I can also confirm that this issue still exists in 10.04. So if this has
been moved to a separate bug report, as Vish said, where is that other
bug report? There is also a related issue that I think is only relevant
to 10.04 - there is no way to remove the hibernate or sleep options from
the indicator menu! Let me know if I can provide any files or other
helpful info, it would be awesome if we could fix this by the 10.10
release eh?

Same problem here, I cannot do any testing on it currently though as I
took the soundcard out temporarily so I can use the internal sound and
at least use Skype. I'm on Lucid with Kernel 2.6.32-22-generic, this was
also an issue in Karmic if that matters.
