[Bug 417757] Re: [karmic regression] all network apps / browsers suffer from multi-second delays by default due to IPv6 DNS lookups

2010-01-10 Thread Brad Peters
Can anyone confirm this is now fixed? I reverted back to Jaunty at work
until this was confirmed fixed. I see the fix was released, but I want
to be certain before I incur more downtime on my box.

[Bug 417757] Re: [karmic regression] all network apps / browsers suffer from multi-second delays by default due to IPv6 DNS lookups

2010-01-05 Thread Brad Peters
I tested the karmic-proposed package on my work machine, however, I'm
still having intermittent issues with this. Since this is a work
machine, I'm at the mercy of our IT department as far as routers and DNS
resolution goes. I've disabled all workarounds, installed the new
package and rebooted. It worked for about five minutes before going
back to the same behavior I was seeing previously.

All throughout this bug report, a lot of people (developers, I'm
assuming) have commented that the routers are broken and it shouldn't be
on Ubuntu to fix the problem. I'm sorry, but if I go from a working
version of Ubuntu (Jaunty) and upgrade, I expect everything to work
equally as well, if not better, than the previous release.

[Bug 292450] Re: Broadcom STA/wl driver causes random kernel panics

2009-04-04 Thread Brad Peters
I just wanted to comment and let you all know that the new version is
performing great on my Inspiron 1720. No lockups, crashes or kernel
panics, and in fact it's performing better than the old B43 driver (I
get 100% connect to my AP vs. 91%).

[Bug 191390] [NEW] Console cursor alignment issue

2008-02-12 Thread Brad Peters
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: konsole

#lsb_release -a
Distributor ID: Ubuntu
Description:Ubuntu 7.10
Release:7.10
Codename: gutsy

#uname -r
2.6.22-14-generic

Applications:
Problem is visible on both Gnome terminal 2.18.2 and Konsole 1.6.6 on KDE 3.5.8

---
Hardware:
I've seen this on two systems running Ubuntu 7.10, IBM Thinkpad T41p, and a IBM
Thinkpad T42p, on both integrated and USB keyboards.
---
Problem description:
Cursor misaligns by 4 characters whenever HOME is pressed. Thereafter,
alignment remains off, almost as thought the text were shifted over 4 bytes,
although visually it appears to be in its original location. This makes
editing a past command very difficult. Here is text copied directly from the
command line:

1. Original command:
#echo test text
test text

2. Press up arrow, then HOME then 1:
#echo1 test text
bash: 1echo: command not found

The 1 appears at the end of 'echo', but is obviously at the start of the
command. This appears to be a buffer alignment issue, somewhere outside
of (below) the actual console app. It seemed to appear in Ubuntu 7.10,
as I had been running 7.04 previously and never saw the problem.

** Affects: kdebase (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Bug 51991] Re: Xorg process freezes, uses 100% of CPU. Can be killed by remote terminal.

2007-08-24 Thread Brad Peters
I've noted in Gutsy Tribe 4 (and now 5) that I have not had a single
lockup in any situation where I normally had a lockup. I think this is
most likely due to the newer version of Xorg being used. If any of you
have the spare space, I'd try testing out Gutsy and see how your results
are, or at least upgrade when the actual release hits. It's very
possible this might be solved.

[Bug 121383] Re: Custom DSDT not loading with kernel 2.6.22-6-generic

2007-08-13 Thread Brad Peters
It looks like the loading now works, however, the custom DSDT that I had
used in Feisty no longer works in Gutsy. I attempted to load a couple
other DSDTs which caused my system to hardlock until I removed them and
rebuild the initrd, which is how I know the loading functionality works.
My guess is that something in the kernel changed between 2.6.20 and
2.6.22 that's causing these issues.

[Bug 121383] Custom DSDT not loading with kernel 2.6.22-6-generic

2007-06-20 Thread Brad Peters
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: linux-source-2.6.22

My laptop has a weird DSDT which is not supported out of the box. Under
Feisty, I could load a custom DSDT that would enable sound on my laptop.
Since my upgrade this morning, I noticed I did not have sound. I
checked /var/log/messages and noted the following:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ cat /var/log/messages | grep DSDT
Jun 20 08:49:58 localhost kernel: [ 20.165245] ACPI: Looking for DSDT in
initramfs... successfully read 31951 bytes from /DSDT.aml.
Jun 20 08:49:58 localhost kernel: [ 20.165305] ACPI (tbget-0297): Table
[DSDT] replaced by host OS [20060707]
Jun 20 11:07:27 localhost kernel: [0.00] ACPI: DSDT 7FE9311A, 8A9C (r1
TOSQCI Denver 604 MSFT 301)
Jun 20 12:12:45 localhost kernel: [0.00] ACPI: DSDT 7FE9311A, 8A9C (r1
TOSQCI Denver 604 MSFT 301)

The upgrade occurred around 11am. As you can see, prior to the upgrade
the DSDT was loaded correctly, however now it is not loaded. I hope
this functionality was not done away with, as I have no other options
that I'm aware of to get sound working.

[Bug 51991] Re: Xorg process freezes, uses 100% of CPU. Can be killed by remote terminal.

2007-05-25 Thread Brad Peters
Hi Sitsofe,

Sorry it's been a bit since I've responded. I'm not in front of that
machine right now to provide you withe the info you want, but I have a
copy of the nvidia-bug-report.log file which may contain what you are
looking for. I checked into the other bug you mentioned and went a step
further and uninstalled powernowd, however, I still get the random
lockups. Nvidia themselves aren't much help; I need to follow up with
them. I'll post the other info you've asked about when I get back in
front of that machine.

[Bug 109453] Re: [nvidia-glx-new] NVidia driver freezes xorg

2007-05-22 Thread Brad Peters
I have this issue as well, and I have tried different NvAGP settings.
The system locks up with 100% CPU usage by Xorg, but I could still log
into the box and pulled some information. I ran the nvidia-bug-
report.sh file, and I've attached the information here. I'll also send
onto Nvidia, but I wanted to provide it here as well

[Bug 51991] Re: Xorg process freezes, uses 100% of CPU. Can be killed by remote terminal.

2007-04-27 Thread Brad Peters
Unfortunately this is happening on Feisty as well to me. I'm using the
latest Nvidia drivers with a GeForce 6800 PCI-express Nvidia card.
System specs are below:

Intel Pentium D 830 (3.0gHz dual core)
2GB RAM
Nforce chipset

I experience the exact symptoms as above, at random times, using random
applications. For example, last night's lockup occurred while I was
surfing around using Firefox, while another one occurred while I was
listening to tunes in Amarok. The Windows side of this box works fine.
I'm thinking this may be a kernel / xorg issue as it's happened to me on
other distributions with this box as well, so I don't think it's Ubuntu-
specific.

[Bug 63026] Re: Screen out of range on CRT monitor at X start

2006-10-02 Thread Brad Peters
I have the same issue, however my monitor is not telling me what Kubuntu
is trying to use. My card is a GeForce 6800 256MB PCI-e connected to a
Dell E197FP 19 Flat Panel LCD. I posted to the Ubuntu forums and it
was suggested that I attempt to use the alternate install and then
install the proprietary drivers, which I can definitely do since I'm
switching away from Gentoo.
