[Bug 390508] Re: notify-send ignores the expire timeout parameter

2011-03-28 Thread ChrisSavery
+1 for fixing this to respect timeouts.
After reading through these comments I can't believe Ubuntu devs are being so
stubborn.
I always believed in Linux and being able to configure things and here I am
being blocked.
This sucks. Better to take this out of Ubuntu then force us to live with it.
Thank you for the Leolik PPA - I'll be using that.
And hoping the devs get their sights re-aligned someday.

[Bug 588828] Re: please upgrade to gawk-3.1.8

2011-03-27 Thread ChrisSavery
Yes. Please upgrade to 3.1.8
Upstream reports that a bug the prevents printf from handling %.5s from
correctly truncating in most locales was fixed in 3.1.8. and this is making it
currently unusable for my code.

[Bug 654272] Re: Gnibbles cannot start new game. game score is initialized but the game splash (worm with green background) does not disappear

2011-03-10 Thread ChrisSavery
Same problem here on Ubuntu 10.10.
Have never got anything other splash screen when trying Nibbles.
Other Gnome games work well though.

[Bug 355081] Re: wallpaper-tray always displays pictures from /usr/share/backgrounds

2010-06-22 Thread ChrisSavery
I have this problem as well and I think it's damn silly to allow
selecting directories and then force users to have to also use the
default one.

I don't know why this would be marked as low priority. It would seem to
be an easy fix and so many users have complained about it. Is there a
feeling that we darn well have to use the default backgrounds and so
therefore this isn't a bug? I don't get it.

Why can't it just be fixed by adding the default directory into the list
as with other directories so that the users can remove it if they wish
or leave it if they wish.

[Bug 501715] Re: Kernel trace buffer should be cleared and size restored after profiling

2010-05-09 Thread ChrisSavery
Thanks lavinog for that info.

This immediately cleared up about 250MB of lost memory for me. Usually
my server uses about 60MB but now and then after a reboot it will use
315MB and I can't find where it's gone. Dropping caches didn't help.

This bug doesn't appear to be taken seriously. Perhaps it needs to be filed in
a better place where the right devs will see it?

I can confirm that this bug is present on my newly created Lucid 10.4 server
install and that the above echo command will fix it.

[Bug 400710] Re: DND mode is enabled when it shouldn't be.

2010-01-11 Thread ChrisSavery
I get this all the time on all archives I've used for months.
It's extremely annoying and for me makes File Roller almost unusable.
Does anyone know a replacement for file roller?

It completely buggers up trying to do anything.
Even exiting the program or clicking any menu item gets sticky and you have to
click extra times to release the icon from the mouse. You can't click another
file until you click on the menu somewhere to release the DND icon.

I can't believe this is low priority - for months I've been struggling with
this.
I guess others don't get this but I can say for me it ALWAYS happens and makes
the program useless.

If you want more details of my OS etc. just ask.
It's been doing the same for as long as I an recall. This means at least back
to 9.04, currently 9.10.
My File Roller is 2.28.1.

[Bug 194472] Re: Entering password in Terminal gives no visual feedback

2010-01-04 Thread ChrisSavery
Why don't admins with this problem just add a message to the MOTD.
I don't think it's good idea to change sudo at all.
Kind of makes Ubuntu users look like morons.
