I can't say that I am still experiencing this problem because I upgraded a
long time ago to the latest. Thanks for checking in though!

[Bug 376099] Re: xserver crash on closing a window

2009-05-27 Thread Chris Lee
I have a similar problem. I can often cause a crash of my NVidia X
server when ending an ediff session with emacs (emacs22-gtk, version
emacs-22.2-ubuntu2).

To recreate: Open emacs, open two files in separate buffers, type M-x
ediff-buffers, browse changes, then type 'q' to quit the ediff session.

I'm running nvidia-glx-180 (version 180.44-0ubuntu1).

[Bug 297652] [NEW] synergy server disables mouse interaction on host

2008-11-13 Thread Chris Lee
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: synergy

Synergy worked for me beautifully in Hoary, but after upgrading to
Intrepid, it has a serious problem. If synergy server is running on my
intrepid machine, and I move my mouse off the desktop to the next
machine (a windows box running synergy client) and then I move my mouse
back to the intrepid desktop, mouse clicks no longer work on the local
intrepid X server. I can move the mouse pointer around, but clicking
the buttons do not do anything. I can use alt-tab to switch between
windows and still use the keyboard to do things. To regain use of the
mouse, I have to log out (using alt-f1 and keyboard), and then log in
again.

In case it matters, I've been running Compiz and Xinerama on the synergy
host (Intrepid machine) and an Nvidia closed-source server. This was
also the case when I ran synergy successfully in Hoary.

The mouse works properly on the synergy client machine.

[Bug 194798] [NEW] parallels no longer works after upgrade

2008-03-07 Thread Chris Lee
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: parallels

Ubuntu 7.10, parallels 2.2.2224-1gutsy1.

I just upgraded my gusty version of parallels to 2.2.2224-1gutsy1, but
now parallels no longer works.

When I try to power on my VM, I get

Error occurred while trying to interact with Paralells driver!
Parallels Workstation is either not installed and/or configured or
has integrity problems, which prevent it from operating properly.
 Please reinstall the Parallels Workstation.

I manually ran sudo parallels-config, then did an apt-get install
--reinstall to try again. Same problem occurred.

Before the upgrade, parallels ran (although after a couple minutes it
crashes the host OS :-( ).

[Bug 176106] evolution does not start (gutsy)

2007-12-13 Thread Chris Lee
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

As of this morning, evolution will no longer start for me. These are
the messages that are printed before it just stops:

  [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ evolution
  CalDAV Eplugin starting up ...
evolution-shell-Message: Killing old version of evolution-data-server...

These are printed even when I kill evolution-data-server before starting
evolution.

I've taken the available updates yesterday morning and this morning
(cairo, findutils, deskbar applets). I've also also (re-)installed
gossip. The other possible change in the last couple of days is that
I've accessed my mail with a new program (Modest) on my Nokia n800.

[Bug 176106] Re: evolution does not start (gutsy)

2007-12-13 Thread Chris Lee
Actually, I have found that the problem has probably to do with
evolution-data-server and not evolution itself. If I click on the
'Clock' applet on my gnome-panel, the entire panel hangs until I
'killall gnome-panel'.

So evolution is probably hanging also when it tries to talk to EDS. Do
you still suggest the same steps for debugging?

[Bug 162853] Re: evolution email address autocomplete is broken after compose window is moved

2007-12-07 Thread Chris Lee
I was about to write in and say that I hadn't seen this bug for a while
anyway. I tried to re-create it a couple of times and failed. Then,
for some reason, I remembered that I have switched to using desktop
effects. For a lark, I turned off desktop effects and tried again, and
I experienced the bug again. Also, I am running Xinerama on NVidia.
I'm not sure whether that has anything to do with it, but it might
because desktop effects fixed it for me.

[Bug 162853] evolution email address autocomplete is broken after compose window is moved

2007-11-15 Thread Chris Lee
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

Gutsy, evolution2.12.0-0ubuntu5. In the compose window, autocompletion
of email addresses in the to: entry field stops working properly after
the compose window is moved. If I enter the email address before moving
the window, it works properly.

To reproduce (hopefully) :

Select 'New' email. Move new compose window with mouse. Start to enter
an email address that is ambiguous in first 2-3 characters.

Behavior seen:

After the first couple of characters, autocomplete selects one of the
matching addresses immediately, not allowing user to select from
potential matches.

[Bug 144750] gutsy: nvidia-new -- nvidia-settings no longer works

2007-09-25 Thread Chris Lee
Public bug reported:

After gutsy yesterday morning, my laptop now only uses its own screen
and will not use the screen from my docking station. I tried fixing
this with nvidia-settings, but this program claims I am not using the
nvidia driver. I used nvidia-xconfig to generate my xorg.conf and tried
again, but without success.

WIth gutsy up-to-date as of last Friday, everything was working
properly.

I tried fixing with the System-Administration-Screens and Graphics,
but it offers choices of inappropriate resolutions for my monitor.

The device manager says I have a G72GL [Quadro FX 350M].

The nvidia kernel module is loaded and the 'nvidia' X driver is being
used.

Oh -- I figured it out.

I went to 'System-Preferences-Preferred Applications-System'

and saw that my 'Terminal emulator' was 'Custom' with no command.

I switched to 'gnome-terminal', and all was OK.

So I guess there was maybe some change in gconf usage, probably gnome-
wide (not related to gnome-panel) that caused my terminal emulator
setting to get lost or something on upgrade. I have never explicitly
changed this -- I've always used the default emulator on this system,
which has always been gnome-terminal.

[Bug 65509] Re: deskbar-applet -- file:/// urls opened in firefox instead of gnome-default-browser

2006-10-20 Thread Chris Lee
I realized why this happens now. When the html file is local, the local
mime properties determines which application opens the file. So if
select an .html file in nautilus, select preferences-Open_with, then
select epiphany, then fie:/// urls are then opened by epiphany.

This make sense -- it seems deskbar is doing the right thing using mime
to select the application to open for a local file. Maybe setting a
particular browser as the 'prefered application' should update the mime
entry for html files?

[Bug 65509] Re: deskbar-applet -- file:/// urls opened in firefox instead of gnome-default-browser

2006-10-13 Thread Chris Lee
I set it as default for my account (not for the entire machine) using
System-Preferences-Preferred_Applications. This causes http:// urls
to be openned by epiphany, but seems not to work for file:///. I don't
think I should be using 'sudo update-alternatives' for this -- it is an
account-wide preference(!).

[Bug 65509] deskbar-applet -- file:/// urls opened in firefox instead of gnome-default-browser

2006-10-11 Thread Chris Lee
Public bug reported:

When open some bookmarks using deskbar-applet, they open in firefox
rather than epiphany (my gnome-default browser). I think it is just the
ones with a url that start with file:///

[Bug 62452] Re: ipw3945 not working (Edgy 2.6.17-9-generic #2 SMP)

2006-10-01 Thread Chris Lee
Roland,

Your suggestion solved the problem for me! I had thought that I had
these modules installed (in my attempt to get my ATI card running), but
I really had not. I'm running wireless in Edgy now!

[Bug 62452] Re: ipw3945 not working (Edgy 2.6.17-9-generic #2 SMP)

2006-09-26 Thread Chris Lee
Normally, the wireless card should use dhcp (in Dapper, I use network-
manager). But on the Edgy partition, I haven't set this up because eth1
is not present. I tried adding a eth1 stanza in /etc/network/interfaces
and doing ifup eth1, but this doesn't work because no eth1 is present.

How is your Ubuntu machine hooked up to its network?

Hi Simon,

In case this info is useful: the wireless card fails both with and
without a wired connection on eth0 (the wired connection is made via
DCHP).
