[Bug 1319491] Re: Broadcom 4312 WLAN connection times out

2014-05-25 Thread Bucic
I've just tried Manjaro Netbook edition manjaro-netbook-0.8.9-i686.iso and it's
all same. Exactly the same 'timed out' message in dmesg.
[manjaro@manjaro ~]$ lsmod | grep -i b43
b43 341673 0
bcma 31280 1 b43
mac80211 402934 1 b43
cfg80211 345465 2 b43,mac80211
ssb48195 1 b43
mmc_core 87040 2 b43,ssb
pcmcia 40213 2 b43,ssb

Unloading b43 and loading brcmsmac module will result in 'no wireless
extensions' at iwconfig.

[Bug 1319491] Re: Broadcom 4312 WLAN connection times out

2014-05-22 Thread Bucic
Isn't there a deb somewhere I could use to install beta firmware? Or a
deb allowing me to downgrade to some older version?

[Bug 1319491] [NEW] Broadcom 4312 WLAN connection times out

2014-05-14 Thread Bucic
Public bug reported:

On a clean updated 14.04 i686 I've installed the b43 driver/firmware by simply
installing the firmware-b43-installer and I got the behavior. Later I installed
additionally the linux-firmware-nonfree but it didn't change a thing. What
basically happens is:
[ 1276.674500] wlan0: authenticate with 00:24:d1:7a:23:d9
[ 1276.685246] wlan0: direct probe to 00:24:d1:7a:23:d9 (try 1/3)
[ 1276.888134] wlan0: direct probe to 00:24:d1:7a:23:d9 (try 2/3)
[ 1277.092106] wlan0: direct probe to 00:24:d1:7a:23:d9 (try 3/3)
[ 1277.296170] wlan0: authentication with 00:24:d1:7a:23:d9 timed out

And so on.

The attached system info has been acquired after I tried the linux-
firmware-nonfree after uninstalling (purge) the firmware-b43-installer
package. The system has not been modified in any other way.

** Affects: linux-firmware-nonfree (Ubuntu)

[Bug 1086985] Re: It takes a long time to detect my Wi-Fi network -- Intel PRO/Wireless 5100 AGN iwlwifi

2013-08-11 Thread Bucic
Done.

1. Launched the iso - my network available in the list of networks, right away.
2. Radios OFF (hardware switch) and ON - my network not available in the list,
even under 'More...'. Waited 60 seconds or so - nothing. Had to connect via
hidden...

I'd say the problem is still present. It certainly is on Fedora 19
x86_64 with kernels up to 3.10.5-201

I'd rather not. If you read the bios release notes, it says nothing
substantial has been updated. Please take a look at it. If you'd still
like me to test it, I may get to it sometime later (a week?).

[Bug 1086985] [NEW] It takes long to detect my home wifi

2012-12-05 Thread Bucic
Public bug reported:

Usually when I turn on my computer it takes very long time for the
network manager to detect my home wifi. Sometimes over a minute. I think
disabling/enabling wifi (using hardware switch on my lenovo thinkpad)
expedites the process. Anyway, it used to take 2 seconds on 11.10 for
example.

[Bug 1083291] Re: Redraws under the dash makes the dash too slow (active blur updates)

2012-11-27 Thread Bucic
Is it related to this bug:
Dash invoked by Super Key twice as slow to show -
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unity/+bug/1080276
?

I think 1080276 may be present because launcher animation happens
underneath dash, hogging everything.

[Bug 1083291] [NEW] Overlapping elements of Unity cause performance issues

2012-11-26 Thread Bucic
Public bug reported:

Steps to reproduce:
1. Open Dash without any windows visible (do it with only Desktop visible).
2. Move cursor fast along various elements and note performance.
3. Make e.g. Firefox visible with YouTube.com loaded and video playing. You can
try with other programs like Clementine player (its window) with music playing.
Music without activity won't do (e.g. Nautilus).
4. repeat step No. 1 and note performance drop. Performance drop also visible
per time it takes the Dash to close or open.

Expected behavior:
No visible performance drop.

[Bug 1080276] [NEW] Dash invoked by Super Key twice as slow to show

2012-11-18 Thread Bucic
Public bug reported:

Dash invoked by Super Key twice as slow to show up compared to when invoked by
clicking on the Ubuntu logo. I observed this behavior both in Ubuntu 12.04 x64
and 12.10 x64 with every single Ubuntu vs hardware/driver combination:
Intel HD 4500
AMD mobility radeon 3650 with open source driver
AMD mobility radeon 3650 with Catalyst 12.6 (installed from various sources -
didn't impact the behavior)

So at least 6 in total. I've athered quite a few command line off-line
report files for the combinations.

Also it's not only me. See http://askubuntu.com/questions/138622/how-to-

[Bug 1080291] [NEW] Overheating Lenovo Thinkpad T500

2012-11-18 Thread Bucic
Public bug reported:

Lenovo Thinkpad T500 runs hot / on high fan RPM when configured to use
the discrete Mobility Radeon 3650 instead Intel graphics. I haven't
noticed any differences between Catalyst and open source driver so I'm
reporting from Catalyst-configured configuration. Open source is a no-
go!

I use sensors command in terminal to verify temp values:
For intel it's below 2000 RPM and temps circa 40
For AMD it's close to 3000 RPM and temps 45 and higher. Once RPM reaches higher
threshold, it never goes to lower RPM values.

[Bug 1080337] [NEW] Intel vs AMD desktop performance - worse on AMD

2012-11-18 Thread Bucic
Public bug reported:

Not much to say here. I can clearly see that during Superkey+W (unity
shortcut) or Ctrl+Shift+E in Firefox animations on Intel are smoother.
Some time ago I quit using AMD on my system because browser performance
was unbearable - see http://askubuntu.com/questions/92080/why-do-i-have-
poor-video-performance-in-browsers-with-a-ati-hd3650-gpu for details
(video + overall experience).

In 12.04 the difference was much more severe. In 12.10 the difference is
less pronounced (Firefox performance on AMD got better), but it's still
noticeable (12.10, desktop perf.: Intel vs AMD).

I acquired *.apport files from different configurations on my system, so
let me know what's needed to move the troubleshooting further.

[Bug 990002] Re: Slow Dash animation

2012-08-04 Thread Bucic
@penalvch
Please confirm that you still would like me to perform the above knowing that:
1. System updates made the issue somewhat (see point 2 below) go away. Not long
after I filed the bug report. The login screen seems to be working as it should
completely, performance-wise.
2. I am unable to assess whether Dash on my system performs at 100% right now.
It may be that just the animation settings are ridiculous (see point 4 below).
3. I use a custom Compiz (?) configuration i.e. I've changed some settings via
CCSM
4. Also see this AskUbuntu question I posted:
http://askubuntu.com/questions/138622/how-to-disable-all-unity-animations

Note:
I am not a 'power user'. If I get stuck with the testing I will have to ask for
help here.

[Bug 990002] Re: Slow Dash animation

2012-08-04 Thread Bucic
I'll get it done soon but let me rephrase my concerns:
I got terrible performance of Dash and the log in screen. Within the first
month after the 12.04 release some updates vastly improved the performance. The
problem is I'm not sure whether I regained 100% performance or just e.g.
95%. Ridiculously long animation times in Unity prevent me from identifying it.

[Bug 990002] Re: Slow Dash animation

2012-08-04 Thread Bucic
OK, here's my final findings:
a) (if I'm forced to answer Y/N) the bug no longer exist on my system. Fixed by
updates received via Update Manager during the first month after 12.04 release
b) testing the following mainline kernels I did not notice any differences
regarding Dash and login screen performance:
3.4.0-030400
Currently using the latest official: 3.2.0.26
I also tried 3.5.0-5. No major culprits but I can't say if it doesn't affect
the bug scope, so disregard it, please.
c) I was running a custom Compiz configuration (done via CCSM) at the moment of
submitting data through apport. See the attached screenshot. That said I did
not alter Compiz configuration prior to receiving the fix (see point a))

apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected running-unity staging

** Description changed:

Dash show/hide animations are very slow. It gets worse with Dash set to
open as maximized. Then it takes almost a full second to appear and
slightly less to hide. The current background does not affect this
behavior. It can be a solid color wallpaper or a web page. Same. I don't
know whether it's relevant but the blurred image is translated ~4 mm
down in relation to original image I see on my display.

  Thinkpad T500
Intel 4500M HD graphics (selected as the only graphics)
  Ubuntu 12.04 amd64 / Ubuntu 12.04 Beta 2 amd64 , clean

I have also noticed that the login screen works terribly laggy as well.

[Bug 990002] WifiSyslog.txt

2012-08-03 Thread Bucic
apport information

** Attachment added: WifiSyslog.txt

https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/990002/+attachment/3247115/+files/WifiSyslog.txt

I guess those guys aim to beat kernel power regression absurdity when it
comes to the ammount of time a fix is actually pushed through updates...

[Bug 990002] Re: Slow Dash animation

2012-05-17 Thread Bucic
Indeed, much improved. But still crap. This is ridiculous! Whoever came
up with this dynamic blur should find another profession perhaps. Or why
don't he enlighten us, why would I need to see a blurred website as a
background to dash filled with objects. Or a YouTube video playing there
(sic!).

[Bug 990002] [NEW] Slow Dash animation

2012-04-27 Thread Bucic
Public bug reported:

** Affects: linux (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: Incomplete
