[Bug 903602] Re: CIFS automount with "nounix" option create empty directories

2021-12-21 Thread Björn Jacke
funny, just saw, that the bug is quite exactly 10years old, which is why
it looked like from this month. The problem still looks very similar but
it isn't a regression from 5.4.0.89 to 5.4.0.91 at all. The kernel seems
to get confused though if you mount a share once with and later withouth
unix extensions. In such a situation unmounting *all* cifs shares helped
to solve it. But it still looks buggy that area.

[Bug 903602] Re: CIFS automount with "nounix" option create empty directories

2021-12-21 Thread Björn Jacke
I've CCd kernel package maintainer Stefan Bader also.

I've seen this problem on a customer machine also with current linux-
image hwe-18.04 (5.4.0.91) kernels. Directories with nounix mount option
are empty.

Previous 5.4.0.89 seems to have issues *with* unix extensions here
though, that one wan not able to mount at all if the unix mount option
is added.

The current bug with "successful" but empty cifs mounts is worse though.

[Bug 836250] Re: 8086:4238 Intel Centrino Ultimate-N 6300 poor networking, packet loss and very slow Lenovo X201 and T500 laptops

2020-11-12 Thread Björn Jacke
even with current 5.4 kernels from 20.04 (9 years after this bug was
reported), it's neccessary to set

options iwlwifi 11n_disable=2

if you have a Intel Centrino Ultimate-N 6300 card. Otherwise there is
packet loss that prevents usable throughput rates.

If this is not getting fixed upstream in the kernel, then Ubuntu should
ship a configuration for systems with those chipsets, that mitigates the
problem. Finding the cause of this problem is only possible for people
with expert knowledge. Can you please add a mitigation for this issue in
Ubuntu by default?

[Bug 1874231] [NEW] mumble freezes all audio applications

2020-04-22 Thread Björn Jacke via ubuntu-bugs
Public bug reported:

after upgrading from 18.04 to 20.04 starting mumble freezes all audio
applications.

The audio related log at startup:

JACK server starting in realtime mode with priority 10
self-connect-mode is "Don't restrict self connect requests"

ALSA: final selected sample format for capture: 32bit integer little-endian
ALSA: use 2 periods for capture
ALSA: final selected sample format for playback: 32bit integer little-endian
ALSA: use 2 periods for playback

- running applications using sound freeze until mumble is stopped again

- starting for example a new mpv player (while a blocking mumble client
is active) says "[ao/pulse] The stream is suspended. Bailing out."

The problem does not change if I disable all mumble plugins, it does
also not change if I change audio input/output system to
alsa/jack/pluseaudio or oss.

[Bug 1551175] [NEW] "net join" to Active Directory may fail

2016-02-29 Thread Björn Jacke
Public bug reported:

in some AD environment the user used to join a machine may only have
right to create or delete objects but not modify. The net join code
though recently wants to set the supported encryption typed after
joining the account, which may fail then. The better approach is to
create the machine account with all the intended attributes with one
shot.

The required patch for this has been added to the Samba master and
stable 4.4 and 4.3 branches today, see

https://bugzilla.samba.org/show_bug.cgi?id=11755

https://attachments.samba.org/attachment.cgi?id=11872

As this affects many AD enterprise environments with Ubuntu clients, it
would be good if this patch would be added to the Ubuntu Samba package
before 16.04 becomes final.

[Bug 386928] Re: "Rennrad" missing in /usr/share/dict/ngerman

2009-10-14 Thread Björn Jacke
updating to the latest igerman98 release would fix this. The
Debian/Ubuntu igerman98 package is quite old. German's user experience
in OOo and other applications with spell checker would be much improved
when the package would be updated.

[Bug 276531] Re: Application lock if default printer can't be reached

2009-07-14 Thread Björn Jacke
sigh ... too bad when important projects are a one-man-show.

CUPS lacks a feature that openldap for example implments with
LDAP_OPT_NETWORK_TIMEOUT.

You can easily reproduce the problem in CUPS by setting

ServerName some-unused-ip-address-in-your-local-subnet

in /etc/cups/client.conf.

Samba had the same problem and implemented a workaround for the lack of
a connect timeout in cups:
