[Bug 1619960] Re: XApps don't see sd card

2016-12-13 Thread Blade
Hi Larry, I tried your solution, but in my case didn't work.

I have a SD formated in ext4 (using mkfs.ext4 command from inside the
tablet), and mounted from command line in the table, because the mount
app doesn't work with this file system (https://bugs.launchpad.net
/canonical-devices-system-image/+bug/1584353)

I've mounted on /media/sd

I made a symbolic link in /home/phablet/Documents to /media/sd, and I
can see both paths (/media/sd and /home/phablet/Documents/sd) from file
explorer tool or media player, but... the office tools don't see the
path

Thanks for the explanation, Larry.

A little more information:
I've tried a workaround based on soft link in any place inside /home pointing
to the external SD, but doesn't work either.

I'm not sure anything has to be mounted. The problem is: The external
media is already mounted by the operating system, and it is being seen
by apps as music player and images, but the XApps don't see the already
mounted device.

[Bug 124743] Re: Sony Sixaxis Controller does not work over bluetooth

2014-05-01 Thread Blade
Following on from the work of previous posters, I've built a version
with the SIXAXIS pairing patch for Trusty and uploaded it to a ppa at
https://launchpad.net/~nadia-xy/+archive/ppa. Hopefully if/when Ubuntu
moves to Bluez 5 this won't be an issue anymore as Bluez 5 appears to
support this in recent versions without patching.

[Bug 996750] [NEW] Compiz Desktop Wall plugin, super + arrow key mapped to 'move to next workspace', preview remains and super key seen as depressed by some applications.

2012-05-08 Thread blade
Public bug reported:

I normally map the Super(windows) + arrow keys to move between
workspaces, instead of the default Ctrl + Alt + arrow keys.

I disabled the overlay shortcut that appears when super key is pressed
for a while.

When I then switch workspaces using Super and arrow keys, the switching
occurs and moves to next window, but the viewport switcher previews
remain in the middle of the screen. Looks like the key-release event
also does not get registered, as when this happens, remmina and Oracle
VirtualBox thinks the Super Key is still pressed.

Pressing Esc gets rid of the viewport switcher previews, but applications still
thinks Super key is pressed.
Pressing and releasing the Super Key again then registers a key release so that
applications (Remmina, virtualbox) then works fine again.

This worked fine in 11.10 64bit

Current system:
Ubuntu 12.04 64bit
Fresh Install

Linux hostname 3.2.0-24-generic #38-Ubuntu SMP Tue May 1 16:18:50 UTC

[Bug 511044] [NEW] Nvidia driver fails after update xserver-common,

2010-01-21 Thread blade
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-common

Hey guys,

First of all thanks for all the hard work!

I'm running Karmic Kuala, 9.10, 32bit

I received an update yesterday:
Preparing to replace xserver-common 2:1.6.4-2ubuntu4 (using
.../xserver-common_2%3a1.6.4-2ubuntu4.1_all.deb) ...

Unpacking replacement xserver-common ...

Preparing to replace xserver-xorg-core 2:1.6.4-2ubuntu4 (using
.../xserver-xorg-core_2%3a1.6.4-2ubuntu4.1_i386.deb) ...

Unpacking replacement xserver-xorg-core ...

After a reboot, my Nvidia driver stopped working correctly. All desktop
effects was disabled. The nvidia Logo still comes up just before the
login screen, so it's still using the Nvidia driver. I then tried to
reinstall the driver, NVIDIA-Linux-x86-190.42-pkg1.run, which complained
about the following:

- Validating previous installation:
ERROR: File '/usr/lib/xorg/modules/extensions/libglx.so' is not a symbolic
   link.

so it seems, error with GLX

From Xorg.0.log:
(EE) Jan 22 07:14:40 NVIDIA(0): Failed to initialize the GLX module; please
check in your X
(EE) Jan 22 07:14:40 NVIDIA(0): log file that the GLX module has been
loaded in your X

(EE) Jan 22 07:14:40 NVIDIA(0): you continue to encounter problems, Please
try
(EE) Jan 22 07:14:40 NVIDIA(0): reinstalling the NVIDIA driver.

The 2 packages I think broke it is:
xserver-xorg-core 2:1.6.4-2ubuntu4 (karmic) updated to xserver-xorg-core
2:1.6.4-2ubuntu4.1 (karmic-updates)
xserver-common 2:1.6.4-2ubuntu4 (karmic) updated to xserver-common
2:1.6.4-2ubuntu4.1 (karmic-updates)

Thanks in advance!

Re: [Bug 289484] Re: package cairo-dock-data 1.6.2.3-0ubuntu1 failed to install/upgrade: trying to overwrite `/usr/share/cairo-dock/emblems/charge.svg', which is also in package cairo-dock

2008-11-17 Thread Blade II
Hello, Hoa Le

I don't think the problem is solved by that solution you mentioned, yet
it is solved as the new version of cairo-dock, which does not have the
problem described here, is uploaded to the repository on the 15th of
November (about 3 days ago). So re-installation could solve the problem.

However, all the themes have gone for this new version. Well, it
happened to 64bit version only I think. If you check out the link below,
you can see the size of cairo-dock 64bit version is about 1.4 MiB, but
it used to be about 7 MiB.

http://repository.cairo-dock.org/ubuntu/dists/intrepid/cairo-dock
/binary-amd64/

The /usr/share/cairo-dock/themes directory has only the default theme.

Although you can still download themes using 'Manage themes' menu, there
is no 'MacOS X Leopard' theme available from the menu any more. If
anyone wants to have it, it can be acquired from the link below.

MacOSX Leopard Cairo-Dock Theme 1.0
http://www.gnome-look.org/content/show.php/MacOSX+Leopard+Cairo-Dock+Theme?content=89410

After downloading the archive file, extract it to
/usr/share/cairo-dock/themes directory or
/home/${USER}/.config/cairo-dock/themes directory then use 'Manage
themes' menu in the cairo-dock.

Regards,
Kevin

Sorry, Hoa Le.

Your disappearing problem is different from the one I thought. I thought
it was that the cairo-dock plug-in is not installed properly. :)

Anyway, it's good to hear that my problem and yours are all solved. :D

Martin Pitt and mac_v, because of the nature of the bug that I

This bug ended up being about the file browser plugin, and the negative
behaviour was wholly dependent on what folder the file resided in. This
patch aims to address that issue.

Also, can you guys try disabling the filebrowser plugin, to see if that
resolves the issue? For this bug, that should resolve the issue
completely in both 2.24.0 and 2.24.1

[Bug 289484] [NEW] package cairo-dock-data 1.6.2.3-0ubuntu1 failed to install/upgrade: trying to overwrite `/usr/share/cairo-dock/emblems/charge.svg', which is also in package cairo-dock

2008-10-26 Thread Blade II
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: cairo-dock

I just updated the new version of cairo-dock and it crashed during the
update.

Now the theme and applets all disappeared and when I ran it through the
terminal I got the following messages.

I think the new plug-in has some problem and failed to update properly.

The attached image shows what I can see in the Synaptic Package Manager.

As you can see the version of 'cairo-dock-plug-ins' is different from
the versions of 'cairo-dock' and 'cairo-dock-data', and I'm also not
sure if the 'cairo-dock-data' is installed properly.

[Bug 287549] [NEW] scim does not work. I cannot change the input method.

2008-10-22 Thread Blade II
Public bug reported:

I had used scim well since I installed Ubuntu 8.10 (Intrepid) beta for
approximately 2 weeks or more. However, it suddenly did not work from 2
or 3 days ago (19th or 20th?) and still doesn't. I believe some updates
I had a few days ago caused this.

My problem is that when I press the hotkey to change the input method to
the one for another language that is Korean in my case, neither the scim
icon on the tray is changed nor scim is working. I did not change any
configuration related to scim. When it worked, if I click on the scim
icon on the tray, I could see available input methods which were English
and Korean yet now it does not appear when I click on it.

I'm not sure what kind of information I need to put here to give some
idea to the development team so could you please let me know what to do?

I'm using Ubuntu 8.10 (Intrepid) beta version updated about one hour ago and
the kernel is
2.6.27-7-generic

and the following lines are what I got when I checked the currently
working processes the names of which contain the word 'scim'.

[Bug 212497] Re: r8169 driver does not work with Realtek RTL8111C gigabit ethernet chip in Ubuntu 8.04 Hardy Heron

2008-10-14 Thread Blade II
Hmm, it is very weird as it works on my PC since, I believe, 8.10
Intrepid alpha 5.

Now I'm using Intrepid beta because I got another bug reported in the following
link after upgrading the ram of my PC from 2 GiB to 4 GiB. I was using 8.04.1.
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-intel/+bug/177492

Anyway, using Intrepid beta solved the problem of EXA and it does not
have the problem of realtek network described in this report.

$ lspci | grep Ethernet
02:00.0 Ethernet controller: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. RTL8111/8168B PCI
Express Gigabit Ethernet controller (rev 02)

This is mine but the driver loaded is 8169, and it works.

I don't understand what is going on here. It works on some PCs but does
not for some others?

I had this problem and tried to solve it with adding those three lines

I eventually decided to try the new version that is Intrepid so upgraded from

Hey, Nathan. Yes, you are right. :D
I used the live CD to test the Alpha 4 version. So you are saying that if I
install it on my PC then it should work, aren't you?

Does that mean it works without updating the kernel? Anyway, as I
already mentioned, I can't install it now.

Thank you anyway. :)

[Bug 212497] Re: r8169 driver does not work with Realtek RTL8111C gigabit ethernet chip in Ubuntu 8.04 Hardy Heron

2008-08-27 Thread Blade II
I'm sorry to report this late. I tested it last weekend yet didn't have
time at all.

I downloaded two versions below through torrent.
intrepid-desktop-amd64.iso
intrepid-desktop-i386.iso

Both images passed the integrity test before and after burning these to
CDs.

1.intrepid-desktop-amd64.iso
Result: Failed (Same as Hardy Heron)
I tested five times and it worked three times and did not work two
times. So the wired connection sometimes works sometimes does not.
2 / 5 : failed
3 / 5 : succeeded

2.intrepid-desktop-i386.iso
Much worse than 64bit version. I could not even get the Desktop screen. After
showing the screen with progress bar when it is being booted, it displays
nothing. Not even a mouse cursor. Just black dark screen. I also found that
when the progress bar is shown, some broken part of progress bar appears around
the original one. I've attached the image so you can check this out. (Sorry
about the quality of the image. I had to use my mobile to take it).

I tested ten times and only three times I could get the Desktop. Those
three times, it worked yet that network problem is occurred just
sometimes, and I could test only three times out of the ten times of
attempt. So I could not really test it to see whether the problem is
fixed or not.

So to sum up,
intrepid-desktop-amd64.iso: It still has the same problem. The ethernet card
sometimes works sometimes does not.

intrepid-desktop-i386.iso: It could not be tested as most of the time it
displays nothing. (I'd probably better report this as a separate bug).

I'll attach dmesg, the version signature and lspci.

Thanks for the Ubuntu development team and I hope we can get it fixed
soon.

Regards,
Kevin

By the way, intrepid-desktop-i386.iso file attached in the first comment

It shows the broken progress bar.

[Bug 212497] Re: r8169 driver does not work with Realtek RTL8111C gigabit ethernet chip in Ubuntu 8.04 Hardy Heron

2008-07-08 Thread Blade II
Thank you so much guys for the information.

Yes, that can be an alternative, yet installing the driver manually is
not so good in my opinion.

That is because one advantage of using Ubuntu is that it is much more
convenient and easier to use than MS Windows I think. However, if we
need to install the network card driver manually, by definition, it is
very annoying and inconvenient, and therefore this also means losing
that advantage of using Ubuntu. In addition, the manual install is not
as easy as double clicking deb package file, and we need to repeat this
whenever a new kernel is released. As we all know, Ubuntu 8.04 Hardy
Heron has got three times of the kernel update since it was released. I
really hope the developers of Ubuntu will solve this problem soon...

In the meantime, yes, after all, I installed the 8168 driver just like
some others, yet I took an easy way which is using the installation
script, provided by Jameson Williams. The following is the URL to find
it.

http://www.jamesonwilliams.com/hardy-r8168.html

It works fine now after installing it, and I hope the link above can
help others.

Kevin

[Bug 212497] Re: r8169 driver does not work with Realtek RTL8111C gigabit ethernet chip in Ubuntu 8.04 Hardy Heron

** Description changed:

  Hello, this is Kevin.

+ (I posted it when I tested beta version of Ubuntu 8.04, yet now I have 8.04
32bit Desktop Edition released version and, it still has the problem.)

  #My PC Info.
  CPU: Intel E2160

card.)

I've just installed Ubuntu 8.04 beta version and now can't use network at
all. It does not even have an IP address allocated. Everything is 0.0.0.0.
(Actually I upgraded from 7.10 to 8.04 beta.)

r8169 driver is loaded yet I don't think it supports Realteck RTL8111C

2008-04-24 Thread Blade II
Dean, I'm not sure if you had chance to read my reply on the other post
you've mentioned. Anyway, after I read your comment, I found that
Realtek released the new version of
RTL8111B/RTL8168B/RTL8111/RTL8168/RTL8111C ethernet card driver for
Linux three days ago.

I think the new one maybe solves the problem as the one, released in
January this year, solved the same problem, which occurred in Ubuntu
7.10. However, I haven't tested so it is just a guess.

Please check this out.

Hey, sasha.

The link is broken in the email so you need to manually copy and paste
the URL to the navigation toolbar of your web browser. You need to copy
from 'http://' to '/212497' and paste all in one line.

Otherwise you can come to the bug report post, where I'm writing this

correct link.

Just come to the link below and check out the comment.

Hey, Pieter Lexis. I'm sorry to hear that.

I think you'd better give the contents of /var/log/dmesg and the result

You've already mentioned your ethernet card model yet they probably need
more information about your Laptop, as sometimes a hardware problem can
be caused by other hardware.

I hope you will get the network drive fixed when Ubuntu 8.04 is
released.

[Bug 212497] Re: r8169 driver does not work with Realtek RTL8111C gigabit ethernet chip in Ubuntu 8.04 beta

2008-04-21 Thread Blade II
About two days ago I downloaded Ubuntu 8.04 RC version (ubuntu-8.04-rc-
desktop-i386.iso) and have just tested it.

Now it works!!! although the network driver installed is not r8168 but
r8169, which did not work at all for RTL8111C ethernet chip in Ubuntu
Linux 8.04 beta.

r8169 driver detected my ethernet chip and I can see its IP is allocated
correctly. I'm using it now, and believe it is working fine.

I tested it for approximately 30 minutes and left it for about one hour
then tested again. It is still working OK, and I could not find any
problems so far.

However, I did not install it. I just used Live CD to see if it works,
as my hard disk drive does not have enough space to backup the current
system (Ubuntu 7.10) so I cannot install it now.

Can anyone actually install and test it?

I hope the final released version of Ubuntu 8.04 Hardy will also have
the network driver fixed. Otherwise, no network means I can do nothing
because without network I cannot even get any bug fix patch files.

Thanks, Ubuntu Development Team!

Regards,
Kevin

P.S. Although lspci says my ethernet chip is RTL8111/8168B, yet
according to the motherboard manual, it is RTL8111C, and when my PC is
booted, I can see the network device is 8168. However, as I said, r8169
driver in Ubuntu 8.04 RC seems to work fine.

I've attached the result of lspci -vv.

[Bug 212497] Re: r8169 driver does not work with Realtek RTL8111C gigabit ethernet chip in Ubuntu 8.04 beta

2008-04-05 Thread Blade II
** Description changed:

  Hello, this is Kevin.

  My PC Info.
  CPU: Intel E2160
  M/B: Gigabyte GA-G31M-S2L
http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/Products/Motherboard/Products_Spec.aspx?ProductID=2693

+ Lan: Realtek RTL 8111C chip (10/100/1000 Mbit) (This is a on board network
card.)

I've just installed Ubuntu 8.04 beta version and now can't use network at all.
(Actually I upgraded from 7.10 to 8.04 beta.)

r8169 driver is loaded yet I don't think it supports Realteck RTL8111C
network chip. I had the exactly same problem when I first installed
Ubuntu 7.10 yet it was solved after I manually installed r8168 driver
from Realtek and removed the old one (r8169) as well as putting r8169 in
  blacklist.

I downloaded the driver from here:

http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/downloadsView.aspx?Langid=1PNid=13PFid=5Level=5Conn=4DownTypeID=3GetDown=false#2
  This file: ftp://210.51.181.211/cn/nic/r8168-8.005.00.tar.bz2

It solved my problem for Ubuntu 7.10 but now I have the same one after
  installing Ubuntu 8.04 beta.

- So I tried same thing that I did for 7.10 yet this time I got error

[Bug 112803] Re: MASTER [Feisty] cupsd leaking file descriptors (was: Multiple jobs are not printed)

2007-06-13 Thread Blade
Recompiling Edgy's cupsys 1.2.4 works as a workaround. Was tired of
restarting cups servers.

# wget http://launchpadlibrarian.net/4710126/cupsys_1.2.4.orig.tar.gz
# wget http://launchpadlibrarian.net/4710127/cupsys_1.2.4-2ubuntu3.diff.gz
# wget http://launchpadlibrarian.net/4710128/cupsys_1.2.4-2ubuntu3.dsc
# dpkg-source -x cupsys_cupsys_1.2.4-2ubuntu3.dsc
# cd cupsys-1.2.4
# dpkg-buildpackage -rfakeroot
# cd ..
# sudo dpkg -i *.deb

This is a fairly serious error though. Without a workaround it prevents
ubuntu 7.10 to be even considered as a printing server.

2007-06-12 Thread Blade
Yes I've had to have cups restart every minute to work on a server. I'm
looking into trying to install the previous edgy version for a
workaround.

I too am having this error creep up on a fully updated Fiesty.

Edgy seems unaffected though.
