Re: [Bug 422536] Re: EDAC amd64: WARNING: ECC is NOT currently enabled by the BIOS. Module will NOT be loaded.
Okay, folks, so I just kept updating and updating and it finally worked itself out. Be sure to remove all plasmoids from the desktop. On another machine I updated that was causing the problems. I figured it out as it kept crashing as soon as that plasmoid tried to install. Make sure you are getting the kernel updates. Also, KPackageKit Will hold back certain updates for some reason. I am not sure why or the logic behind it and could never find a reason but if you use CLI apt-get or Synaptic GUI instead, you will have all the updates installed. Frequently do CLI apt-get autoremove, apt-get autoclean and apt-get clean so that you will get fresh update files. Sometimes I find that if a file exists in the apt cache it will get skipped when updating. Also, be sure to have the latest video driver. If you are using nVidia, be sure to do your research on updating. DO NOT CHOOSE THE FIRST ONE YOU FIND. Read through several solutions first. I tend to get a little antsy and think if the first one I see sounds good I'll try that. Just keep reading down the search engine page. It will become blatantly clear which one to choose by the time you get to the bottom. I shut down plasmoids that were connecting with Google and one giving weather and it all stopped. Sometimes depending on the updates, certain plasmoids crash due with python errors. The next following update usually corrects that problem. Most of the time, I just suppose in the beta state that updates are pushed out quickly maybe too soon but then when finding those errors are patched immediately and then pushed out again the following day. [Bug 441882] [NEW] Updating HPLIP fails for HP Color Laserjet CP1215 - inconsistent file updates
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: hplip Plugged in HP Color Laserjet CP1215 using USB. Plug-n-Play finds it and starts install process. I have HP printer packages installed first. It fails when asked to install the HPLIP plug-in and directs me to install HPLIP manually. I then try to install the printer manually through CUPS web interface. This succeeds and works but does not show up in HPLIP-GUI. Various forum posts say insure all files are updated. Current version of HPLIP 3.9.8 is installed. Checking in Synaptic client and CLI aptitude/apt-get, HPIJS-PPDS requests update but fails because '...-0ubuntu...' suffix is not following the updates. The companion files are behind one version, 3.9.8-0ubuntu6. As follows: hpijs-ppds: Depends: hpijs (=3.9.8-0ubuntu7) but 3.9.8-0ubuntu6 is to be installed HPLIP-GUI also fails as it requests: To be removed hpijs hpijs-ppds hplip hplip-cups I ran: hp-check -r and hp-check -c. (see attached results) I installed the missing dependencies but still HPLIP does not want to work. It is still showing errors of missing dependencies: cupsddk and cupsddk-drivers cupsddk is already installed but cupsddk-drivers doesn't exist in the repositories. [Bug 441882] Re: Updating HPLIP fails for HP Color Laserjet CP1215 - inconsistent file updates
Alright read a recent post from Ubuntu team that there is updates every two hours on some packages. Also, since earlier today, the main server and US server were stalling, I was connecting with the Duke University mirror that may not have been updating with the main servers for the same reason. This may have been causing the problems. So, connecting back to the main server, I see now over 130 updates since this morning. Will follow-up. Guess the advice to me for this distro is, wait a day before reporting. It can eat up your busy schedule. ** Changed in: hplip (Ubuntu) Status: New = In Progress ** Tags added: cp1215 -- Updating HPLIP fails for HP Color Laserjet CP1215 - inconsistent file updates https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/441882 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 84717] Re: SRU: updates necessary for Kubuntu Upgrade Tool in Edgy
Disregard that last outburst. Somehow had a bad login. Maybe due to bad logoff rather than restart. Rebooted and all is well in Kubuntu land again. [Bug 84717] Re: SRU: updates necessary for Kubuntu Upgrade Tool in Edgy
URGENT!!! Okay, all is working fine with a couple of exceptions so far: Cannot adjust Date Time either from the system tray or from system settings. I get an error that says, Su returned with an error. This is a really bad bug and really cannot understand how this would have changed unless some automated diff operation when bad. Please fix this. ** Attachment added: Date Time su error http://librarian.launchpad.net/7221319/date_time_su_error.png -- SRU: updates necessary for Kubuntu Upgrade Tool in Edgy https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/84717 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 84717] Re: SRU: updates necessary for Kubuntu Upgrade Tool in Edgy
Same as Graham Hawkins, started Feisty from clod boot, Adept Updater notices a new version of Kubuntu is available. Please click Next In the Updater there is no Next button. Closed that. Started Adept Manager. Fetch Updates and Version Upgrade blue button appears. Click and dist-upgrade tool starts and says, A new distribution version is available! Click netxt if you wish to upgrade now. Click and Error! Could not download the release announcement. Please check that your Internet connection is active. Obviously, it is as Fetch Updates worked. Then tried in CLI sudo apt-get dist-upgrade just to make sure and nothing...All is already updated. -- SRU: updates necessary for Kubuntu Upgrade Tool in Edgy https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/84717 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 84717] Re: SRU: updates necessary for Kubuntu Upgrade Tool in Edgy
Like Geoff Mitchell, I had to remove all other reps to make this happen. Well, in the end, it fails the seamless test for me. It crashed on reboot and I had to roll it back to kernel 2.6.10 in order for it to boot up again. It failed to recognize my hard disk. Scary. Once I got it back up and running I did dpkg --configure -a and it loaded everything it was supposed to. I also lost binding to eth0 but uninstalling Knetworkmanager and reinstalling fixed that. Doing the upgrades now and all seems just fine and stable. I think that it be very pertinent that only the necessary repositories be active for the dist-upgrade. Having too much going on except what is absolutely necessary may help smoothen things out. Thank for all the hard work. This seems pretty rock solid so far. [Bug 84717] Re: SRU: updates necessary for Kubuntu Upgrade Tool in Edgy
Download went fine after several hours. Installation was spot-on until it tried to install Tomcat 5.5. Says: Cannot install Tomcat 5.5 Report bug against update-manager Subprocess post-installation script returned error exit status 1 Then when I clicked on Close: I got another error message that said somewhat the same thing plus: Going to reboot using dpkg-reconfigure -a InstallArchives() failed When I clicked Close, it crashed and is frozen. Also, the report Bug button doesn't work. It seems to look for an application but there is nothing associated. ** Attachment added: dist-upgrade log http://librarian.launchpad.net/7100260/main.log -- SRU: updates necessary for Kubuntu Upgrade Tool in Edgy https://launchpad.net/bugs/84717 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Okay, I also get a black screen with an outlined x in the center trying to boot up the Kubuntu 6.10 Edgy Live CD. Tried everything and then came to ByteJuggler's fix and it worked to at least get me to a desktop. https://bugs.launchpad.net/distros/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-ati/+bug/67487/comments/81 Now, to see if I can get a clean install going. I totally respect and appreciate your insight and granular intelligence on this issue with less than the latest equipment. Such high level understanding for such impoverished people. This is the truest statement of open source, indeed. If the collective can get this fixed and patched so that these issues are not dealt with in Feisty, you all deserve brand spanking new machines. Don't let the developers create a MS situation where nothing is backward compatible. That will sink the entire project. Times are really tough economically. They just raised the minimum wage here in CA but then raised the bridge toll by $1.
