[Bug 2065780] Re: mouse cursor turns into big white square on pwr resume
The problem occurs after the Video output to the monitor is switched off (the LCD monitor said it was powering off) following the gradual fade out of the login screen. i.e. I guess this is when the video card is put into deep sleep or power saving mode? The photo attached was taken after I pressed the docking station power on button to wake the laptop up (wagging the mouse did nothing, so I assume the laptop had gone into a deep sleep state or whatever Ubuntu does when the laptop isn't used for a long time. So it looks like whenever the mouse cursor pointer is stored, that location loses its memory when the laptop sleeps, and then when it wakes up, you end up with a big white square instead of the mouse pointer image. ** Attachment added: "Photo of laptop deep sleep square mouse cursor on waking." https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/2065780/+attachment/5784969/+files/AfterFadeAndVideoOff.jpg -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2065780 Title: mouse cursor turns into big white square on pwr resume To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/2065780/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 2064910] Re: Nautilus redisplays unmount icon for SD card after unmounting it
This is reflecting a deeper problem - An SD Card is acting differently to a USB memory stick. From the users point of view (and file manager) both are block storage devices and should be acting exactly the same. With a USB stick I see a mount point in /media/main with a disk label I gave it (FLASH-1GB). In file manager the USB Stick is listed with the same disk label - this is good. Whereas for an SD card there is a mount listed in /mnt, but with an automatically generated partition name mmc-SD128_0xda10bde9-part1 but in file manager however it is listed with the file system label I gave it SD128-HOME. Not only confusing but means more code required in file manager to support such a difference. I think the issue is not that snap is trying to do something that is causing an error but more that the file manager can't cope with block devices that aren't working in a consistent manner. If the SD card worked exactly the same as per a USB stick this would overall vastly simplify future system maintenance; less code in file manager, easier to test, and easier to incorporate new block devices. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2064910 Title: Nautilus redisplays unmount icon for SD card after unmounting it To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/snapd/+bug/2064910/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 2064910] Re: Nautilus redisplays unmount icon for SD card after unmounting it
Hi, Again kind of new to recent Linux, so I'm not aware of using snap, but I think some stuff I have installed does (I've got Qt Creator, Visual Code, LibreOffice on the system). The SD card is ext4 format. Even though File manager shows the files\folders of the SD card I never see a mount point in /media for it, unlike as you do for USB sticks. From my point of view a SD card should act exactly like a USB stick does from a file manager perspective - which this isn't doing. Why isn't there a clear separation between all block devices and the rest of the OS, so that the Ubuntu front end can always act consistently regardless of the device, and so that all block devices are always developed and delivered against a consistent interface spec. It would make life a lot easier. I'll read up on snapd in the meantime.

[Bug 2064910] [NEW] Nautilus redisplays unmount icon for SD card after unmounting it
Public bug reported: Dell M6700 with plugged in following items - SD card, Android phone, external USB stick. User name "main". File manager lists SD card and Android devices available both with unmount icons alongside. Click on USB Stick, it mounts, right-hand pane shows files. ls /media/main shows mount point. Click on unmount for USB stick - /media/main mount point vanishes, file list on right-hand pane shows home folder, USB Stick device (and its unmount icon) vanishes. All correct so far. Doing the same for Android phone - as above but I never see a /media/main mount point. The android device stays listed, with no unmount icon - all correct so far (I'm not sure why there is never a /media/main mount point for the phone. Click on SD card, it mounts, right-hand pane shows files. again no mount point is shown in /media/main. click on unmount for SD card - card unmounts, file list on right-hand pane shows home folder BUT then the SD device gets instantly relisted with an unmount icon alongside. Clicking on the re-displayed SD card unmount icon the message "Unable to eject.. " appears - technically this is error message is correct (because the SD card is not mounted) but as its listed as a device on screen this message is going to happen. Physically ejecting the SD card makes the device lost\found beeps and makes the device appear\vanish in file manager - this is correct. in summary - with an SD card left in the laptop, clicking unmount works but the SD card gets instantly recognised as a available device again and is relisted in file manager (without the lost/found beeps). /media/main never seems to show any mount points for the Android phone or the SD card (note I can get an SD card mount point in /media/main if i mount it myself using terminal commands). ** Affects: nautilus (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2064910 Title: Nautilus redisplays unmount icon for SD card after unmounting it To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nautilus/+bug/2064910/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 2064510] Re: File manager hang up
Hi, Sorry, although a technical expert my specific Linux knowledge is pretty rusty as I've only just moved to using it full time on a desktop from Windows 11. Once that error message appeared on screen I couldn't get rid of it, nor the filemanager window that caused it. The launcher in the bottom right corner of the screen worked and so did the bottom left filemanager icon because I launched a 2nd new filemanager window but that too was non functional immediately and unable to close as well. At that point I had to crash power down the laptop as there wasn't much else I could do as even the power off option in the top right corner of the screen didn't power off the system. I could physically feel both USB hard drives heads were flapping away but that may have been normal idle operation, or it may have been the rsync still trying to copy files across (but since filemanager was stuffed I wasn't sure if it was causing file system problems or not (hence the decision to crash power down anyway). I don't know what journalctl is so i'll do a bit of reading up on that next. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2064510 Title: File manager hang up To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nautilus/+bug/2064510/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 2064510] [NEW] File manager hang up
Public bug reported: I was doing a large backup of files from an SSD drive to a external USB drive using rsync running in a terminal window. I then opened up a new file manager window and then (i think) I clicked on the same SSD drive (that was being copied) to get its properties (I wanted to see how much disk space was used up). I then got a dialog popup on the screen (I have a screenshot of this attached) saying the following "There was an error while getting the sharing information" Failed to execute child process "net" (No such file or directory) At this point all the file manager windows were unresponsive. They could not be closed, but I think they could be moved and they could come to foreground etc. In the end I had to crash power off my laptop. I took me 4 hours to chkdsk\recover file systems on both my external USB hard drives and the SSD as well (done using Win10 because they were all NTFS drives). Also as an aside (this is probably another bug)... every so often a file manager window will freeze on its righthand side. You can click on various drives on the lefthand side but it never updates the righthand side to show the file\folders on that clicked drive. I end up closing the filemanager window and opening up a new one. ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Attachment added: "crash.png" https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2064510/+attachment/5773669/+files/crash.png -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2064510 Title: File manager hang up To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/2064510/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
