[Bug 1826793] Re: Firefox Apparmor profile prevents connection with KeePassXC

2019-05-08 Thread Colan Schwartz
Thanks. Does anyone know if there's an upstream (Debian) bug report for
this? If not, should one be created? Or is this simply a downstream
(Ubuntu) thing?

[Bug 1826793] [NEW] Firefox Apparmor profile prevents connection with KeePassXC

2019-04-28 Thread Colan Schwartz
Public bug reported:

The KeePassXC password manager (https://keepassxc.org/) allows passwords
to be filled in automatically via the KeePassXC-Browser Firefox add-on
(https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/keepassxc-browser/).

In order for this to work, the add-on must communicate with the password
manager. However, communication is being blocked by Firefox's Apparmor
profile.

If KeePassXC is installed via Apt:

Apr 28 20:25:43 snake kernel: [79057.095759] audit: type=1400
audit(1556497543.512:878): apparmor="DENIED" operation="exec"
profile="/usr/lib/firefox/firefox{,*[^s][^h]}" name="/usr/bin/keepassxc-
proxy" pid=23647 comm=444F4D20576F726B6572 requested_mask="x"
denied_mask="x" fsuid=1000 ouid=0

If KeePassXC is installed via Snap:

Apr 28 20:22:24 snake kernel: [78858.165807] audit: type=1400
audit(1556497344.579:799): apparmor="DENIED" operation="exec"
profile="/usr/lib/firefox/firefox{,*[^s][^h]}" name="/usr/bin/snap"
pid=21695 comm=444F4D20576F726B6572 requested_mask="x" denied_mask="x"
fsuid=1000 ouid=0

Please alter the Apparmor profile to allow for communication with this password
manager with either installation method.

Workaround:

Disable the profile with `sudo aa-disable usr.bin.firefox`.

[Bug 701856] Re: Brother's printer/scanner drivers awkward to find and install

2019-04-01 Thread Colan Schwartz
I gave up on Brother after having to fiddle with the config on every OS
upgrade, and I recommend that everyone else do the same. I tried
opening a support ticket the last time, and they said Linux support is
only available in the forums, which tells me they don't actively support
it any more (if they ever did).

So as suggested in comment #26, I ran out and bought an HP, and never
looked back. I got everything working fairly quickly, and it hasn't
broken since.

They actually work with the open-source community so I'll keep
supporting them. I'm never buying a Brother again.

[Bug 1714804] Re: Aardvark Daily: Indicator-Multiload doesn't show full-width

2017-11-03 Thread Colan Schwartz
Because that application was written for the platform that Ubuntu is now
using (Gnome), and the other one wasn't.

Open-source developers' time is in short supply. It doesn't make sense
to spend time porting non-native applications when native applications
already exist that can do the job.

It's tricky for users (us) to switch applications whenever the platform
changes, but that's the price you pay for not building a GNU/Linux
system yourself. Feel free to build and use one that never changes
subsystems. ;)

Same in 17.10. To workaround, I added a keyboard shortcut ("Gnome
screenshot - interactive", Alt-s) in Settings -> Devices -> Keyboard.
The command is "gnome-screenshot --interactive".

So now at least it asks me where to put the file.

[Bug 1670959] Re: systemd-resolved using 100% CPU

2017-04-19 Thread Colan Schwartz
@clvx: I think the other bug is unrelated, although maybe that's what
you're running into instead of this one.

I was also able to fix this problem by removing dnsmasq:

* sudo apt remove dnsmasq

As soon as I did that, both processes dropped to nothing, and DNS still
resolves.

This is a good workaround, but perhaps the actual fix should be to
remove the package on upgrade to 17.04?

[Bug 1576930] Re: Excessive consumption RAM of mysqld daemon in Ubuntu 16.04

2016-09-14 Thread Colan Schwartz
This should be fixed now with the recent security releases in the stable
channel. We should be at 5.7.15 which is fixed upstream. Can someone
confirm?

[Bug 1623159] [NEW] Keys cannot be refreshed via "gpg2 --refresh-keys"

2016-09-13 Thread Colan Schwartz
Public bug reported:

gpg2 --refresh-keys yields the following:

gpg: keyserver refresh failed: No keyserver available

However, I have everything set up in dirmngr.conf:

keyserver hkp://jirk5u4osbsr34t5.onion
keyserver hkps://hkps.pool.sks-keyservers.net
hkp-cacert /home/colan/.gnupg/sks-keyservers.netCA.pem

...and dirmngr can find it:

colan@snake[Tue 13 14:30]% dirmngr

dirmngr[26401.0]: permanently loaded certificates: 0
dirmngr[26401.0]: runtime cached certificates: 0
# Home: ~/.gnupg
# Config: /home/colan/.gnupg/dirmngr.conf
OK Dirmngr 2.1.11 at your service
keyserver
S KEYSERVER hkps://hkps.pool.sks-keyservers.net
OK

Looks like gpg2 isn't grabbing the correct information from the response
as here's what's happening with debugging turned on:

colan@snake[Tue 13 14:30]% gpg2 --refresh-keys --debug-all

[Bug 1623087] Re: GnuPG can't find /usr/bin/dirmngr

I was able to fix with the following commands:

1. sudo apt remove gnupg
2. sudo apt install --reinstall gnupg2 (possibly not necessary, but doesn't
hurt)
3. sudo apt install dirmngr

[Bug 1623087] Re: GnuPG can't find /usr/bin/dirmngr

2016-09-13 Thread Colan Schwartz
If both gnupgs, 1 & 2, are on the system, it should default to the
binary for 2. If gnupg 1 is all there is, there should be a
warning/error. Also, dirmngr should be a dependency (along with
gnupg2).

[Bug 1623087] [NEW] GnuPG can't find /usr/bin/dirmngr

2016-09-13 Thread Colan Schwartz
Public bug reported:

1. Enigmail -> Key Management.
2. Key server -> Refresh all public keys.
3. One of the following messages is displayed:

Downloading of keys failed
gpg: failed to start the dirmngr '/usr/bin/dirmngr': No such file or directory
gpg: connecting dirmngr at '/home/colan/.gnupg/S.dirmngr' failed: No such file
or directory

Key(s) updated successfully
gpg: failed to start the dirmngr '/usr/bin/dirmngr': No such file or directory
gpg: connecting dirmngr at '/home/colan/.gnupg/S.dirmngr' failed: No such file
or directory

So it either succeeds or fails, but the GPG error is the same.

[Bug 949796] Re: lightning thunderbird extension does not follow system time zone settings

2016-03-29 Thread Colan Schwartz
By design, this doesn't happen automatically. You have to go to
Preferences -> Calendar -> General, and manually set the time zone. I'd
recommend attaching the upstream bug here from
https://bugzilla.mozilla.org if the feature request exists. If not,
create it there and then link here so we can track it.

[Bug 1522422] Re: Update to php 7.0

2016-03-23 Thread Colan Schwartz
There are plans to get Drupal 7 working with PHP 7, but there are still
some issues remaining. With everything that's going on with Drupal 8, I
don't think folks have had a chance to jump into this too deeply just
yet. For more information, see https://www.drupal.org/node/2454439.

I wouldn't focus too much on the Debian packages. In my experience,
they're not used very widely (as stated above) as there are usually
custom changes. So getting Drupal 7 running on PHP 7 (without the
Debian packages) would be the goal here. The packages aren't even
mentioned in the official installation guide,
https://www.drupal.org/documentation/install/download, or on the OS-
specific page: https://www.drupal.org/node/557908.

Having said that, though, I'd be curious to know if the package
maintainers had any insight they could share.

[Bug 1551949] [NEW] Printing to PDF file loses URLs/links

2016-03-01 Thread Colan Schwartz
Public bug reported:

Steps to reproduce:

1. File -> Print...
2. Select "Print to File".
3. Enter the file name.
4. Enter the save-to folder.
5. Leave the output format as-is, or select PDF if it's not the default.
6. Hit the Print button.
7. Open the resulting PDF in any PDF viewer.

Actual results:

The URLs within the document are not actually hyperlinks. They are
simply text, coloured blue and underlined.

Expected results:

Any clickable links on the original e-mail message should be retained
when converting the document to PDF format.

[Bug 501448] Re: On receving an event reply there is no option to update the calendar

Is this actually supposed to work? It's always been like this for me.
Ever since I've started using Lightning, I always see This message
contains an event that this version of Lightning cannot process.

So I just assumed support was never added to accept replies, but I've
never been able to find a feature request for this upstream.

[Bug 1377153] Re: [System76, Inc. Galago UltraPro] suspend/resume failure

2014-11-11 Thread Colan Schwartz
@Jason: I ran fwts. It worked the first 7 times, and then crashed on
the 8th. So that's 12.5%. That seems about right given my experience.
I can never run the full 50 tests though, as whenever it crashes,
everything locks up.

I'm going to upgrade to 14.10, and see if it's any better, but is sounds
like it isn't given the other report.

[Bug 980320] Re: Skype silently crashes on Ubuntu 64bits

2014-02-21 Thread Colan Schwartz
Also confirming #44. I added the solution as a workaround to the issue
header. If there are other solutions that work for folks, please add
those there as well.

** Description changed:

A lot of users are having the following problem, reported to the Skype
forum with no oficial answer from Skype:

Skype keep stops responding randomly afres seconds or minutes, without
  an apparent reason.

It kept silently freezing, with the interface *still appearing to be
working* - but to all my friends I would appear off-line and my instant
messages would not go through - and on trying to quit Skype it would
freeze and I would have to quit with pgrep skype and then kill -s 9.I've
to kill the process to be able to launch it again. I've read a lot of
people with the same problem in the other forum posts (the old forum?).

  more on:

  http://community.skype.com/t5/Linux/Skype-silently-crashes-on-
  Ubuntu/td-p/1162

+ It seems to be affecting everyone I know using a 64bit version of Ubuntu
+ (I'm using 12.04 and Skype package from the partner repository) under
+ different hardware setups.

- It seems to be affecting everyone I know using a 64bit version of Ubuntu (I'm
using 12.04 and Skype package from the partner repository) under different
hardware setups.
+ WORKAROUND #1: Within the application, navigate to Skype » Options »
+ Sound devices. Uncheck Allow Skype to automatically adjust my mixer
+ levels, and hit the Apply button.

[Bug 1065166] Re: Xorg uses 100% CPU for ~7s when maximizing Terminator window

2014-01-07 Thread Colan Schwartz
I switched to non-Nvidia graphics so I no longer have this problem.
Perhaps someone else who is using Nvidia can reopen this.
