[Bug 1438754] Re: Backlight cannot be adjusted at lock screen

2015-06-04 Thread Charles Baylis
I went back to the stock trusty (3.13) kernel, and it works again. It
seems that it doesn't work if I apt-get install linux-generic-lts-utopic

[Bug 1412913] Re: gnome-keyring no longer functions as ssh-agent

2015-03-16 Thread Charles Baylis
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1387303 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1387303

This does not appear to be a duplicate of #1387303. That bug is gnome-keyring
components can't be disabled, where as this one is gnome-keyring doesn't
work.

In any case, gnome-keyring 3.10.1-1ubuntu4.2 does not fix this issue, so
this bug should be re-opened.

[Bug 1387303] Re: regression: gnome-keyring components can't be disabled anymore

2015-03-16 Thread Charles Baylis
I can confirm that the GNOME Keyring SSH Agent entry is ticked in the
startup applications window. A little more experimentation has provided
more insight.

Starting with gnome-keyring 3.10.1-1ubuntu4.1, and continuing into
3.10.1-1ubuntu4.2, the ssh-agent only affects some processes started
within a user session. The last working version was gnome-keyring
3.10.1-1ubuntu4

To demonstrate:
press Windows key, type xtermenter. In the new terminal window type 'echo
$SSH_AUTH_SOCK'. Result, as expected, is something like
/run/user/1000/keyring-mm1fAl/ssh

Now, press Alt-F2, type xtermenter. n the new terminal window type
'echo $SSH_AUTH_SOCK'. This results in an empty line - when started in
this manner the terminal does not have access to the SSH agent.

I expect processes to have the SSH_AUTH_SOCK variable defined regardless
of the method used to start them

[Bug 1412916] Re: evince: Bad PDF rendering: invalid font scale

2015-01-21 Thread Charles Baylis
I would like this bug to be considered for a Stable Release Update to
14.04 (and 14.10 if applicable)

[Impact]

 * Many PDFs do not display correctly, including the boarding passes
from a major European airline

 * Printing a boarding pass is a common simple task which users expect
to work, and therefore should be fixed in the stable release.

 * see upstream bug report for discussion about the mechanism of the
fix.

[Test Case]

 * attempt to view the test case in the linked upstream bug using
'evince attachment.pdf'

 * observe corrupted text displayed

[Regression Potential]

 * theoretically, other PDFs which currently display correctly could be
displayed incorrectly after this change, but is intended to emulate
acroread, so this is unlikely.

 * patch has been reviewed and committed upstream, so should be safe

[Other Info]

 * none

[Bug 1412916] [NEW] evince: Bad PDF rendering: invalid font scale

2015-01-20 Thread Charles Baylis
Public bug reported:

Evince in ubuntu 14.04 (3.10.3-0ubuntu10.1) suffers from this bug:
https://www.libreoffice.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=78042

The test case which is attached to the upstream bug demonstrates the
problem with Evince in Ubuntu.

Hopefully, the patch attached to the upstream bug report would fix the
problem in ubuntu.

[Bug 1412913] [NEW] gnome-keyring no longer functions as ssh-agent

2015-01-20 Thread Charles Baylis
Public bug reported:

Since https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-
keyring/+bug/1271591 was 'fixed', gnome-keyring no longer provides ssh-
agent services

Observed behaviour:
ssh $host no longer opens up dialog window requesting the ssh key passphrase

Test:
$ echo $SSH_AUTH_SOCK

Result with gnome-keyring 3.10.1-1ubuntu4.1
no output

Result with gnome-keyring 3.10.1-1ubuntu4
/run/user/1000/keyring-w5uhoK/ssh

Downgrading the package works to gnome-keyring 3.10.1-1ubuntu4 restores the
desired behaviour.

(reg/f:SI 26 afp)) --- r1 changed to afp here
]) reference/reduced.cpp:6 373 {*stm2_ia}
 (nil))

This gets re-written later:
-- reduced.cpp.190r.ira from gcc trunk r172837
(insn 24 29 28 2 (parallel [
(set (mem/s:SI (reg/f:SI 4 r4 [141]) [5 MEM[(struct A *)0B]+0 S4 A32
])

(set (mem/s:SI (plus:SI (reg/f:SI 4 r4 [141])
(const_int 4 [0x4])) [5 MEM[(struct A *)0B]+4 S4 A32])
(plus:SI (reg/f:SI 13 sp)   ---\__ was aftp
(const_int 1048 [0x418])))  ---/
]) reference/reduced.cpp:6 373 {*stm2_ia}
 (nil))

The (plus:SI (reg/f:SI 13 sp) (const_int 1048 [0x418])) is the invalid operand
which causes the ICE during final.

[Bug 1229639] [NEW] pterm scrollbar does not appear

2013-09-24 Thread Charles Baylis
Public bug reported:

If pterm is started with the -sb option, the documented behaviour is that a
scroll bar will appear. However, on Ubuntu, no scroll bar is present.

 1) The release of Ubuntu you are using, via 'lsb_release -rd' or System -
About Ubuntu
$ lsb_release -rd
Description:Ubuntu 13.04

 2) The version of the package you are using, via 'apt-cache policy pkgname' or

$ apt-cache policy pterm

 3) What you expected to happen
pterm window appears with scrollbar present

 4) What happened instead
pterm window appears with no scrollbar present

Using the pterm binary from Fedora also results in the same behaviour on
ubuntu, while it works fine on Fedora. Perhaps pterm needs to be changed
to exempt itself from the overlay-scrollbars behaviour?
