thread BitBurners.com
Hey, thanks for pointing me to the right direction.

I can confirm you findings - I just didn't figure out that they are display
related:
- Boot LiveCD, start Firefox -- Crash
- Boot LiveCd, click install -- crash
- Install from boot menu, 1st system boot, update manager opens -- crash

Thinkpad T41 (2373-NG9)

Ubuntus configuration with older Radeon chips has always been borked.
Previously you needed to modify xorg.conf to get 3D acceleration, then
in Jaunty you needed to edit it as incorrect configuration caused
terrible performance, and now you have to disable it or the whole thing
explodes.

[Bug 363238] Re: [Mobility] (r100-rv200) very poor Xorg performance - XAA solves this

2009-05-04 Thread BitBurners.com
Bug confirmed on IBM Thinkpad T41 / ATI RV250. Fixed by changing to XAA
as suggested by Wenzhuo Zhang's 2009-04-19 xorg.conf change.

2009-04-23 Thread BitBurners.com
I just tested the final version Gnome LiveCD and the bug is still there.
My old Thinkpad T41 with ipw2100 cannot connect to my WPA2 protected
home wlan, while Ibex has been working flawlessly.

[Bug 339891] Re: [Jaunty] wireless rt2860 not connecting to WPA

2009-04-22 Thread BitBurners.com
This bug report based on the topic is limited to RT chipsets. However, I
have a Thinkpad T41 with ipw2100 chipset that is working perfectly with
8.10, but if I try with 9.04RC I fail to connect my WPA secured access
point. The WLAN itself does work, I can succesfully connect to open APs.
