[Bug 1319491] Re: Broadcom 4312 WLAN connection times out

[Bug 1319491] [NEW] Broadcom 4312 WLAN connection times out
Public bug reported: On a clean updated 14.04 i686 I've installed the b43 driver/firmware by simply installing the firmware-b43-installer and I got the behavior. Later I installed additionally the linux-firmware-nonfree but it didn't change a thing. What basically happens is: [ 1276.674500] wlan0: authenticate with 00:24:d1:7a:23:d9 [ 1276.685246] wlan0: direct probe to 00:24:d1:7a:23:d9 (try 1/3) [ 1276.888134] wlan0: direct probe to 00:24:d1:7a:23:d9 (try 2/3) [ 1277.092106] wlan0: direct probe to 00:24:d1:7a:23:d9 (try 3/3) [ 1277.296170] wlan0: authentication with 00:24:d1:7a:23:d9 timed out And so on. The attached system info has been acquired after I tried the linux- firmware-nonfree after uninstalling (purge) the firmware-b43-installer package. The system has not been modified in any other way. ** Affects: linux-firmware-nonfree (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: firmware wireless ** Attachment added: troubleshooting and system info https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1319491/+attachment/4112502/+files/wifi_tbs_info.txt ** Package changed: b43-fwcutter (Ubuntu) = linux-firmware-nonfree (Ubuntu) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1319491 Title: Broadcom 4312 WLAN connection times out To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux-firmware-nonfree/+bug/1319491/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1086985] Re: It takes a long time to detect my Wi-Fi network -- Intel PRO/Wireless 5100 AGN iwlwifi
Done. 1. Launched the iso - my network available in the list of networks, right away. 2. Radios OFF (hardware switch) and ON - my network not available in the list, even under 'More...'. [Bug 1080291] [NEW] Overheating Lenovo Thinkpad T500
Public bug reported: Lenovo Thinkpad T500 runs hot / on high fan RPM when configured to use the discrete Mobility Radeon 3650 instead Intel graphics. I haven't noticed any differences between Catalyst and open source driver so I'm reporting from Catalyst-configured configuration. Open source is a no- go! I use sensors command in terminal to verify temp values: For intel it's below 2000 RPM and temps circa 40 For AMD it's close to 3000 RPM and temps 45 and higher. Once RPM reaches higher threshold, it never goes to lower RPM values. [Bug 1080337] [NEW] Intel vs AMD desktop performance - worse on AMD
Public bug reported: Not much to say here. I can clearly see that during Superkey+W (unity shortcut) or Ctrl+Shift+E in Firefox animations on Intel are smoother. Some time ago I quit using AMD on my system because browser performance was unbearable - see http://askubuntu.com/questions/92080/why-do-i-have- poor-video-performance-in-browsers-with-a-ati-hd3650-gpu for details (video + overall experience). In 12.04 the difference was much more severe. In 12.10 the difference is less pronounced (Firefox performance on AMD got better), but it's still noticeable (12.10, desktop perf.: Intel vs AMD). I acquired *.apport files from different configurations on my system, so let me know what's needed to move the troubleshooting further. [Bug 990002] Re: Slow Dash animation
@penalvch Please confirm that you still would like me to perform the above knowing that: 1. System updates made the issue somewhat (see point 2 below) go away. Not long after I filed the bug report. The login screen seems to be working as it should completely, performance-wise. 2. I am unable to assess whether Dash on my system performs at 100% right now. It may be that just the animation settings are ridiculous (see point 4 below). 3. I use a custom Compiz (?) configuration i.e. I've changed some settings via CCSM 4. Also see this AskUbuntu question I posted: http://askubuntu.com/questions/138622/how-to-disable-all-unity-animations Note: I am not a 'power user'. If I get stuck with the testing I will have to ask for help here. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/990002 Title: Slow Dash animation To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/990002/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 990002] Re: Slow Dash animation
I'll get it done soon but let me rephrase my concerns: I got terrible performance of Dash and the log in screen. Within the first month after the 12.04 release some updates vastly improved the performance. The problem is I'm not sure whether I regained 100% performance or just e.g. 95%. Ridiculously long animation times in Unity prevent me from identifying it.
OK, here's my final findings: a) (if I'm forced to answer Y/N) the bug no longer exist on my system. Fixed by updates received via Update Manager during the first month after 12.04 release b) testing the following mainline kernels I did not notice any differences regarding Dash and login screen performance: 3.4.0-030400 Currently using the latest official: 3.2.0.26 I also tried 3.5.0-5. No major culprits but I can't say if it doesn't affect the bug scope, so disregard it, please. c) I was running a custom Compiz configuration (done via CCSM) at the moment of submitting data through apport. See the attached screenshot. That said I did not alter Compiz configuration prior to receiving the fix (see point a)) ** Attachment added: launchpad_bug990002_bucic_ccsm.png https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/990002/+attachment/3248003/+files/launchpad_bug990002_bucic_ccsm.png ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete = Fix Released -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/990002 Title: Slow Dash animation To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/990002/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 990002] Re: Slow Dash animation
apport information ** Tags added: apport-collected running-unity staging ** Description changed: Dash show/hide animations are very slow. It gets worse with Dash set to open as maximized. [Bug 990002] Re: Slow Dash animation
Indeed, much improved. But still crap. This is ridiculous! Whoever came up with this dynamic blur should find another profession perhaps. Or why don't he enlighten us, why would I need to see a blurred website as a background to dash filled with objects. Or a YouTube video playing there (sic!).
[Bug 990002] [NEW] Slow Dash animation
Public bug reported: Dash show/hide animations are very slow. It gets worse with Dash set to open as maximized. Then it takes almost a full second to appear and slightly less to hide. The current background does not affect this behavior. It can be a solid color wallpaper or a web page. Same. I don't know whether it's relevant but the blurred image is translated ~4 mm down in relation to original image I see on my display. Thinkpad T500 Intel 4500M HD graphics (selected as the only graphics) Ubuntu 12.04 amd64 / Ubuntu 12.04 Beta 2 amd64 , clean I have also noticed that the login screen works terribly laggy as well. ** Affects: linux (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/990002 Title: Slow Dash animation To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/990002/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
