I'll add that since updating from 18.04 to 20.04, Pidgin has been doing this very consistently. I'm not sure exactly what has changed, but a new kernel did install today and suspend/resume is working much better. `systemctl suspend` is working as expected. However, closing the laptop lid is not quite working yet. When I close the lid, the power stays on, but when I open the lid, it suspends. [Bug 1861006] [NEW] After upgrade to 20.04, notifications not working as expected
Public bug reported: I'm observing the following behavior after upgrading to 20.04. 1. I don't get any notifications in the Gnome notification area if my name is highlighted in chat. 2. I also don't get notifications in private messages when someone says something to me. 3. I also get a weird "#some_channel is ready" (where #some_channel is the name of a particular chat tab) notification after some time. If I then focus the Pidgin window, nothing new is in the particular tab that prompted the notification. Note that all of these behaviors were not observed in 18.04, my previous version of Ubuntu. [Bug 1675364] Re: [regression] GTK and KDE apps fail to start under Unity8 (without gnome-session running)
Ok, I've traced this down to bug #1675448 being the root of the issue. Xmir is started no matter what and if an application natively supports Mir such as a Gtk or Qt app, then there are multiple connections to Mir, which is what the aforementioned bug is about. So a decision needs to be made. Either bug #1675448 needs to be fixed or we need to revert the Gtk probing order back and just use xmir for the time being. The longer term solution of only starting xmir when it is actually needed along with Mir supported toolkits probing for Mir first is the final solution (see bug #1672931). But that won't be done in time for the Zesty release, hence the other options presented above:) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1675364 Title: [regression] GTK and KDE apps fail to start under Unity8 (without gnome-session running) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/canonical-devices-system-image/+bug/1675364/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1672931] Re: [regression] Qt & GTK apps on Unity8 are defaulting to Xmir instead of native GTK/Qt (and so menus don't appear in the titlebar)
This will be solved basically in two parts: 1. Xmir will only launch when it needs to. The DISPLAY env var will be set and some method of detecting when Xmir is needed will be used. There are a couple of ways of starting Xmir on-demand and just picking one that will work both with deb based systems and the future Xmir snap will be key. 2. Any toolkits that support Mir will need to try use Mir first before trying to use X. It was recently discovered that, even though Qt apps are being told to use Mir, if Xmir is available and DISPLAY is set, it will use X which is a bug. Also, Gtk will need to be patched to try to use Mir first. I will work on the libertine/ubuntu-app-launch part of this to make it so Xmir will start only when needed. ** Changed in: libertine/devel Status: Triaged => In Progress ** Changed in: libertine/devel Assignee: (unassigned) => Christopher Townsend (townsend) ** Changed in: ubuntu-app-launch (Ubuntu) Status: Confirmed => In Progress ** Changed in: ubuntu-app-launch (Ubuntu) Assignee: (unassigned) => Christopher Townsend (townsend) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1672931 Title: [regression] Qt & GTK apps on Unity8 are defaulting to Xmir instead of native GTK/Qt (and so menus don't appear in the titlebar) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/canonical-devices-system-image/+bug/1672931/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1666472] Re: pasted crashed with SIGABRT in qt_message_fatal()
After further analysis, it appears xmir is failing to start, yet pasted is getting started and fails to find the x server and crashes. An interim solution is to check first if the x server, ie, xmir is running before trying to open the DISPLAY in pasted and if it's not, fail gracefully instead of crashing. The longer term solution is the luancher should check that Xmir starts successfully before moving on and launching pasted and the intended application. ** Also affects: libertine Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Also affects: libertine/devel Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Also affects: libertine/trunk Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Changed in: libertine/devel Status: New => In Progress ** Changed in: libertine/trunk Status: New => Triaged ** Changed in: libertine/devel Importance: Undecided => Medium ** Changed in: libertine/trunk Importance: Undecided => Medium ** Changed in: libertine/devel Assignee: (unassigned) => Christopher Townsend (townsend) ** Changed in: libertine/devel Milestone: None => 1.8 ** Changed in: libertine/trunk Milestone: None => 1.8 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1666472 Title: pasted crashed with SIGABRT in qt_message_fatal() To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/libertine/+bug/1666472/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1671610] [NEW] Dbus method isSurfaceFocused says surface is not focused after an app launches
Public bug reported: I have run into a situation that after launching an app and waiting for the app/surface to be finished starting and can visibly see that the surface is focused, that isSurfaceFocused still returns false for the given Mir persistent surface id. If I click outside of the app and then back in, isSurfaceFocused returns true for the very same Mir persistent surface id. For example, here the gdbus output for a valid persistent surface id on the app that is in focus: $ gdbus call --session --dest com.canonical.Unity.FocusInfo --object-path /com/canonical/Unity/FocusInfo --method com.canonical.Unity.FocusInfo.isSurfaceFocused "780fc686-52e7-43e6-a74f-01c44a0882b7" (false,) ** Affects: qtmir Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Affects: qtmir (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Also affects: qtmir Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Description changed: I have run into a situation that after launching an app and waiting for the app/surface to be finished starting and can visibly see that the surface is focused, that isSurfaceFocused still returns false for the given Mir persistent surface id.
