I think that's by design. On my system, if I run texhash as root, then it updates everything but my ~/texmf directory. If I run texhash as USER, then it updates /home/USER/texmf. Try \usepackage{lscape}, and then \begin{landscape}...\end{landscape}
I have lscape on my system (standard install). It could be that
landscape.sty has been replaced by lscape.sty
In general, when you update TeX and you think you have lost something, it's
very likely that a different package supplies the functionality you're looking
for. TUG (TeX Users Group) is a good starting point for figuring out how to do
whatever with TeX.

The problem no longer occurs. I don't know why it did before. I have changed a few things, but I'm not sure what fixed it. Maybe the bug should just be removed, since I posted it and I can't reproduce it. Then again, maybe there is a quirk somewhere that makes it happen. Right, but texlive-humanities contains some of the files that had been in texlive-extra. So if anyone is trying to do an upgrade from texlive-2005 then it could very well break things. I had one particular file that compiled fine with texlive 2005, but failed to compile with 2007 until i added texlive-humanities. Not a big deal to me. I managed to find what I needed. I just thought you might want the information. I had to manually install texlive-humanities. I had upgraded from texlive 2005. I know this bug is about tetex, but it seems related anyhow. It appears that texlive-humanities-2005 doesn't exist but texlive-humanities-2007 does. Public bug reported: Binary package hint: ksynaptics My synaptics touchpad worked great in Feisty. I don't like the default behavior so I use ksynaptics to manage the touchpad. In gutsy, with ksynaptics 0.3.3-2ubuntu1, xorg 1:7.2-3ubuntu3, and xorg-driver-fglrx 7.1.0-8.34.8+2.6.22.1-6.8 Maybe it's a problem with the xserver. I am using a patch for fglrx found here: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux-restricted-modules-2.6.22/+bug/115188 I don't think the patch would affect this, but I don't really know. I have disabled tapping, but sometimes tapping still happens. The scroll area on the right covers 1/4 of the touchpad. OK. That's just weird. I had the same problem, changed my timezone to Berlin, and the update worked just fine. The update is in process, if it finishes I'll try to change my timezone back.
