I have had exactly the same problem when using Kubuntu Karmic. Now after upgrading to Lucid, using the standard Ubuntu repository, the problem remains. 1: phy1: Wireless LAN Soft blocked: no Hard blocked: yes Does Hard blocked indicate a Fn-keyboard setting? I had exactly your experience with no wifi after upgrade. As a coincidence, when adding a Bluetooth mouse, I happened to realise that my laptop also has an Fn-command to toggle wifi on/off. Never used before!, but it now worked! Wifi was immediately activated.
