[Bug 1488254] Re: clang++ no longer ABI-compatible with g++
Hi guys, Anyone know when we might see this fix make it into Ubuntu 16.04's official repos? I'm doing some app development that's hindered by this bug. (If there's a better forum for this question, I'd be grateful for a redirect.) Re: [Bug 1059655] Re: 1002:94a3 fglrx doesn't support ATI FirePro M7740 chip
After purging the old PPA, and setting up Nick Andrick's PPA, I tried installing the fglrx-installer package. However, no such package was available. So I guessed and installed the fglrx package. The installation went smoothly, but upon rebooting my system, I don't think Nick's package's driver is in effect. I have no AMD Unsupported hardware watermark on my screen, and the output from running glxinfo suggests I have no OpenGL functionality. Next, I uninstalled the fglrx package, and installed fglrx-updates, version 2:9.010-0ubuntu1~andrik5. Upon rebooting, I had the same experience as I got with the fglrx package, as described above. I don't presently have Precise installed, but I'm near 100% that the installer did NOT work under Precise. When I used the official Ubuntu GUI for closed-source drivers, I would be told the installation failed, although no reason was given to me. When I used the AMD-provided installer scripts, IIRC the later versions of those scripts installed, but then when I ran aticonfig --initial I was told that no supported cards were detected. In fact, I'm currently running the driver provided by the fglrx-legacy package in someone's PPA, and while accelerated video is working (glxinfo produces copious, happy output), I have the AMD Unsupported hardware watermark in the bottom-left corner of my screen. Not sure. I'm not that well versed on the intricacies of the X server and/or the linux kernel. [Bug 1058040] Re: fglrx-installer does not support HD2000-4000 legacy cards
I'm going to add a comment to help people Googling this issue. The ATI Mobility M7740 chip, which was one option for the Dell M6500 Mobile Precision laptop, is apparently considered a 4000-series chip, and so is a victim of this AMD policy. One of the supposed justifications for over-priced workstation-class graphics chips was top-notch vendor support. By so cutting short its support of this chip, AMD has demonstrated that they can't be trusted to support workstation-level users. Unless something radically changes, I can't see buy AMD for my Linux laptops / desktops anymore. [Bug 1054992] [NEW] fglrx package has unmet dependency
Public bug reported: First, let me note that the fglrx-installer package doesn't appear in the repositories (default) that I'm using, so I assume that I'm supposed to just install the fglrx package directly. When I try to install the closed-source AMD driver for my laptop graphics chip (AMD FirePro M7740), I get the following: cjc@awesome:~$ sudo aptitude install fglrx The following NEW packages will be installed: fglrx{b} The following packages are RECOMMENDED but will NOT be installed: fglrx-amdcccle 0 packages upgraded, 1 newly installed, 0 to remove and 0 not upgraded. Need to get 66.0 MB of archives. After unpacking 207 MB will be used. The following packages have unmet dependencies: fglrx : Depends: xorg-video-abi-11 which is a virtual package. The following actions will resolve these dependencies: Keep the following packages at their current version: 1) fglrx [Not Installed] Accept this solution? [Bug 581961] [NEW] Regression: no Intel 5300 AGN on 2.6.32-22 kernel
Public bug reported: I'm using 10.04 64-bit on a laptop with an Intel 5300 AGN wifi adapter. If I boot into the following kernel, I have Wifi (at least usually); Linux awesome 2.6.32-21-generic #32-Ubuntu SMP Fri Apr 16 08:09:38 UTC 2010 x86_64 GNU/Linux However, if I boot into the most recent kernel (2.6.32-22), I get no wifi at all. The wifi light above my keyboard doesn't light, and the Network Manager Applet shows no wifi adapter being present. Note: the attached files are from when I booted into a 2.6.32-21 kernel, not the problematic 2.6.32-22 kernel. Fwiw, I've uploaded the final 6.12.0 today. I re-tested this on an hd4850 but did not find the whitescreen issue gone. Can you two please update to today's latest (with -ati 6.12.0) and verify the white issue is still gone? If it has regressed please re- open this bug so I can explore further. I've just updated, and the issue remains fixed for me. I also have a new -fglrx 8.60 which I've tested on the same card, and found it works great. [Bug 314897] Re: White screen of death - no escape
Okay, I tried to reproduce the bug more carefully, so I can give a better report. Here are the details: I downloaded the 9.04 (alpha3) AMD64 live desktop CD. I booted from it, using it as a live CD. I ended up with a plain white screen. Hitting ctrl-alt-backspace had no visible effect. When I tried to switch to a virtual terminal using ctrl-F1, ctrl-F2, etc., the screen when from all white to all black, and my monitor (the actual monitor) overlaid a message indicating that it's in 1920x1200 resolution. This is the only time I've ever seen my monitor bother to tell me that, and I don't know why it was doing it this time. Hitting ctrl-F7 brings me back to the all-white screen. I cannot give you and xorg.conf or xorg.0.log files, because this is a Live environment, which leaves no history on the hard drive and cannot be SSH'ed into. -- White screen of death - no escape https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/314897 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I made a little progress. I downloaded ATI's proprietary driver (version 8.561), and installed it from single-user mode. When I next booted, X didn't show me the white screen, but instead showed me a dialog box (grey on a black background) stating that there were problems with starting X, and it gave me several options. I think they included reconfiguring X, starting in low-graphics mode, and one other. Anyway, I believe I started in low-graphics mode, just so I could log into my deskop. Then I went to the restricted drivers gui. It showed me a proprietary ATI driver being available, so I selected that. I was hoping that it would give me better luck than my manual installation of an ATI driver, mentioned at the beginning of this comment. Sadly, when I rebooted, I got the same experience: the X dialog giving me a few options of how to deal with its inability to start. -- White screen of death - no escape https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/314897 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 292446] [NEW] Pages clipped on HP OfficeJet Pro L7680 for KDE apps
Public bug reported: I'm using Ubuntu 8.10. My printer is an HP OfficeJet Pro L7680. I did a clean install of Ubuntu, and added the printer via System - Administration - Printing. I used the recommended driver: HP Officejet Pro l7600 Foomatic/hpijs, hpijs 2.8.7 When I printed the test page from the printer's Printer Properties dialog, the page looked perfect. When I print out a text file from gedit, the output looks perfect. When I print a web page from Firefox, the output looks perfect. But the two KDE apps I tried to print with: Kate (for a text file) and Konqueror, both produced printed pages with the top bit of text clipped off. It's as though KDE apps somehow end up with the wrong top margin on the printer. I tried correcting this problem for Kate. When I printed a text file, in Kate's Print dialog box I clicked on the Properties button next to the printer name. There I increased the top page margin from 0.12 inches to (arbitrarily) 0.42 inches. That resulted a good-looking printout. ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Pages clipped on HP OfficeJet Pro L7680 for KDE apps https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/292446 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I just ran into this also, but I think I know the problem (mostly): When you first try to share a folder, it offers to install SAMBA. [Bug 112391] Re: some apps print in landscape, and badly
This may be the same bug as: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-print/+bug/95208 but it's hard to tell because this present bug report talks about more apps than 95208 does. It also seems similar to this bug: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/kdegraphics/+bug/47649 but 47649 only talks about PDF files having this problem, whereas I'm having it even with non PDF files: web pages printed by Firefox. -- some apps print in landscape, and badly https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/112391 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

OK, my ASCII art doesn't look good as HTML. so I'm attaching a photograph of a page that Firefox (mis)printed. ** Attachment added: Example of misprinted page http://librarian.launchpad.net/7555757/1.jpg -- some apps print in landscape, and badly https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/112391 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 112391] Re: some apps print in landscape, and badly
Here's a concrete example: This document: http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Kalman_filterprintable=yes prints perfectly using konqueror, but has the orientation+cropping problem when printed in firefox. [Bug 106913] Re: cedega 6 crashes feisty desktop
Or to put it differently: There's a bug in xorg and/or the nvidia driver and/or the kernel and/or gnome, because a user-mode program was able to take down the whole desktop. How can it matter that we don't have the source to the program that demonstrates the existence of the bug? Sticking our heads in the sand doesn't make this bug in xorg et al be any less of a bug. -- cedega 6 crashes feisty desktop https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/106913 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 107123] Need to manually ifup eth0 in feisty
Public bug reported: When I boot my feisty computer, the network doesn't appear to be initially up. This is evident because (a) the NetworkManager Applet shows no network connection and (b) programs like firefox / apt-get can't access the Internet. All I need to do after booting is either of the following: - In the NM applet, click on Wired Network, or - run sudo ifdown eth0 sudo ifup eth0 I had no network problems under Edgy (that I recall), but I did do a clean re-install to get Feisty. ** Affects: Ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: Unconfirmed -- Need to manually ifup eth0 in feisty https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/107123 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 106913] cedega 6 crashes feisty desktop
Public bug reported: I'm running an up-to-date install of Feisty. I'm using the nVidia restricted driver as installed by the Restricted Drivers Manager tool. I downloaded and installed cedega-small_6.0_all.deb from TransGaming's web site. When I then run cedega from the command-line, my whole desktop freezes, then disappears, and then I'm brought back to the GDM login screen. This happens every time I run cedega. ** Affects: Ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: Unconfirmed -- cedega 6 crashes feisty desktop https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/106913 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Fixed!!! It seems to be fixed with one of today's updates, because I re-confirmed the bug a day or two after updating.
