Thanks for your comments, but I disagree about that, because when update-manager starts download selected packages the Launcher icon shows a progress bar for selected packages, not for all available packages, but the number on it remain the same. Public bug reported: Binary package hint: network-manager I'm using a Huawei E169 USB dongle to connect to a GSM mobile broadband network. When I attempt to connect to the network it doesn't work but, if I reboot and unlock the USB dongle using another distribution (Ubuntu 10.10 for me) when i restart Natty connection works fine.
