[Bug 1017841] Re: [Thinkpad Edge 15] register is already in use for vector 0xf9 on another cpu

2012-06-26 Thread Brendan Donegan
Well, this is the first time we're using fwts to do suspend testing.
Previously we would have tested suspend at a basic level, using the
'suspend_test' script in Checkbox, which itself uses pm-suspend

[Bug 1015619] Re: System testing instructions misleading on optical/cdromwrite

2012-06-21 Thread Brendan Donegan
Hi Robert,

In Precise it is not asked to use a CDROM, instead it asks for CD-R
explicitly. The word 'Enter' is still there though. I think given that
the CDROM reference was the most misleading thing and is no longer
there, this bug should be considered of Low importance.

As for Oneiric, we would welcome a contribution, but in order for it to
make it to the release it would have to be SRU'ed. We have no plans to
do an SRU for Checkbox so this is extremely unlikely to happen. We would
much rather people tested Precise instead since there is little reason
to run Oneiric at this point unless Precise has broken something in your
hardware.

[Bug 926136] Re: CPU1 on Dell PowerEdge M610, R715 and IBM X3500 M3 goes offline after exercising frequency governors

2012-04-26 Thread Brendan Donegan
@Colin,

Yes, I had this same thought yesterday. To make the grep do what it's
supposed to do I can just use the '-w' option, meaning it will only
match on word boundaries, so CPU1 won't match CPU11. Along with the
robustness enhancements suggested, I'll be making these changes and
resubmitting.

The whole 'working on Oneiric but not Precise' thing really threw me
(the grep should have been failing in both), but it seems like fixing
the script is going to get rid of the problem.

2012-04-25 Thread Brendan Donegan
I'll fix up the script so that it:

a.) Avoids offlining CPUs which already are (and vice versa)
b.) Doesn't bail out and leave things in an indeterminate state

I *still* don't understand how this wouldn't impact any system though,
and this bug is only being seen on some.

[Bug 942572] Re: Notify OSD panel is opaque when shown in the installer

** Description changed:

When notify-osd triggers during the install (such as when networks are
detected or connected to) the panel shown is fully opaque. The border is
dark grey and the centre is some random color (mainly aubergine,
sometime orange, red or even blue).

- The same problem is not exhibited in the live session, otherwise I would
- assign this against notify-osd itself.

[Bug 984387] Re: [Dell Studio XPS 1340] Kernel panic with 3.0.0-19 on boot

2012-04-18 Thread Brendan Donegan
Daniel, the InfraRed reciever (which would appear to be built in to the
XPS) may be the culprit. If you could switch it off in the BIOS and
retest that might tell us whether that is infact the problem.
Alternatively, blacklist the 'ite-cir' module.

[Bug 983809] Re: Source trunk and packages seem to be out-of-sync

2012-04-17 Thread Brendan Donegan
This isn't a bug, it's intended - since feature freeze took affect we've
been carefully picking changes from trunk to put in the package source.
I would just follow up on the branch that you proposed mentioning that
the change is not in the packaged version. We can work it out from
there.

[Bug 971181] Re: Interface asks about skipping tests that are automatically marked Yes

2012-04-10 Thread Brendan Donegan
Well, the problem here is that the 'Yes' button is merely focused and
never actually clicked. Clicking 'Next' always implies you want to skip
a test. Perhaps the description is the culprit here? Unfortunately we
can't write a description that makes sense for both UI's though. The
best workaround I can come up with is to intercept the click event on
'Next' and check if 'Yes' or 'No' is focused and then pass on the click
event to the relevant button.

[Bug 964112] [NEW] Super key not working to open Dash

2012-03-24 Thread Brendan Donegan
Public bug reported:

On my Samsung N310 after freshly installing Precise Beta 2 it seems that
pressing the Super key does not open the Dash. This is strange because
pressing any other combination of Super + Something else works fine.
E.g. Super + A opens the Dash applications lense and Super + W does the
global window spread. Furthermore, holding the Super key brings up the
shortcuts on the launcher icons.

[Bug 960311] Re: Networking on Dell PowerEdge R300 with Broadcom Corporation NetXtreme BCM5722 Gigabit Ethernet PCI Express is not functional

2012-03-21 Thread Brendan Donegan
It should be noted that this is not a black and white case of the card
never working. it still works to allow the system to pxe install and is
accesible for a few minutes after boot (the firmware error is being
echoed at 1385 in the log, over 20 minutes after booting)

** Description changed:

After installing Precise Beta1 on this server, the network card is not
usable and this message appears in dmesg:

  [ 1385.620013] tg3 :01:00.0: vpd r/w failed. This is likely a
firmware bug on this device. Contact the card vendor for a firmware
  update.

Running ifconfig shows only an inet6 address. The system is not
accesible by ssh (obviously) but we were able to retrieve dmesg
  manually.
+
+ The system was PxE installed so at some level the network hardware is
+ working.

Stefan,

To answer your questions, this machine has been working until the
beginning of this week. I have attached dmesg log from the last
successful instance of the system working.

Please disregard comment #8 - I was initially able to SSH to this system
but eventually lost connectivity. At 1358 (seconds after boot I presume)
the same message as in the bug appeared again.

[Bug 960311] Re: Networking on Dell PowerEdge R300 with Broadcom Corporation NetXtreme BCM5722 Gigabit Ethernet PCI Express is not functional

2012-03-21 Thread Brendan Donegan
I managed to get a run done with the following kernel, which I thought
would be the latest daily :

Linux ubuntu 3.2.0-2-generic #5-Ubuntu SMP Mon Nov 28 18:10:23 UTC 2011
x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

With this kernel the network is working. However I'm confused by the
fact that the version number is older than the one I raised the bug
against? I think I might have accidentally used an older image and not
infact the latest daily. This is one extra data point though.

2012-03-20 Thread Brendan Donegan
So far I have only got to try with Oneiric and the issue is still
happening. I think this system got a firmware upgrade very recently
which I didn't know about. It's up to you guys to decide if it's still a
bug, but in the meantime I have no way to get full logs for this bug. I
can try testing the latest daily and get someone to manually install the
upstream kernel though.
